JOURNAL: DriftRoot (Lauren C.)

  • LONG LIVE PHOTOSHOP 2009-01-10 18:42:52 I am a big fan of the "effects" which can be created without leaning on the crutch that is canned effects and AE. There are times when a video concept can only be communicated with frame by frame, hands-on "effects" which rely solely on the editors' vision and skill.

Hrmph, very pompous. Amo-chan gets credit for illustrating my point perfectly with the following video she shared with me: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fb50GMmY5nk

Yes yes, I know, scary 'Tube stuff that smacks 87% of the AMVs around here in the face and says "Get over yourselves and put some EFFORT into you videos, you slackers."

@_@ I want to do that to Advent Children. OMG... parody the Thundercats? No, too late for that. But that's the thing: I COULD do it if I wanted to. It's not terribly difficult, that's what's so incredibly empowering about this 'Tube video. It takes a lot of time, you sort of have to know what you're doing...but the bottom line is that it's not prohibitively difficult to do. In fact, it's a lot easier to do than some other things I can think of.

Gives me hope for the future of AMVs. This is an area relatively few editors have gone and the possibilities really are endless.

    LONG LIVE PHOTOSHOP!!
  • The AMV Gods of Aspect Ratios, AviSynth, VirtualDub Mod and possibly of Ripping PS2 FMVs are targeting me. Again. 2009-01-08 22:29:51 Vent
Pre-edit: ??? Definitely up to at least 8 hours by now
    Edit: 4?

So here I am, 12 hours into my AMV, and as usual things are going totally wrong. My Dirge of Cerberus footage is inexplicably playing faster than it should. I don't know why. Even the original files are acting as if they're on fast forward. It's not hideous...but it is noticeable and unnacceptable.

I'm not going crazy, either. I have footage from some experiments I made a long time ago that plays perfectly. It was not slowed down in Premiere. All my new DoC AVI files and the .m2V files they're based on are playing too fast, no matter how I play them. :| It just started too, this was not happening a few days ago.

    >:(

THIS is the sort of thing that keeps me from making AMVs quickly. THIS is why the chances of finishing a video for AB are getting very close to ... really bad.

    Pre-edit: add two hours...sort of
    Edit: Technically 0

Apparently the AMV Gods are gunning for me again. This time they are frustrating my efforts at using a small amount of Dirge of Cerberus footage in a predominantly Advent Children AMV.

Problem: DoC is a 4:3, 640 x 448 source. My math-deficient brain can't figure out how to a) convert it to square pixels while b) upscaling it appropriately to play nice with 848 x 480 AC footage. I do not want to randomly chop 120 pixels off the sides - that could royally mess up a few of my scenes. I need to square it, then upscale it. Without lots of chopping. A little chopping is ok, 16 pixels here or there.

    :(
  • I've got to get out of here. 2009-01-06 20:34:56 blabbler is trying to convince me that storyboarding is The Way To Go. I agree, except I find it difficult to storyboard my AMVs accurately. They never work out the way I plan, so it's very hard to come up with a reason to plan. It's a nice concept...but...

Lauren is back in Vermont and she's aggravated that match.com is serving up some interesting menfolk who don't realize how weird she is. I'm finding it very difficult to convince them I'm not normal. This leads me to believe that they're not normal, either, which is disturbing...because I know how odd I am, so I can imagine very well how odd they could be. :| Either that or maybe I'm not as weird as I assume I am? I ...don't know how I feel about that.

No, I'm definitely a handful any way you slice it. Look, I TALK to myself...bad bad bad.

When I said I would dearly love an amv.org t-shirt, this is not what I meant. I MEANT an authorized amv.org t-shirt that...oh...uses the correct logo and actually benefits this site.

Rotten copyright infringers. Don't they know it's illegal to take other people's artistic endeavors and mess around with them to make something "new" and then share them online?
