AMV AMV
Pre-edit: 12ish
Edit: 8ish
The Good: Ok, so I may have compiled about 20 seconds of AMV today. Sort of. It's rough, but by golly, it's on the timeline!!
The Bad: There's this annoying thing that happens to me when I make videos: I've got a mental storyboard going on (usually), but I am very easily distracted. If I just STUCK to what's in my head, this would all be so much easier...but no, I have to experiment with this and experiment with that and then complain like crazy when nothing's working and it takes me forever to make an AMV.
The Ugly: There's also this nagging thing in the back of my head that's saying I might want to make sure I have enough footage to complete this AMV before I go and spend tons of time working my way up to the point where everything goes over a cliff. I can't MSAMAMV out of it, this time, though it's arguable that I did it the first time.
Still haven't tracked down the editors who I might need permission to briefly harass *cough* feature in this video, although the way things are going that might not be necessary, anyways. I need to get AWAY from making AMVs that require speed reading skills...grr...

Consumer Alert

There is a brand of frozen Chinese food that recently shown up in the local Shaws. It's called Tai Pei and it comes in cunningly-designed faux Chinese takeout boxes. The little buggers are expensive ($4 for a box that serves one) so I held off trying them until this weekend. Big mistake! Once you're done cooking the stuff, you get about half a small takeout box worth of food, all in all about five fork-fulls.
RIP-OFF. Seriously, you get more food in a Lean Cuisine meal.gbfvvb b
*takes a bite*
Ok, so the flavor of the Orange Chicken isn't bad, but my earlier comments still stands: you can do better with Lean Cuisine, and I really don't like L.C. (ha, my initials!) so all in all this is what one would term a bad deal.
In AMV news, I've waffled again and gone back to MOHS bizarreness. What's bugging me about this AMV is that it's simple and straightforward enough for most people to "get" it at some level, which is a good thing, but it's just not on the same level as any of my other AMVs, in terms of the potential for QCs like "That was...interesting" or "ROFL" or "@_@."
Consequently the "bizarre" nature of this AMV is somewhat suspect. On the other hand, I do think it's right in line with most of the other stuff I've made, in terms of tackling some issue from a different angle than most might expect. IF it works. I had a terrible time with Takeout, forcing MOHS to do what I wanted it to do, and this could potentially be even harder. Mebbe. HA! I always feel like I'm cheating when I'm handed some scenes that don't require lots of blood, sweat and tears to force to work. My gut reaction is "Hey, making AMVs is supposed to be really hard and stressful...this is way too easy, so it must not be ok! I can't use these scenes!"
This might go a ways towards explaining why I've made so few videos. I don't feel I'm doing a good job unless I'm battling for every single frame. What's depressing is that when I am done and something does look like it was easy or a no-brainer, 9 times out of 10 it took forever for me to get it looking like that. -_-

WAFFLE
2009-02-09 10:21:41
I'd like to know why waffles are so notorious for...waffling that a verb was created to describe what they do. I've never really experienced waffle waffle.
Sort of went back to my Footloose AMV, if only from the perspective that - darnit - I can DO this! I also came up with a hare-brained idea for overcoming the most daunting obstacle facing me with that AMV, namely the reason I temporarily abandoned it. The idea is one I had a long time ago for something else, but the application differed so greatly that I never connected the dots until yesterday. I also came up with a few other wacky things to try, which fortunately are all in the spirit of my AMV, so maybe they'll ALL turn up in the video.
This could get really, really ugly. *evil laugh*
And holy cow, I think I just came up with a great title for my AMV...except that would give everything away. DARN IT. For now I'll call it "YVYC[]AC". Definitely worse than MSAMAMV.
Back to basics, though. I need to figure out how to get some AVI clips out of my Dirge of Cerberus footage, since my home PC doesn't play nice with them anymore. -_- I'm sure I'd get in trouble if I tried to do it at work.
Any any case, made my reservations for Anime Boston over the weekend. Hopefully this year I won't be sick as death and can actually enjoy myself. At the time I wasn't upset that I was too sick to really enjoy having a video in the finals (nevermind winning), but since this time last year I was sweating bullets and putting everything I had into 'Bustin for just the CHANCE of getting INTO the finals, it's starting to bug me that all that hard work culminated in my worst con experience ever.

Tales from the Office II - Compared to all this, making an AMV seems like a relaxing diversion.

This past week at work as been...wow. I never had to fly down South for a corporate meeting about a new Web site for our division of the company (thank god), so the marketing department down there put together a PP presentation for us on Friday morning instead. We knew it was going to be a trainwreck from the start, because they have no Web design experience whatosever (oh wait, pardon me, they had someone take a few classes and she's going to design a site for a $250 million company specializing in technology, including all things Internet) and yet intend to successfully do the job it would take an entire team of extremely skilled and knowledgeable e-commerce/Web site developers to pull off. Bear in mind they've haven't consulted us AT ALL about the site...but they went ahead and made something anyways.
: [] <---- That is an emoticon representing the faces of almost everyone in the room at the end of the hour. It was far, far worse than we'd imagined. The icing on the cake - to give one an idea of the level of idiocy and incompetency I'm dealing with - is that they don't have an internal search function on the proposed Web site. This is a site that is so badly designed that I myself can't even figure out where my division's pages are located, nevermind any other information I might be looking for. Basically the only way in hell anyone would ever find anything they're looking for would be via the last resort Search function...but there isn't even THAT available.Their reply when I asked where the Search function was going to be located (hahahaha) was, "Oh we can't do that, then we'd have to put all our products on the site."
Um. Wasn't...the whole point of this site...to allow people to FIND OUT WHAT PRODUCTS WE SELL SO THAT THEY WILL BUY THEM FROM US??
I wrote the term "WTF" at least three times on the notepad in front of me during the course of the presentation. The "W" stood for things like "where" and "what" and "why" and it's fairly obvious what the other to letters referred to. I don't do things like that. Ever.
So Friday night I didn't sleep very well and woke up at 2 a.m. with all this ridiculuousness running through my head. I tossed and turned for three hours before finally falling asleep again, at which time I had an odd dream about being some kind of mercenary skulking around in the sewers, taking out the enemy from the shadows. When I woke up I felt 95% better, so apparently killing people in my dreams is a wonderful way to relieve stress. I've never done that before, but I hope I can do it again.

AMV AMV
Pre-edit: Oh...12 hours?
Edit: 4?
The Good: Got my first MOHS DVD in the mail yesterday.
The Bad: I had a hard time figuring out what scenes I had already harvested clips from many months ago. I'm fairly sure I duplicated a bunch, but ...
The Ugly: VDM crashed on me 80% through the job menu, so I have no idea what clips were made, what clips weren't or how important it is that I re-rip clips from the entire DVD just to be on the safe side. So I've got to do it all over again for possibly the seventh time anyways.
