I've been given a tip that Takeout was considered too cerebral to be shown in front of a convention audience. Or, perhaps, too cerebral for the folks deciding whether it should be shown in front of a convention audience. Not quite sure which, perhaps both?
In a lot of ways I'm quite pleased by this. Takeout isn't your run-of-the-mill comedy AMV, I intended it to be cerebral and weird...and they definitely thought it was cerebral and weird. SUCCESS! :)
In a sick, sad way this has reinvigorated my interest in my lagging MOHS video. I watched a bit of what I had last night, to see how I felt about it, and it definitely needs to get kicked up a few notches in some areas, but taken down in some others. -

This is not an internal debate over whether to get my dog medical attention or attend an AMV convention. My dog (view my profile for corgi cuteness to the max) of course comes first, it's just that I could use the $200 I'd otherwise spend on one night in a hotel at AB to pay FOR her medical bill. The $200 is going to be spent either way, but if I go to the con I'm going to be spending another $200 on top of it that I really can't afford.
Actually more like $400 by the time all is said and done. -_- -

Takeout didn't get into the Anime Boston finals. I'm somewhat relieved...this sort of validates my long-held position that Takeout isn't convention fodder (yes, MC, I'm looking at YOU). It's also sounding like it will be another bad year for comedy at AB, which disturbs me a bit since that means my video was considered among the worst of a bad lot. :|
It would be interesting to know what got it shot down. Too bizarre? Too violent? Too boring? Too little laugh-out-loud factor? All of the above is my guess.
And now my dog needs x-rays, so the decision to attend AB is becoming more complex by the moment. $200 for a hotel room or $200 for dog health? -

I find it kind of amusing to see what various search engines recommend as expanded search parameters for AMVs. One, for example, is convinced that folks can learn more by searching the following terms:
* Gulf of Guinea Capital
* Pulp Fiction Soundtrack
* Boys Kicked in the Nuts
* Natural Plump Girls
* Bull Riding
* Square Deal
* The Tornadoes Tabs
Natural Plump Girls?? Methinks I will avoid THAT expanded search... not to mention that natural plump girls is probably as far down the list of what is found in AMVs (nevermind anime) as anything else I can think of. #_# -
