They finally did it
2009-07-08 19:47:37
My employer has managed to get me to the point where I just don't care anymore. In fact, I don't care so much that - while I could scream my head off about why America is going to hell in a handbag b/c of corporations run by imbeciles who treat their companies like their own private feudal kingdoms - I won't.
I got my official amv.org stainless steel travel mug today. This thing is really, really cool - I was expecting the artwork to be just a flat matte treatment, but it's ACTUALLY more like a metallic enamel with an extremely high-gloss varnish applied over it. Consequently, the blue in the logo is just awesome - and...well...I don't like fussing about my own artwork, but when you see the logo at a decent size, all the details I added start to make more sense. I still don't believe this is a proper logo and am rather embarrassed about having created it, but hey...at least it makes a nifty mug design! Definitely would prefer to see a logo with "animemusicvideos.org" very prominent in it, though, even if those don't seem to have been popular designs these past few years.
It'll be interesting to see if any logo specs change for the contest this year due to the merchandising. Like, vector art only (was that required last year?), 2C/3C recommended, etc.

My morale needs a big boost
2009-07-06 19:15:19
For some reason I've been feeling quite rotten lately - possibly my thyroid going bad again - but a bit of it comes from getting increasingly desperate to escape my job in an economy where many are jobless, in an area with hardly any jobs even in good times. I'm not beat-my-head-on-the-wall desperate, but it has gotten to the point where I dread going to work every day.
Working for a company that feels like it's out to get you will do that. I used to be such a nice, pleasant type of co-worker, who was always very patient and calm and sensible...now I'm the stressed-out, don't-screw-with-me, over-excitable type. :|
But anyways, one minor bright spot in my day was an accident. I discovered someone put my AMV up at gametrailers.com, where it has somehow managed to garner more hits in six months than my AMV has in a year and a half on the Tube. People over there leave better comments than they do on the Tube, so I had fun reading them for a little bit. Then I decided to wander around and ran across the Dead Fantasy IV "trailer" someone shot somewhere with a hand-cam at a con. Listening to the audience react to watching DF was a LOT of fun, it put me right back to being at a con watching good AMVs at a contest and thinking "I want to be able to put on a show like this for people!" Indeed, watching that audience have a blast with DF was quite invigorating, and made me realize that there's only two or three concepts I have that could possibly do that, only one of which is probably feasible unless I want to wind up in a mental hospital.
So, lesson learned today is that watching videos of people having a good time watching OTHER people's videos is a great way to get yourself pumped up (assuming that's what you're going for). I need to watch all of those I can get my hands on.
Also, starting Friday I'm on vacation for awhile. PHEW. I was sort of tempted to haul my PC with me and attempt to do some editing, but every time in the past I've tried to do that, I've never actually got around to doing any editing. :|

Welcome to my world.

hree minutes in, thirty seconds to go, and I just... lose it *poof* there goes my storyline.
T_T
Perhaps it was for the best. I really do love that song. It means a lot more to me than any AMV ever will.
...am I getting desperate or what?
Yes, yes you are. However, we're here to help, MC, because that's what friends are for.

*puzzled*

"Great amv, but I'm not sure how it would hold up to the amv winners of the Japan Expo in France."
What the heck does Japan Expo have to do with ANY of my videos??! If I'm going to say someone's AMV is great, but not the best...I'm not going to drag into the picture some obscure, opinion-based reference to an AMV competition their video would never get within 3,000 miles of. gah!
p.s. Got my AMV.org pin today. Still waiting on the travel mug. The pin I decided to perch on one of my AX awards, since I don't really have any place to put it other than on my bag when at cons. Amusingly enough, the background light green color almost perfectly blends in with the color of my living room wall, so at first glance it sort of looks like there's a disembodied AMV.org logo floating above the award (which is clear, enhancing the effect even further). ^_^
On that note, got a hard decision to make: create an AMV for cons or create an AMV for my own benefit/sanity? The two are not necessarily compatible.

Epic fail
2009-07-01 20:39:30
So I've been dabbling in Facebook recently, setting up my profile, etc. (which proved impossible via dial-up, for some reason, hence my late foray into The Book) and kept wondering why the heck I was getting all these ads in the sidebar focusing on gay relationships. Like - hey - I'm not gay, so what gives? What's in my profile that's giving them that idea?? Like an idiot I don't investigate until now...but it turns out I accidentally had "interested in women" checked off. I don't remember checking off being interested in ANYONE, never mind women!!
Also, why is it some people never change? I got a friend invite from someone I barely knew waaay back who was the proverbial ostracized hanger-on with every clique (and non-clique) in school. She's STILL got all those people as her Facebook friends, too! UGHHH!!! Don't people ever grow up? SERIOUSLY. *IGNORE FRIEND INVITE*
It's been 15 years and I'm still fed up with the whole lot of them.
