Fun Time's Over

Last day of vacation, tomorrow I head back to the wilds of Vermont. I didn't have all that great a vacation - it didn't even really feel like one until a week into it - but at least I didn't spend tons of money on stuff I don't need. Biggest purchase was a new Wacom tablet, the pen on my old one literally fell to pieces at work just before I left. I'm still sort of hoping I can get some more use out of it just at home, but it's in pretty bad shape.
Apparently I also need to get my butt going on some new logo designs. As stated before, however, I suck at logos and I feel like I expended all my "this is what AMVs mean to me" inspiration last year. I have two weeks, though, and I guess technically that's enough time to come up with something. Seems like every year I expect there to be stiff competition for the site logo, there isn't, and vice versa. Maybe I should offer to vectorize other people's logo concepts. I can do that. No problemo! -

:| I said I was a designer, but I've also specifically pointed out that I'm NOT a great designer. Add this to the fact that I'm very bad at video editing and it's just a recipe for disaster. I appreciate the sentiment that I am capable of producing cool shit, though. I really, really do.
I also appreciate the sentiment of: This is more an idea than anything. The idea being, get everybody talking about, thinking about, and doing new and fun things in order to expand our creative output. All that really made my ears perk up. It's giving folks a good kick in the collective rear: Get up off your butts and MAKE SOME COOL SHIT, PEOPLE!! Hurrah!
It can be motion graphics, really clever editing, animation (2D or 3D), something you filmed, who cares. The only important thing is that it's stuff you enjoy and have fun making.
Unfortunately, I don't enjoy any of that sort of thing. I don't "do" motion graphics, clever editing, animation, film, etc. for fun. I don't even make AMVs for fun!! So I'm definitely not capable of participating, and in fact am excluded by default. :|
Should I have nothing to do with this Web site or the AMV community in general if I have nothing to contribute? :( K, that's just getting waaayyy too gloomy... -

You know, the whole "OMG I've lost everything" due to hard drive failure or other acts of AMV God wrath is something I just noticed was going on around here. Immediately an icy bolt of terror stabbed through my heart, because *KNOCKS ON WOOD* I have escaped such calamities for the past year and a half or so. Yes, my old computer's HD did bite the blue screen, however I managed to get a new PC before it completely went kaput and didn't lose anything. Prior to that I lost a lot of stuff that I can never replace...
So yes, people, back up your stuff; don't trust your backups, either - back them up as well. My problem is that I have so many backups laying around, I have a hard time keeping track of what's where, what's the most recent and am constantly running the risk of overwriting something I definitely shouldn't. Then there's the "deleted in a fit of rage" problem, but that's a completely different matter. -

It's not often a comment left on the 'Tube makes me burst out laughing, but that's definitely one of the most memorable responses I've gotten yet on Takeout. I still don't really understand what some people find so shocking about my video, though. It's just supposed to be a mildly sadistic twist on "Where's the Beef?"
Is it the blood? I put in too much blood, didn't I? I bet it's the blood.
