JOURNAL: DriftRoot (Lauren C.)

  • The 'Tube is now making money off our AMVs 2009-08-16 18:30:44 I just noticed this, so I'm assuming it had something to do with the 'Tube's downtime the other day and their re-design, but about 40 seconds or so into my AMV over there, a little thing pops up in the corner advocating the purchase of "Ghostbusters" from iTunes or Amazon

    :o

Shall I take this as implicit permission to keep making videos, because apparently if we make them and put them on the 'Tube, the record companies eventually could profit from them? Talk about a reversal of roles. First we were stealing their money, now we're potentially earning it for them. I would like to know how many other people's AMVs this ad thing has been applied to. They didn't bother with my other AMV on the 'Tube, so obviously not every video out there is being targeted. (note how I went from criminal to victim).

It would be pretty cool if one could somehow figure out if any music sales were generated from one's AMV. I'm sure somewhere, someone on the 'Tube is keeping track of it!
  • :o 2009-08-10 12:25:16 So what are the odds that someone made a logo that is extremely similar to a logo I made, but did not enter? Good grief....I'd like to know where they got their inspiration from, b/c I know where I got mine from and it's not like no one else could have been inspired, either.

Altogether, not too bad a crop of logos. In retrospect I wish I'd done something a little different with mine, but that's the way the cookie crumbles. I do kind of hope that at least the finalists are shown in place in the site header, though...
  • I think this is the third time I've done this 2009-08-09 19:59:09 http://www.animemusicvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=95855

    I like this video!!
  • Phew 2009-08-02 20:36:55 One logo made and submitted and approved. It's kinda cute, if I do say so myself. I do sooooo wish the various submissions would be placed against a screenshot of the site home page, however, because a logo that looks decent on its own could really clash with the site (and vice versa). I suspect this will not be done this year, however, because otherwise it would have been mandated that the preview image of the logo appear against a light orange background....

I guess we all just have to play pretend.

Also, I'm very sick. Going in for a CT scan this coming week. Right now I'm thinking it's my gall bladder, my kidneys or my appendix, in that order. If it's not, then I hope they find something else, b/c CT scans are expensive and I can't afford to be scanning and not finding stuff. It's rather amusing that being sick has kept me confined and focused on doing things I'd otherwise really resent doing, like working on my Web site and job searching and whatnot. Apparently I'm too sick to edit, though, because that's never once crossed my mind. :)
  • *frantically tries to create halfway decent logo* 2009-08-01 16:50:22 I have two or three possible designs in the screwing-around stage. Since it seems they need more entries, I'm making an effort to make something that resembles a thoughtful effort. Haven't had any time to work on stuff like this, but it seems like every year I wait until the last minute (though never this late).

Setting multiple anime to trance/techno/dance with effects and stuff and calling it a day is a new trend? Once something highly original has been copied to death, that something pretty much by default becomes frighteningly unoriginal - I don't care HOW good the copy is.

Plus, the more AMVs you see the more you become aware of what's been done and what not, so it stands to reason that the ignorant masses (as it were) will not have quite the same grasp on the originality big picture as those who've been around the block a few times. This is how I've always assumed the voting in the VCAs can be explained...since it's the people who have a better idea of the big picture who seem to debate the most about what videos were deserving of recognition.
