New HD is up and running - got a bigger one, too. My dead drive is still under warranty (assuming I can find the paperwork), so if I can get the manufacturer to replace it, then I'll have well over a TB of space to play around in. For the record, it is far, far easier to start from scratch with Vista than it ever was with XP. I didn't have to spend hours and hours hunting down obscure drivers and calling Microsoft bad names. This actually *crosses fingers* has gone VERY smoothly. Thank goodness I am not still limping along with dial-up, though, or I would be extremely aggravated right about now.
I'm saving the re-installation of all my video editing software and supporting materials for last, and I can say without complete confidence that it's the part about reformatting a drive I hate the most. I can almost see the AMV Gods leaning over the edges of their puffy white clouds right now, surveying the pristine landscape that is my computer and plotting intricate ways in which my straggling attempts to continue editing may be fiendishly foiled.

Oh no...

My hard drive, my new one, expired in a massive puddle of "read error" last night. My data is still in there - I briefly was able to access it in Safe Mode (somehow, after trying and failing about three dozen times) - but when your computer convinces itself that it doesn't even have a hard drive installed, it's the end of the line. There wasn't even any warning that something was wrong, it just keeled over.

I have certain specific things backed up, but buying a new drive, re-installing/updating the O.S, reinstalling all my programs, re-installing my backups...not to mention losing my HD in the first place... is really stuff I do not need to be dealing with right now. I realize that it's almost never a good time to have this happen, but now is REALLY not a good time.

Oh YES

There is something really awesome about having a terrible day/week/month/year at work (and life in general), and feeling hungry and wishing you had something yummy to snack on...
...and finding half a bag of Pepperidge Farms chocolate chip cookies in the cupboard that you forgot you had. It's good to know I can still appreciate the little things in life. Cookies and milk = good for the soul.

About this logo
2009-08-24 20:18:05
As others have noted, it seems to be a logical progression from the previous one. I still maintain my belief that the logo should have "AnimeMusicVideos.org" in it somewhere. It bugs the heck out of me when that's missing (and yes, I realize I'm a prime offender). I very much dislike visiting a Web site and not having any visual clues as to where the heck I am. AMV, ok...but this isn't the only site on the Web that has something to do with AMVs! Maybe going forward it should be a requirement for the logo to have the site name in it. :|
A case in point is the previous incarnation of the site www.brandsoftheworld.com Up until a little bit ago, they not only utterly failed to brand their own site, but had absolutely nothing on the main page which told you what site you were ON. Epic Fail (Internet memes FTW).
I think that if you have trouble comprehending the humor behind the following, or take mild offense, you're definitely into anime: http://imgur.com/VRNd1.jpg
I swear, I took me a few moments to "get" it. I can't tell whether this was written by someone who IS an anime fan and is mocking themselves, or isn't a fan and just completely doesn't "get" it, by which I demonstrate how much of anime fan I actually am. In any case, I find the public reaction to far, FAR more entertaining: http://digg.com/comics_animation/What_Anime_fanboys_must_look_like_to_the_Japanese_COMIC

Wait a second...

I just remembered that we now live in a world with something called blogs, in which silly people who can't write worth a damn tell the world all kinds of things they really shouldn't...and somehow get all kinds of props for it. Maybe that's what I should do - start my own blog, confess to my anime sins and then everything will be ok b/c, after all, I'm just doing what millions of other people are doing.
See? I can work the system.
Gahhh!! But I'd need a new/another Web sit and actually have to say something intelligent on a regular basis.
