JOURNAL: DriftRoot (Lauren C.)

  • *mope* 2010-04-03 07:23:22 Gahhh I wish I was at Anime Boston! This is probably the most gorgeous weekend it's ever been held, too. I even had a weird dream about being at AB last night, so that definitely means I'm subconsciously pining away for my annual anime con getaway.

Net year...next year I'll get back there...hopefully with an AMV.

The Good: Disc 2 is down. Four more to go until all hell breaks loose when I attempt to make this AMV.

The Bad: I did the math and, assuming I'm shooting for a late-summer deadline, this gives me April, May, June and July to make this AMV.

The Ugly: Four [summer] months to make this AMV? BWAHAHAHAAA!!

In other news: My AMVing almost came out of the closet at work today. It's kind of a tricky thing, explaining AMVs. Seems like people have one of two reactions: "Oh, that's cool..." or "Wow!"Regardless, I prefer not to go into too much detail unless someone's REALLY interested, and thus far such an individual has not had the misfortune to cross my path.
  • Does this look as bad in writing as it does in action? 2010-03-27 18:13:43 Goal: Make clips from hoarded VOB files.

    1. Rip clips from Disc 1 = file is missing, containing pivotal scene. Where'd it go??
    2. Rip clips from Disc 2 = VOB files have become corrupted.
    3. Rejoin Netflix = wait for DVD to arrive in the mail
    4. Insert DVD into computer = DVDFab needs updating, crashes, must restart my computer...
    5. I really needed fix Premiere once and for all = uninstall old program, reinstall new program, where's my S/N? Why can't I find my S/N? Reinstall fails...ehh??
    6. Restart computer = Premiere Pro works - VICTORY!!...oh wait, it can't create a dynamic link AE file?
    7. Open DVDFab, rip DVD...
    8. Test out AE = create new project/comp, import into Premiere: success...create dynamic link? VICTORY!
    9. VOBs cooked ok? Mebbe.

And to think I was reluctant to simply sit down and perform the simple task of harvesting clips! In hindsight, I don't know whether this was outrageously naive of me or a reflection of the unconscious knowledge that I don't think I've ever managed to "simply sit down and perform the simple task of harvesting clips" without calamity striking, hence my reluctance to even make the attempt. :|

Oh yes - cool thing happened on the way to the market! For some strange reason, the radio station played THREE songs, back to back, that I've been drooling over as AMV fodder for the past three years: Footloose, Wake Me Up and Faith...PLUS they played AC/DC's Highway to Hell, forever engraved on my brain as AMV Hell 3's stellar opening! :O
  • Not much to report, just complaints as usual 2010-03-23 20:33:44 XII

The Good: I finished ripping disc 1 for the...hrm...fourth time. I also just realized that I've spent an awful lot of time ripping the same source material over and over again for my AMVs. I think MOHS holds the record at five or six times, and I got a minor itch to rip it again today.

The Bad: Chalk another point up for the AMV Gods. One reason I've ripped footage for XII four times now is because, for some reason, the VOB files have a tendency of corrupting themselves. I don't know why they persist in doing this, but it's happened every single time I've gone back to my carefully hoarded footage, all fired up to attempt XII again, and discovered certain files imploded. This time they decided to sabotage a particularly pivotal scene, so I'm not sure what I'm going to do about it.

The Ugly: I've begun to recall just why I've abandoned this AMV two or three times over the past two years. Not just abandoned, but attempted to obliterate, even going so far as to destroy a lot of custom artwork for it. Not enough footage. So I will say now what I said the last time I said this: that's insane. This is a 24+ episode series, how can there possibly not be enough footage to tell a condensed and abbreviated version of the very story IN the series?? Well, I guess I'm going to find out after I finish ripping the other six discs. Again.

hrm...oh yes. Bang Bang is no more. I'm just no good at being artsy.
  • @bashar 2010-03-22 07:58:41 Congrats on being finalized - that's interesting about the contest, I'll be curious to hear how it turns out.

Short answer to why no AB for me: it's logistics and I don't have a video at stake.

Long answer: I changed jobs, so I have five days of vacation time I must parcel out over the entire year, with three days down just for my sister's wedding in June. I don't like going to AB unless I can be in town for the whole thing, and losing another vacation day for Friday is not going to happen. I've got a dog and no one to dogsit, too, so I can't just take off for a very long day or overnight in Boston, either. I'd jump through a lot of hoops if I had a video at the con, but my life's been insane the past eight months or so and that obliterated my AMVing, not to mention my animeing in general.

No doubt when Easter weekend rolls around I will be moping about, kicking myself for not going, but hey - extra incentive to work hard on an AMV this year and hopefully have a great reason to attend next year!
