In AMV news, I discovered after working 9 hours on Saturday on my computer that my terrible back/neck pain typically associated with 2+ hours editing stints is a fallacy. All that work didn't really bother me at all. I'm not totally sure what's going on, here, but I strongly suspect that the stress associated with working on an AMV is far, far higher than that of working on a 180-page technical catalog my coworkers and I must finish in seven weeks.
When is a hobby not a hobby? When it induces more stress than your job!! -

Yes, that's right, my AMV procrastination just got worse. Not only do I prefer to wash my kitchen floor, reorganize my garage and - in general - do aggravating household chores instead of my purported "hobby," but I also will volunteer to work uncompensated overtime over a gorgeous holiday weekend rather than work on a video. It really did cross my mind "Hey, now I don't have to use my spare time for XII because I've got this 10 hours of work I have to get done! YAY!"
When is a hobby not a hobby? When you loathe your hobby. -_- -

The Good: This weekend my mother and I threw a decent-sized party for my sister, who is getting married in three weeks in Boston. I don't know why, perhaps it's the Boston connection, but in prepping for the party I was bitten by the same excitement as I am prepping to attend Anime Boston with an AMV in tow. The Elixer of AMV!
The Bad: *deletes*
The Ugly: My dermatologist succeeded in removing the wrong spot from my cheek, chalk up -1 for my charisma. The footage I'm using for XII is similarly afflicted, in that - on one level - it's an attractive package - but, on another, if you start looking really close, there's all kinds of flaws that I'm going to have to deal with. AE is to my AMV footage as makeup is to my impending scar. I love analogies!
Also: logo contest coming up in a few months. Maybe this year I'll finally get my act together and make the thingy I've intended to make, but never gotten around to. -

The Good: I think I finally got through all my corrupted footage. I got a little depressed after taking stock of how many discs there are in this series, but then tried to cheer up because that's just more opportunity to pillage clips I know from previous experience are terrifyingly scarce.
The Bad: My plans for XII keep evolving into ever-more-complex, labor-intensive experiments. Considering that early experiments with very simple AE comps made me throw down the mouse in frustration, I've got to be out of my mind. But we already knew that.
The Ugly: I'm beginning to suspect that I'm dragging my feet on even this preliminary clip harvesting process because I dread what's waiting for me when I actually try to make this AMV again. It burns me up that I have an great opportunity, here, but so far I haven't had what it takes to make the most of it. I actually thought to myself this weekend: What would really aggravate me if I never got around to doing? Do I want to be sitting here, five years from now, still whining and complaining about XII? HELL NO.
Also: Slight temptation to pursue the Gravity video I was making alongside XII. Must...resist...ripping DVDs all over again...
