Pre-edit: 14 hours... :(

The Good: Disc 4 is done. Good riddance.
The Bad: Had to re-run ripping the last two episodes on the disc four times and rewrite the job script by hand three times b/c - in typical fashion - the AMV Gods took issue with my victorious statement about the light being visible and all that. Totally screwed up my job script - I still don't know how or why - but I threw in the towel around 11 p.m. last night. I hate ripping this series! It's boring and aggravating and never gives me what I want!!
The Ugly: While I understand the mechanics behind why one five-second clip should be 50MB and another five-second clip half a gig, I find it terribly suspicious that it's happening to me now, when my job scripts can't decide whether they should be serving up compressed or uncompressed files. I just KNOW this is going to come back to bite me when Premiere freaks out at working with such huge files.
In other news, after much searching I have rediscovered how to force Adobe Bridge to rewrite its thumbnail cache for video files that show up as blank white spaces: purge the cache for the images/folder in question, then shut down Bridge as fast as possible, before it can recreate the cache. Restart Bridge and the cache should rebuild properly. It's difficult to do and get all the thumbnails to display, but it's better than tons of blank images representing your video files.

I have sunk to a new low!
2010-09-12 18:48:37
I created a custom message for my desktop this morning that reads (in red): "Anime Boston 2011- YOU KNOW YOU WANT IT." If this doesn't get me motivated, I don't know what will. If nothing else, I want my attractive desktop back.

Disc 4 is done. Final disc will be completed tonight, which hopefully will offer some light at the end of this very dark tunnel. :| Then the "fun" begins. Yee. Ha.

XII
Pre-edit: 11 hours
Edit: 0
Apparently I can't include "hours spent listening in eager anticipation to the music" in my pre-edit tally. Who made that rule, anyways? Jeez... So yeah, still no editing begun, still not finished ripping the discs, STILL dreading the thought of making this video, still dreading the thought of NOT making it. In sum: no progress has been made.
Seems like every autumn for the past three years has seen me embroiled in some kind of calamity. First it was an AMV-instigated fractured ankle, then it was surgery on that ankle combined with job loss/moving, and this fall it's moving AGAIN. Still, deadline for AB is March 5, so even assuming XII takes the same amount of time to make as 'Bustin (unlikely, it's going to take longer), as long as I start by early December I can conceivably pull this off. I can't stomach working on videos for longer than 4 months or so, and I've been plotting this one for years. No wonder it makes me feel ill.
Basic problem: To quote Star Wars,"Stay on target...STAY ON TARGET." I suppose I should feel relieved about consciously scaling back my plans for XII, but I tend to follow the "Are you NUTS??" creative philosophy, so scaling back feels a lot like cutting my losses and/or short-changing my video. Which doesn't exist yet. Hey - I can't short-change what doesn't exist, so no worries!
I had an idea, however, that might just help a lot of other AMV editors also wrestling with their videos: write an AE effects script that spectacularly destroys your source footage. There could even be different presets depending on whether you wanted to blow something up, flatten it with a steamroller or stab it to death. Very cathartic. Much better than making a video about the frustrations of making a video. er hem

Logo contest.
2010-09-09 22:17:33
Despite efforts to make a logo with a little tongue-in-cheek humor, I failed miserably. Nevertheless I did manage to create a logo that sort of looks logo-ish, which is quite a feat. Into the contest it goes. *toss*

Logo contest?
2010-09-03 21:01:24
And here we go again... once more right when I'm in the middle of real-life insanity that precludes hours spent on logo design, which I suck at. Yes, I admit it - I'm a graphic designer who sucks at logo design SOOOO much that she had to break all the rules to design a logo that won a logo contest. -_-
ARGH!! I will attempt something this year, though. Just have to find my concept art...
