XII
Pre-edit: 27 hours
Edit: 2
In finally beginning to edit this AMV, I am reminded of the sensation experienced as a child when, not paying attention to where I was going, I walked face-first into a concrete pole and split my forehead open, resulting in an emergency trip to the nearby grocery store's deli, where I sat on case of frozen meat, surrounded by pre-butchered shanks of beef, and had ice of questionable sanitary state applied to my head while words like "stitches" and "scar" flew through the air.
In other words, oh yeah I've remembered why XII is a fantastic idea - in theory - but in practice it's very hard, doesn't budge no matter how many times you innocently attempt to walk into it and gives me a splitting headache.
/end complaining
Wait - and THEN, when I was ready to prep my audio, I took a look at the waveform and realized the digital recording TOTALLY clipped the audio to death and I was going to have to decide what to do about it. AARRGHH!!

Man I hate editing

XII

I'm not sure what bad thing is going to happen next, but after many years of suffering the wrath of the AMV Gods, I am beginning to get just a wee bit desensitized. Time was I would wrathfully go on and on about every horrible setback which occurred, now I just log a few more hours on the AMV-O-Meter and continue on my non-merry way.
The Good: Just one more disc to rip. Took me the whole week to re-clipify the first five discs of the series, even WITH my job list files on hand.
The Bad: By my calculations, I need to spend at least 10 hours every weekend from now until whenever to even have a chance in hell of finishing this video in time for Anime Boston. Five hours of editing each day, let's say...that's a long time to be doing something I detest. At least if I was working on a comedy video, I'd have the occasion to smile or chuckle or maybe even clap my hands in glee if something amusing was created. But no, I'm stuck with a depressing drama video full of death and destruction.
The Ugly: Also full of effects, hopefully. This is unfortunate, because wrangling these things is going to take a lot of my time. So much time, in fact, that I sort of look forward to the point where I've got umpteen hours of rotoscoping work to do because then I can kick back and watch TV or something while I do my pen tool thing. Or at LEAST listen to music that has nothing to do with my video...
p.s. I've lost track of how "old" this AMV is, but I found some old VOB files from my second attempt at XII which date back to March 2007. Assuming I finish this in 2011, that will be three years of listening to the damned song and plotting finally behind me. WOOO!!

I get to make new clips from every single disc in the series. Nothing like having 14 hours of work over the course of six months down the drain to kick off one's already abhorred AMV with a bang. -_-

AAC was fun
2010-10-17 11:25:12
Despite some technical difficulties at Iron Editor - only one of the three contestants actually got away without serious problems and I still sort of feel everyone could have been asked to edit with Windows Media Player, just out of fairness - it was a pretty fun time. I somehow managed to avoid drinking the habanero-laced "blood" Bashar cooked up for everyone (my condolences again to CorpseGoddess), so that was a plus. Definitely got me in the AMV editing mood, even registered for Anime Boston today, although I don't know if I will attend if I don't have a video there.
This makes me sound old, but the con scene just ain't what it used to be, with all these kids and teens running around, interested in just about everything but the anime itself... At AAC there was one, ONE, video room showing recent anime. *sigh* I know if I was even 10 years younger I'd probably be a lot more tolerant...20 years younger and I'd be the fangirl running around in cosplay, having the time of my life. Damn birthdays keep happening...
