JOURNAL: DriftRoot (Lauren C.)

  • oh my god... -_- 2012-01-01 20:30:37 So what I want to know is...do I get some credit for EYEBROW SYNCING?? Yes, the eyebrows sync better than my lips. GAHH!!

    Things to finish:
    1. Intro green screen on the off-chance I get into con finals. I said I wouldn't do it, but I think I have to.
    2. Roadsigns
    3. Lip sync 1 fix - can't have my first lip syncing looking bad. It's not terrible, but it's not jump-out-of-your-seat-OMG, either.
    4. Lip sync 2 fix - It's exactly six frames worth of cheating that I am sure someone will call me on if I don't fix it.
    5. Pentagrams
    6. God damn glowing eyes
    7. Summoning locale - it's far too pleasant. Inspiration struck today, but it will probably be extraordinarily difficult to enact. I do plan on trying, however,
    8. More glowing eyes...yadda yadda
    9. Trailer title screen - a nagging suspicion that "The Kingdom of L.F.S." is going to completely confuse people is driving me towards changing this to "Knights of Badassdom," even though that doesn't really work. I need some help with this. HELP!
Rewind...10. "Fields of Evermore" aren't evermore-ing. This is the final sticking point of this video, this effect is not working...
    11. Make text 3D...I've delved further into AE than I ever have before, but not yet into 3D land.
    12. Erg, blood drop needs to be fixed...b&w needs to be fixed
    13. Credit sequence. This is going to potentially be a lot of fun, but take awhile to put together. Essentially I would like to show some alternative scene choices, things which did not make it into the AMV, or also/instead showcase some of the special effects which are supposed to be undetectable. How am I supposed to get credit for these sorts of special effects if no one can tell what they are?! The risk here is that then people start scrutinizing things and find all the flaws in them...of which there are many. -_-
  • Tick tick tick 2011-12-30 11:15:51 Time is running out for this video of mine. Still seems to be no official word on when the movie will be released in theaters, though www.knightsofbadassdom.com has finally converted to something other than an outdated blog/twitter feed and actually says "Coming 2012." Push comes to shove, though, I don't have much choice about when to release it once April arrives (assuming AB and Sakura-Con are a go, which is certainly not guaranteed by any stretch of the imagination). I thought about entering in Kawaii-Kon, but the deadline is Jan. 31 and, while I probably could finish the video by then, there wouldn't be time for fine-tuning and then up it has to go to the Internet. -_-

Ugh...my lip syncing looks like nails on a chalkboard sounds, sometimes. It's just so close...but not 100%. :( I really am curious to see what folks think about the lip syncing, I erred on the side of DON'T sync unless it can be made to look pretty good, which means there is a lot of talking and no syncing going on. People tend to forget that watching talking heads in trailers is not very exciting, and that just because the actors are speaking, doesn't mean they're being shown doing so. This seems to be rampant in a lot of AMV trailers...not mine, though. I wish I could have done more syncing, but it was not to be!

Fortunately the CA's have arrived and I am looking forward to the snarkiness, drama and AMVs which will be shortly unearthed for our viewing pleasure!
  • Christmas 2011 2011-12-20 21:10:49 Anyone else not really into Christmas this year? Not sure if it's just me. I didn't buy a Christmas tree, even though last year I was quite excited to a) be able to afford one and b) have enough room in my apartment for one. I've bought about three Christmas gifts, no stocking stuffers, no coworker presents...and I've got until Friday to figure something out for those last two. I failed to send Christmas cards and have yet to receive any (weird). There's no snow in my part of New Hampshire and I will be in Rhode Island by the time 6" of snow *maybe* strolls into N.H. for the holiday.

:( This is going to be a bad Christmas, I think. Also, my grandmother isn't around anymore and now that she's gone, there's a part of Christmas that seems to be missing. I expected this (I'm rather glass-is-half-empty, that way), but I worry that people in this world - in general - need to appreciate the things they have a lot more, since it's often too late to get them back one they're gone. Maybe that's just the nature of humans, though, a survival strategy programmed into our genes. If so, I am really terrible at survival.

Ok, yeah, need to stop being so empty glassy. Ok...um...I think I figured out what I made this fall, AMV-wise. It's not a trailer, it's a parody of a trailer...if that makes sense. It's why I loathe the thought of putting an MPAA "The following has been approved for..." green intro segment onto the front of it...and why I will not do it!

In any case, Happy Holidays, everyone. The AMV hobby, this site (however much I have railed against it in various ways over the years) let me give someone the best gift I've ever given this year: a memorial service video dedicated to my grandmother. For this, myself and others (who have no idea what made that video possible) are very grateful.
  • A wee experiment, please bear with me. 2011-12-18 18:07:54 The Kingdom of L.F.S.
    Pre-edit: 3 hours
    Edit: 76 hours
    Post-Production/Special Effects: 76 hours

Look at this, a perfect tie at 76 hours! Which will win?! Stay tuned!!

In other news, I'd like to know whether I have this whole thing memorized. Let's find out:

    In a world,
    Within our world,
(hrm, I don't think this is quite right...)
    They created a world,
    Unlike any other world.

    "You bastard! Where are we?!"
"'Tis the Kingdom of Elefess, my naive friend!"
(Note: this is where L.F.S. originates.)

"That's pathetic" (also not quite right)
"My 3-year-old nephew can make a better map,
    And he's got learning disabilities."

"You Shanghaied me and dressed me!"
    Um...
" 'Needst' is not a word!"
    "Where we are it is!"

"Thou hast been recruited to fight,"
    Something something, something something... -_-
"In the epic battle of Evermore!"

"You guys do actually look kind of badass."
    (also not quite right)

"Eric's about to level up to grand sorcerer."
"I'm packing an ounce of killer 'shrooms.,"
"And there be monsters in need of pummelin!"

"All right, I'm in." (Hmm, ok or allright? Neither??)

    But for these make-believe heroes

    "Guys, Pentagrams?"
    Explanation here...
"This is a LARP, not the [something something] Wiccan cosplay!"

...and I have to stop here, because my browser keeps crashing and eating my journal entry, this being the third time and I am not retyping the rest of it all. In summary, however, I will [re]state that this is one of the most entertaining move trailers I've seen in a very long time, and it's been a ton of fun working with it. I've just got one ...wait...two...major scenes to finish up, and then it's sort of done!
  • The end is nigh. 2011-12-17 21:30:20 The Kingdom of L.F.S.
    Pre-edit: 3 hours
    Edit: 75 hours
    Post-Production/Special Effects: 74 hours

Yes, the end is near and so I'm slacking off. Only two hours of halfhearted work was done today, mostly fixing something I've been fiddling with for weeks and another thing I've been fighting with for months. More tweaking is still ahead on the latter, but at least it's just tweaking, not wholesale thrashing. Not much else to report. Hopefully more excitement will occur tomorrow.

Still haven't decided whether "The Kingdom of L.F.S." will stick as the title, though. It's not my favorite, not everyone's going to "get" it, but nothing else has come to mind. -_-
