@lloyd9988
I didn't mean fussing in a bad way, necessarily, sorry if I came across like that. The Rookie of the Year/First Video thing has always had a little "catch" to it, as it were, that most people knew about. In recent years it's been more and more obvious, and this year it's become way too obvious for most people to ignore.
@Bashar:
By "fix" I mean address the problem, that's all. Who knows how they'll choose to address it. I think the admins have proved more responsive and progressive about addressing issues than ever before, and I have no doubt they will do their best to reach a fitting solution at what they feel is the appropriate time. They can't make everyone happy, though.
I agree that a DQ is a DQ, regardless of when it takes place in the contest. This particular situation with Rookie/First Video has been let slide for years, though. For the admins to suddenly enforce a stricter interpretation of these categories after the contest is already well underway just doesn't seem likely. There are too many other instances where this should have been done, but wasn't. When the rules for DQ are hazy and have been broken for years and years, it almost amounts to changing the rules for the contest after it's already begun. If they choose to change the finalists at this point, I wouldn't have an issue with it, but I just can't see them doing that if they didn't do so during the semifinals.
And besides, we all know that the VCAs are, on many levels, an imperfect contest. Even if stricter rules and enforcement are adopted, there still will be people (righty or not) who are unhappy about something.

For everyone fussing about "Rookie of the Year"

Please read this: http://www.animemusicvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=81&t=108217
The .Org admins are aware of the issue and next year's VCAs will probably look a little different. The result may not please everyone, but that's generally the way things go anyways.

VCA Livestream - It's like the Lifestream, except it's not going to give you Geostigma

Had a lot o fun watching back-to-back semi-finalists for a few hours last night via the livestream. One thing I kind of dread about the VCAs is playing catchup on the things i might have missed, and this was a good way to get familiar with a whole range without feeling like I needed to pull out an Excel sheet to keep them all organized.
Watching as part of a group was fun, too - not something I ever do except at cons - and it definitely made the experience feel more like a casual group activity than hardcore YOU MUST WATCH THESE 80 VIDEOS AND VOTE ON THEM INTELLIGENTLY OR DIE!! DO IT NOW, TOO!!
That said, I realize now that - particularly during VCA time - having the ability to see an AMV's title/creator and immediately recall the video is a little hard for me without some kind of audio/anime also being listed and/or a visual prompt. It would be cool if someday we could hover over the entry and a popup would give us that information. Obviously not every editor makes slick announcement images, but for me it does actually makes a difference between hitting the "vote" button and not, when I'm staring at five videos and can't quite remember which made more of an impact on me. Chances are I'm not going to re-watch all five to figure it out, if I have access to a nice image to jog my memory and make me go "Oh yeah, I DID like that one." Marketing's a nasty thing, and I do it for a living, but sometimes it does work.

Nope, I lied.

Not quite done. No, it's not the kids and their damn glowing eyes, it's Cloud and his abysmal lack of comedic flair. I do all I can for him, but sometimes it just seems like he has no clue about what's really going on. Even SEPHIROTH has a better sense of humor about all this.
I hope my video doesn't get yanked from anywhere because I'm stepping on movie toes. There is a surprising lack of anything riffing the real trailer on the 'Tube. I can't believe I'm the first person to do something like this, though. It's been over six months since that trailer debuted. :|

Well, I think I'm done.

This was certainly my most memorable Superbowl ever. I a) actually watched the game and b) spent the whole time futzing around with the final, most horrible, nothing-I-do-can-make-this-come-out-right, it's-ruining-everything part of my AMV. The game is over, though, and I think so too am I. Premiere finally choked up badly enough to fatally corrupt my project file (thank god for auto-saves), and I've had to restart my PC over and over because programs ranging from Photoshop to Firefox won't stop malfunctioning. I'm done, my computer's done, and I need to quite while I'm ahead.
I still have to fix some things which don't look as good as they could, but those should be - SHOULD BE - minor tweaks.
*Goes to vote in VCA semi-finals.* Congrats to all who made it to this point and good luck!
