  • I can't get away from Pencilhead. 2012-03-05 18:20:56 There's a couple of new Nissan commercial which features - as far as I can tell - the audio used in Pencilhead. Every time one of them comes on, I kind of look fearfully at the TV out of the corner of my eye and wonder when the scribbly, psychedelics are going to start. That video is going to haunt me forever!!

All qwaqa has to do is make another "Pencilhead" out of Pathfinders or something, and he might instantly find himself the target of corporate execs with lots of money (or lawyers, depending on their mood) in tow.

Speaking of commercials, this morning I saw the Auriga equivalent of commercials - a Cartier leopard fantasy thing that had me riveted for minutes on end. It did absolutely everything right, and even while this very thought was running through my head, plus the knowledge that I am in no way ever going to be able to buy Cartier, I still didn't care. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yaBNjTtCxd4 I did hold onto enough of my good sense to feel badly for the leopard, however.

  • Whew 2012-03-03 20:41:10 Just finished a late entry into the .Org Merchandising contest today. Turns out I have a serious affliction - er - affection for graphic design and, without an AMV to slave over, was feeling rather bored. Nothing gets me going like a surprise deadline, though. I went at this contest like I went at the 2008 logo contest: what do I want to wear on a t-shirt?

Hrm, oh yes, actually, I should have been working on my AMV. Turns out I got some dates mixed up and will possibly need to kick L.F.S. out of the nest around 3/21, not 3/31. I've been working on it so long that it doesn't seem very important anymore, though. Is this how actors feel when they have to attend the premiere of a movie they wrapped up filming over a year ago? I wish I could hold it back for at least another week or so, but if it premieres at a con, then the cat's definitely out of the bag. I suppose this also means I'm running out of time to make last-minute improvements. -_- ARGH!
  • Have you ever turned anyone off AMVing? 2012-03-02 22:53:30 I did. And no amount of explanation that I am not your stereotypical AMV editor could convince them that yes, this hobby is fun and no, you don't have to put your life on hold simply to make an AMV.

I think the worse thing I've done is neglected my dog. Every hour I spend AMVing is an hour I'm not spending with her, and she's either glaring daggers at my back while I edit or staring at me mournfully every time I turn around.
  • This is going to be the laziest credit sequence I've ever made. 2012-03-01 20:38:19 The Kingdom of L.F.S.
    Pre-edit: 3 hours
    Edit: 78 hours
    Post-Production/Special Effects: 144 hours

Today I managed to convince myself that the announcement poster I labored over and should probably utilize as the intro screen to my AMV is just not the right size, the content would be illegible, it wouldn't make sense five hours after I released my video, etc. and therefore I shouldn't bother with an elaborate opener. Feels good, this convincing I don't need to do more work.

The credits are similarly affected, in that I am putting only a half-dozen hours into them, but hey: the credits are mainly there to show some reasons why this AMV took 220+ hours to create. It's few enough reasons, when you get right down to it, but several effects are those which only avid Advent Children fans would probably clue into - the average viewer will hopefully be oblivious, if I did my job right.
