JOURNAL: DriftRoot (Lauren C.)

  • heart attack in progress 2006-09-29 20:32:22 Long story. Very short. ALL MY AMV STUFF IS GONE

And six years worth of my writing.

Plus 40 GB of hoarded video files...

This is a perfect example of why you should never, NEVER, express satisfaction at having narrowly escaped monumental disaster through dumb luck. It will bite you in the ass first chance it gets, downpour on your little parade, turn wood to stone.

How the hell did this happen??!?! Why did my backup program decide to back up my files, my files that aren't as important, OVER the files I'd already backed because they WERE so important? *tears her hair out* Two weeks spent trying to accommodate a massive hd failure to get away with murder (see dumb luck reference above) and no, it can't just go out quietly, it's got to go out with a bang...

Omg...I have to start my AMV all over...omg omg omg... how many hours was I up to...omg... *freaks out some more*

MY WRITING IS GONE!!! I can't replace that! Ever!

  • Countdown to AB '07 2006-09-15 08:54:36 My AMV fever is rising again now that school is almost over, I've got some solid ideas for a few of my AMVs in progress (more solid ideas than I had before, at least).

Focus is now on "Jenova's Brat," pending approval from the powers-that-be for AB's competition. Assuming that gets done, I may or may not tackle one of the others, simply because I'll be frantic with a lot of other things a few months from now. I must think of alternative titles for this - J.B. just doesn't cut it anymore.
  • Oy 2006-09-07 14:15:44 What is it, this persisting habit of mine that fosters all sorts of fantabulous ideas in my head, but never makes them come to fruition? Having gotten my hands on a few choice bits of quality video, and with an impending deadline for deciding what to do for Anime Boston 2007 (this makes two years running I haven't been able to finish an entry in time), I'm really in a fix.

Right now, it looks like "Jenova's Brat" is a go. "In the Key of V" is a possible go, provided I finish the other one, which is unlikely. I don't want to shoot myself in the foot by submitting a crappy video, after all. "Portrait" is stalled out, simply because I haven't touched it in months and, now that I've got said video bits, the other AMVs are just too tempting to resist. We'll see, I guess.

Oh yes, and my pen tool tutorial offer for AMV.org received cries of gladness, so that will be going up in a few weeks. It's 99% written, I just need to create the graphic components and have a few people give a run through to make sure I'm not being too overbearing with my detailed instructions. Volunteers will be needed in a bit, for that.
  • Just because I can... 2006-08-10 09:45:55 I have just been presented with a golden opportunity to not only learn more about video editing, but actually teach it. Wait wait, back up a second. So last night, after class, my instructor compliments my so-called technical expertise and graphic design prowess and adds that the school is interested in hiring me as a teacher. *warning bells go off* Don't forget, Lauren, this is the same school that you feel cheated you out of $10,000+, promotes shady business practices, is all fluff and nonsense and is certainly suspect when it comes to the quality of its curriculum.

WHY they need to hire someone as a teacher who admittedly just barely graduated from their own program is the real question. What's up with this?

Anyways, to sweeten the deal, so to speak, my instructor added that I would have the opportunity to learn more about video editing and work with Premiere/After Effects if I chose to teach a course. He further added that, if I was interested in learning Web, that that would be a great way to go. Whoa whoa whoa. So...if I want to learn something, I teach a course in it?? What's wrong with this picture?! This is one thing that really turned me OFF this school, the lack of training its "teachers" have. In fact, my instructor has already admitted that I know more than HE does about Photoshop. To which I pithily replied, "So can I get a refund?" I didn't get an answer. -_-

Bonus here is that I have six months after I graduate to decide on the teaching offer, apparently they won't hire someone right out of school (and six months is SUCH a decent time to gain real world experience, you know). Gives me time to look for a "real" job, certainly. I'm feeling like I need to whip up one of those pros and cons lists. In the "pros" category I must, admittedly, place video editing opportunities for no other reason than AMVs are still a high priority of mine currently stymied by lack of time.
  • These people!!!! 2006-07-13 15:17:20 I hate dealing with crazed members of the community. I hate it! Aaarrghhh!! Go ahead, sue me for not publishing your letter to the editor - even though it was only held because we didn't have room for it. Jeez.

Finally found record online of someone cosplaying as Haji. Not a very good outfit, IMO, but oh well. Seems the coffin/cello case took them 40 hours to make. That's amazing. Why so long?
