JOURNAL: DriftRoot (Lauren C.)

  • Eck! 2006-10-31 12:04:58 This job thing is really tough. I've spent the past 2-3 weeks getting my portfolio together, arranging my Web site (no thanks to my host, netsol, grrr give me Dreamweaver capabilities!) and generally being frantic to start applying for new jobs. What's this got to do with AMVs? I can't start/continue working my my various projects until this "real life" stuff is done, that's what!

I've semi-decided to return to my "Portrait" AMV for AB '07 - despite losing all my work to a HD implosion, it was my most complete AMV and it is the most solidly planned piece I've got. I spent a few hours the other day loading all my clips back onto my computer (damn, have to remember to backup that drive - again) and rearranging them. One gets an appreciation for who has the most face-time in Saiyuki when one realizes I have about 12 clips of Goku to work with and 75+ of Sanzo. Goyjo comes in second, Hakkai third. It's funny, Hakkai used to be my favorite character, but I believe I like Sanzo better - probably just because he's the least stereotypical of the bunch.

So now I have to start my hour counter up again. I have no idea what I was up to with "Portrait," 90+ hours, at least. So tack on another two for the other night's work. :(

p.s. Pen Tool tutorial review #1 has been received. Many good suggestions, many compliments (thanks Jim!) and I will get back to work on that after I finish my portfolio/Web site and before I start dabbling with my AMV again. Promise!
  • Almost...there! 2006-10-25 20:13:08 Pen tutorial is being guinea pigged as we speak (hopefully). With luck, it will be submitted to the powers-that-be hereabouts in a few weeks and then become available for AMV editors in dire need of some pennish help.

In AMV-land, nada has been accomplished, although I did finally straighten out my music situation - local library kept accusing me of not returning books and wouldn't fulfill by hold requests for various CDs containing music I need - so that's good. Still haven't decided whether to go for J.B. first or D.B. (hey, they both end in B!) and that REALLY needs to happen. I'm leaning towards the former.

Cosplay costume is puttering along, the foam's in the garage and just waiting for me to sink a razor into it.
  • Yata! 2006-10-19 09:27:27 Oro?

Hehehe, funny story about that, but not for now. AMVing temporarily halted whilst I finish the pen tutorial. It's (hopefully) going out for review next week and will be sent in by early November. Current dilemma: how spiffy to make this tutorial. Too spiffy = overkill, not spiffy enough = uninteresting and not representative of my - as someone once commented - "creative tendancies."

I expect my old instructor will request more flashiness and AMV.org guinea pigs less. -_-
  • Well isn't that interesting 2006-10-12 13:35:07 After a rough start, "Dis Believer" is a go (mebbe). Thanks to Willen for all the help.

In other news, my toe-dabbling in Dreamweaver has commenced and I'm excited about finally getting my own Web site up and running, not to mention posting my portfolio online so I can - at long last - attempt to obtain a job I actually enjoy.
  • *&$#@! 2006-10-03 09:07:17 It figures, I start on my Jenova's Brat AMV and, the next morning, discover that more Advent Children footage will be coming my way when Advent Children: Complete is released. Mental celebrations aside at the thought of actually seeing some blood fly when Cloud is skewered (apparently Sephiroth is going to hoist him about six feet off the ground, a la FFVII, to boot), this is annoying because I have a serious lack of necessary footage for my AMV. It's already caused an overhaul of my original idea, this lack of clips, and if ACC could provide them, I KNOW I'll be kicking myself for not waiting...but...if I can't work with what I have, then I'm not very committed.

In other news, my last class is tomorrow night, meaning my free time is much more free than it has been for the past eight months. The current task is to learn Dreamweaver, get a new job, move to New Hampshire and "settle down." HA!
