Tutorial update...and more rcomplaints
2007-02-18 18:13:12
Logged another six hours on the pen tool tutorial this afternoon. My back is killing me (that was from mucking stalls for four hours), then sitting and getting stiff. Updates included revising some sections as advised by tutorial reviewers, adjusting some layout issues and wrangling with videos. I have no idea how much longer it will be until I'm done, but I'm definately getting close. After that, I get to figure out how the heck to upload this thing to the admins so they can post it, since I'm stuck on dial-up and this tutorial is big enough to screw me over.
A nice transition to my next complaint having to do with dial-up: no AMV Viewer's Choice Awards for me! I haven't watched an AMV in months because I just can't download them. Evaluating all those VCA's is completely beyond me, right now. Now I'm getting depressed... :(
What if no one uses my tutorial? Oh well, it will still be a sort of accomplishment, I suppose. It'll be up on my own site, eventually.

"...take two"

I really hate how, if you hit "enter," the journal publishes an entry.
*cough* Decent progress made on pen tool tutorial. Although it took my five minutes to export the latest Flash video, my computer didn't crash trying to encode all 1,488 layers of the file. Hopefully I'll have all the videos finished by the weekend, at which point I will stick them in the tutorial, adjust all the buttons/links, redo some of the text and call it a day. Or seven months. Amazing how a 250-mile move and career change will disrupt one's leisure time.
I should talk to some folks about a vendor booth at AB peddling helpful AMV stuff. Nothing for sale, of course - though I still think my idea of plastering someone's AMV on a t-shirt (and/or fanlisting) for $10 a pop is a nifty one. Probably too hard to orchestrate, though...hrmm...and some kind of copyright infringement involved. Aha! I can ask my professional photographer friend to take cosplay shots! She can shoot, I can Photoshop! Wait, I'm not going to AB this year...I have no money...WAIT I'M GETTING $2,500 BACK IN TAXES...no, no...must beef up savings account...
AMV update: Nothing to see here, folks, move along. My creative juices (not to mention my eyeballs) are drying up at work and the idea of sitting down to work on my own projects at home in my spare time almost makes me ill. I need to try wearing sunglasses at work like I head the guys who program for Microsoft do. New guinea pigs for pen tutorial final review are welcome to contact me at any time.

Dial-up in this day and age is a farce, a crime and completely unacceptable
2007-01-20 08:00:07
Look, I'm finally online...and I'm downloading the latest Azureaus update at a whopping 556 B/S... apparently it's going to take me a few days to get the update, which in my past life would have been downloaded and installed before I could blink. I'm fairly sure right now that I'm going to drop Internet service at home altogether. I'm not paying $50 a month for something that's going to raise my blood pressure this high and accomplish absolutely NOTHING!
I have been working on the pen tutorial, mostly redoing the videos (for a third time) and rethinking some of the sections. My thumb drive went missing in the move, so until I can find it, I won't be toting the tutorial file to someone else's computer that can actually upload the bugger. My workplace's Internet policy restricts just about every Web site of even minor interest to me, so I can't go that route. This means, if I drop home Internet access, I'm basically cut off completely - everything from anime to gaming to celebrity gossip to some of my e-mail accounts will be out of reach for months at a time. I don't know if my anime hobby can survive this. I really, really don't. GET SATELLITE, DRIFT!! Yeah, well, if you've got $700 I can swipe for the equipment and another $80 a month you don't mind forking over, sure, I'll sign up for satellite Internet.
No AB for me - I've got no money and no time off. My taste of the Hynes Convention Center will be limited to attending the Photoshop World Conference at the beginning of April...too bad it wasn't backed up to the convention, then at least I could get a glimpse of anime fandom...*sniffle*

Awhoooo

/me is moving to Vermont. The most rural, mountainous area of Vermont possible, aka I have to use dial up. My computer doesn't even HAVE a dail-up modem!! OMG....
Pen tool tutorial will be a go as soon as I move in, get oriented to the new state and stop weeping over my horrendous Internet capabilities. Uploading the little bugger could prove interesting.
AMVs are probably a no-go for AB '07, which I doubt I will be attending.
