  • *not so depressed* 2007-04-23 12:54:58 Dokidoki got back to me and said the tutorial is a go. AAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

He also had some very helpful suggestions which I will undertake this week. If all goes according to plan (since when has that happened, though?) the guide will be done by the weekend.

In AMV news, "Addict" is bogging me down. I do not have the clips I need to do the things I wanted and I need to take a major step back from the whole project and reevaluate its progression. I seem to have misplaced some of my timeline files, too, and I've been working on this AMV for so long now that I've forgotten a lot of the initial plans I had. Part of me wants to put the whole thing away and continue with my other projects that seem a lot more promising (i.e. a lot less frustrating) but another part insists this is just me avoiding the pitfalls of AMVing and making excuses for not slogging on. To slog or not to slog, that IS the question.

For all that Gojyo is a womanizer, there are surprisingly few visual examples of this in Saiyuki. Mostly just exposition is getting this across. And this is really bad because I need to use everything I can get my hands on, but there's not much of it and only so far it can be stretched (Literally and figuratively. I did some creative stuff last night to achieve Gojyo hitting on a barmaid, which only Sanzo saved from being completely ridiculous). Wow, I just reread that next-to-last sentence and got a completely different and lewd meaning out of it. @_@

Exposition is not helpful when you're trying to make an AMV. Unless it's got lots of lipsynching...
  • *depressed* 2007-04-23 10:26:13 For the first time in three years I wasn't able to attend Anime Boston - and it was such a gorgeous weekend, too. Ok, so my cosplay outfit wasn't done and my AMV is far, far from done, but hitting that convention is the highlight of my anime fandom and I really, really miss it.

*deep breath* So now I've got to slap myself around AGAIN (this will make two years in a row) and get "Portrait" finished AND my costume (and maybe one or two more, because I'm on a Bleach re-watching marathon and I'm remembering how much I love that series. I need to figure out if I'm too old to play Orihime - I've got the red hair, at least.
  • The angst never ends 2007-04-20 10:24:00 So the pen tutorial is finally in the right hands...and the verdict is the videos won't play. At least so far. But that was still enough to keep me awake, tossing and turning until midnight in a low-key fit of rage and despair.

    The positives:
    1. Even if the videos don't play for one person, that doesn't mean they won't for someone else, so they're still worth including in the tutorial.
    2. The videos are basically bonus material - the tutorial does not rely upon them to teach the pen tool. Yes there are references to them all over the place, but not viewing them won't render the guide less comprehensive in any way.

    The negatives:
    1. I spent many, many hours planning, recording, encoding, re-encoding, editing and placing those videos. Was it all for naught?
    2. The videos are the things that make my tutorial (IMO) that extra bit special, extra helpful and extra worth checking out. One doesn't have to actually work hands-on with the pen tool to get a good grip on how it functions if you've got videos to watch.
    3. I have no idea whatsoever how to fix the problem because I have no idea WHAT the problem is. The document works 100% fine for me and every computer I've ever tried it on. It also works for 90% of folks who've tested it for me. I suspect any problems that do arise have to do with the system it's being used on, something I don't think people want to deal with just to use the guide.

    :(

And they're all Flashanyways, it's awfully hard to screw that up which is WHY I made all the videos that way in the first place!! What the HECK is going on??? There should be no weird playback issues WHATSOEVER!!

Let us hope that dokidoki did not read the instruction page in the tutorial and just wasn't using the versions latest Flash and Adobe Reader. Because that's the only thing I can think of to try, barring delving into the mechanics of his system, which I don't think he wants me doing.
  • Pen Tool Tutorial uploaded... 2007-04-17 12:46:06 ...despite massive problems transmitting a 77MB file thanks to having only dial-up and a company that blocks file hosting/sharing sites. I finally hacked the file up into little pieces, put them on my Web site and sent the admins a link to the files so they can download them that way and reconstruct the PDF on their end. I have no idea how they're going to eventually post it in the Guides section - everything there is pretty small compared to mine - but we'll see. I hope I didn't annoy dokidoki too much with all this.

*gets down on her knees* PUH-LEEZE let the file work on their end and PUH-LEEZE let them post the guide without much trouble (and ASAP, too, would be nice).

Oh, right, and I finished a seventh logo last night after yelling at my computer for awhile. It's not what I set out to make, but it's kind of interesting, so what the heck.
  • I'M DONE!!!! 2007-04-15 20:47:54 THE PEN TUTORIAL IS FINISHED. What's today's date, April 15? So that makes it approximately 6 months from start to completion. *sigh* If only my AMV projects took so little time... AHAHAHAHAHA!! Imagine that, I would have...six AMVs done by now if that were the case.

Just uploaded a sixth logo contest entry. Not very happy with it, but it's pretty much gotten to the point where I'm starting to overwork it, and that's always a bad sign. Oh well. Anyone with a halfway decent eye might be able to figure out which logos are mine, but I'm hoping that won't hurt my chances. I can't WAIT to see all the other entries!

That Ty Pennington dude is such a sell out. I swear, every other commercial on TV/radio he's acting as the narrator. At some point that homey, trustworthy personality becomes incredibly fake when it's applied to a crazy mishmash of products who are only using him BECAUSE of his homey, trustworthy personality. Heck, I remember when he was just the carpenter sidekick on a home remodeling show. The day I switch on the TV and he's got his own Biography or "E True Hollywood Story" show, I'm really going to be disgusted.
