New AMV off to a good start

Hopefully this will be my entry in Anime Boston next year. It's a comedy, so it has a good shot given the low turnout I understand that category has. Plus it's a good idea (of course I think so...) and fairly simple to execute.
Ripping MOHS DVDs is a pain, since I've got the highest-quality overseas raws that were available at the time. The episode order is different and I can't obtain the rest of the DVD series right NOW because it's not out yet. So I either have to figure out what I'm missing and use my raws or sit tight and wait for the rest of the episodes. I desperately need all the footage I can get so this is kind of important.
One bad thing: I can't get rid of all the interlacing. May have to check in the forums about this.

Time to revisit S.E.?

One lengthy commentary I got on my beta recommended I ditch the last third of of the AMV and just reconstruct Sv.C's fight. This is pretty hilarious because I had to STOP myself from doing this...

I have to get this off my chest

I want to use Liberi Fatali for an Advent Children trailer-type AMV. I assumed other people would have had the same idea and made lots of awesome AMVs.
WRONG. Five people have done this and the best of the five made me ill - I'm not going to touch the others with a 10-foot pole. WMM and all that. @_@
This is incredibly encouraging. :D

Doodly do...

Something good is happening! The problems with S.E. are starting to manifest themselves more clearly. This usually happens when I take a break from a creative project I was focusing too narrowly on…what I thought was OK starts not to be. Question is, how much time and effort am I willing to invest in fixing them?
One interesting thing: I’ve been watching the beta at work on a computer with nothing more than a standard-issue soundcard and internal speakers (and the volume turned down really low), which really screws up my viewing experience. A lot of the stuff I synched to in the music drop out, it’s very tinny, hardly any bass and you can’t hear the lyrics very well. A good AMV maybe should be able to stand on its own without music and still be entertaining and comprehensible (mine can, I think). Should a good AMV still be able to stand solid if the audio part of the experience is wrecked? I don’t know. In some ways, this is equivalent to having no music (the video shouldn’t lose its flow) but in more ways it’s not, because if you’re hearing something that sounds bad, what you’re watching is probably not going to look its best.
Started rewatching MOHS for the third time last night, got through episode five and was encouraged by the footage I found. I may indeed be able to pull off the AMV for this series, but it’s going to take a lot of experimentation because I don’t know WTF I’m doing or how it’s going to look. It’ll definitely entail dipping into AE, which means I need to haul out my training series on it (again) and refresh myself. I take one step into that problem and start stuttering. The funny part is that I’m pretty comfortable with the interface – between working in Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign all day and Premiere most nights, I have a considerable experience switching between Adobe interfaces that continue to migrate towards a common functionality. I still get daunted by AE’s layout, but then I remember how overwhelming it was learning to get around in InDesign and take heart. It’s just a matter of practice – everything will make sense, eventually.
Watched a nice AC the other to day "Mitternacht" and now the song is stuck in my head. It also made me want to make my own version to this song, because I saw what could be done and how it could be done better. I will resist, though. If my Haruhi AMV doesn't come together well, I'll probably switch over to B.A.D.

Ridiculous!

$60 for the FFVIII soundtrack??? JEEZUS!! I can't believe the special collection four-disc thingy I had way back when was that much when it came OUT nevermind ...what...almost nine years later?! I knew I should have kept it.
This may just prevent me from making my AMV. There is no way in hell I'm paying that much money just to get my hands on Liberi Fatali again. Why oh why did I throw out that CD??
(because you needed the case to store fansubs in)
Ok fine; but I could have saved the CDs...
