JOURNAL: DriftRoot (Lauren C.)

  • Journal abuse ahead! 2007-09-22 12:02:46 I have a theory about the Compilation of FF7 that seems to be more and more plausible, now that Crisis Core's come out. Spoilers ahead, get the hell out of my journal if you don't want to know about it.

    1. Advent Children ends with Sephiroth warning that he'll be back, yet the creators insist AC is the end of the road, as far as Cloud's personal story is concerned.
    2. Dirge of Cerberus ends with Genesis warning that he's back, and that he's about to meet up with his brother. Whether this is Angeal or Sephiroth is up for debate. Somehow I don't think it's Angeal, though that makes more sense on a purely familial level.
    3. Crisis Core ends with a note that the story will be continued in FF7 - they never say whether this is FF7 the game, just Final Fantasy 7, which at this point could arguably encompass EVERYTHING FF7, games, OVAs, stories, you name it.
    4. Advent Children Complete is on the horizon, but as of yet we know very little about it. One thing we do know is that it's considered to be a replacement (not an upgrade) to the original AC.
    5. Everyone at SE is swearing up and down that they can't do a remake of FF7 because they don't have the staff. Yet, at the compilation show in Japan, they're showing off full CG renderings of all the characters as they appeared in the game, with hints at there being a reason for this other than "we just wanted to play dress up."

Here's my thought: SE has built up Genesis way too much to leave him just running around the planet, but another game with him in it seems kind of unlikely. So, what if, instead of Advent Children Complete, we get treated to another full length OVA/movie that pulls the entire compilation, as well as the first game, together? Think about it - who's story has not been finished even with this whole Compilation coming out? SEPHIROTH'S STORY, and his story involves EVERYONE from all of the games and OVAs, in one way or another. My theory is bizarre, unlikely, far-fetched, idiotic...I know, but...what if? SE doesn't have the manpower (they say) to whip up a full remake of the game, but they've been slaving away on Advent Children Complete for quite some time now, with hardly anything to show for it. They're running out of time, too, to celebrate the FF7 10-year anniversary.

Me? I'd rather have a movie, because if they do a remake it's going to be for the PS3, which I can't afford to buy right now or in the foreseeable future. Maybe after Devil May Cry 4 and FF13 and a few other things come out I'll consider investing in that system, but right now there's nothing I want to play that makes the price tag worth it. Plus, that way it's easier to get more fodder for AMVs. :D

I’m being bad again. I keep messing around with FF7FM when I should be doing other things. Last night I was so pleased with my efforts that I had a hard time sleeping. Or rather, the song was stuck in my head to the point where my brain wouldn’t shut down. Now I’m zonked…and somehow not looking forward to more weeks of editing with the best of Kenny Loggins.

Fiddling-wise, I spent about an hour trying to get the street dancing sequence in DoC to synch with the music. The catch (I seem to do this a lot) was that the clip accidentally dropped onto the timeline in exactly the right place and I was like – Oh cool!! What a great idea! - but then I moved it to work on something else and later I couldn’t figure out where the dancing clip had been situated. This is bad, because it synchs well, but not in the way you’d expect, and it can be off by a good five frames or so before it really starts looking wrong. It gets worse, though…

I had noticed when I originally played DoC that only one of the dancers is any good, the others are off the beat, wobbly and generally sub par (one of them actually almost falls down). I had also noticed in the game that the folks on the sidelines keeping time with the music do a rotten job of it; apparently they have no sense of rhythm. So there I was, attempting to synch to the dancing and clapping and general merriment, but only ONE source of motion actually does synch; if you’re looking anywhere else then it just doesn’t look quite right and the unobservant would assume that it’s my fault, not theirs.

Yeesh, I felt more like a choreographer than an AMV editor last night, except I couldn’t yell at the dancers, “NO, it’s KICK and KICK and SPIN and KICK! Like THIS and THIS and THIS and THIS!! Do it again, and this time do it RIGHT!”
    *take 2*
“NO, Tina, where the HELL are you looking?!”
    “She’s looking at Vincent!”
“At Vincent? Listen, baby, I don’t care if it’s Sephiroth sitting up there, you PAY ATTENTION to the music and get with it!”
    *take 3*
“SHEILA!! This is not a Vegas show, save your panty flashing for the bedroom!
    *take 4*
“KICK AND SPIN AND KICK! What don’t you understand?? See Leila? See how she’s PAYING ATTENTION?! DO IT LIKE SHE DOES!”
    *take 5*
“It’s a damn good thing you girls didn’t get paid for this, because the WRO would want its money back!”

Yeah, can I have my money back? This setup wasn’t cheap and my dancers aren't cooperating.
  • !! 2007-09-16 20:46:23 I thought everyone here would have seen Advent Children by now...or, at the very least, would have seen AC if they're going to download an AMV that uses AC. So why in the world are people saying they don't "GET" Sephiration Anxiety? How the HECK can you NOT get it if you've seen the movie?? I showed it to someone who'd never even HEARD of Final Fantasy and SHE got it! (Ok, granted, she thought Sephiroth was a woman, but hey...good thing I didn't use footage from Crisis Core! I'd like to know whose hot idea it was to give Sephiroth's CC persona 3-inch eyelashes).

And no...Sephiration Anxiety is not some yaoi promotional piece! That better have been a fake quick comment!

Oh yeah, and for everyone who thinks I'm an idiot or something because it took me so long to finish S.A. (a two-minute AMV), I managed to put together a 1.5 minute AMV that's chock full of transitions and things in about eight hours...so there. :P No one's going to see it until I've labored over it for another eight , of course, or maybe 16...or maybe 92 hours... (ok, I am making MYSELF out to be retarded when I put it this way) but still...!

Ah, it's so much fun to get worked up over silly things like AMVs. It's a great stress reliever...puts other things in perspective, surely. :D

    My Web site ^_^
    Pre-editing: 10
    Editing: 5
Result: A site I can't evaluate the load times on because I'm stuck on dial-up and, while it's not user friendly for ME, it's probably fine for "normal" folks. Someone's going to make some wise-ass comment that it's a scary site, too, I just know it. Well sorry, it's supposed to be a place I get to design as I like - not something for someone else who has a vastly different agenda.
  • Ow ow ow OW 2007-09-15 16:43:33 I switched my home computer station to standing mode - this is how I used to work at my job all the time, until I got my new job and they said they'd fire me if I pushed the issue. Unfortunately, my butt may feel better, but if you don't have the station perfectly set up, other things start to hurt. OW

Mmm...I've decided I'm avoiding my supposed "next" project like the plague because I'm scared of it. Mostly I'm nervous because I know it's got potential, but I don't know if there's enough footage actually in existence to pull it off. I also don't know if I'm good enough to make the best of what I have...

I keep fiddling with another "fun" project, "FF7FM" (this is how Sephiration Anxiety came to be, I was just going to "fiddle" with it for a few hours, and before I knew it three months had gone by and I had an AMV on my hands). It's not very original, ripoff of AMV Hell, I guess, but Z's got the corner on that style, now, and we're all just doomed to be in his shadow forever. And besides, it wasn't AMV Hell that gave me the idea, I'd have done it if that never existed.

Erm, yes, so anyways, FF7FM: AC is hell to lipsync and it makes me FURIOUS when I have something hilarious in front of me, but only if you ignore someone's mouth.
  • Ow 2007-09-11 12:32:40 My back/neck/hips are really, really bothering me, too much computer work (this means I spent too much time AMVing in the past few months). I seriously need to take a break or risk winding up in physical therapy again. I wish working on computers wasn't so bad for your body.

Reception of "Sephiration Anxiety" has been predominantly positive (except for whomever is the idiot out there who starred it first and gave it one star...how lame), with folks encouraging me to keep at this hobby. All I have to say is, if you liked what I did with this AMV, as far as making it something different from all the other AC AMVs out there, stay tuned for "Jenova's Brat." If I'm lucky, I'll finish that within a year.

Hrm, oh yes, today is the sixth anniversary of 9/11. I remember that day very well, it was a gorgeous fall morning in southern Rhode Island, I was just arriving at work, not looking forward to the rush of getting a newspaper to print in four hours, but happy about the weather. Today, in central Vermont, it is rainy and humid in a cold sort of way and I am struggling to put together an e-mail campaign that won't go out for a week. It feels the same, though, 9/11 always feels the same to me now, no matter where I am and what's going on: a day whose potential is ruined for millions of people.
