JOURNAL: DriftRoot (Lauren C.)

  • Editorial fraud 2007-10-01 22:33:53 So I'm working on a few other projects right now, only one of which is actually something I've been planning for a few months now. With the exception of one AMV (if I can even call it that, it's part of a compilation - think AMV Hell, Drift-style, which means lots of text) I'm having a pretty hard time. It's reminding me of the disaster that was (and is) Portrait of the Addict, an AMV I worked on for almost three years with nothing to show for my efforts because it simply...was...not...working. It still makes me ill, thinking about and the 16 GB of footage hogging space on my drive because I'm so stubborn about giving up on aything I start.

At least with Sephiration Anxiety I knew exactly what I wanted and, for the most part, had the footage to pull it off. These other projects...what I want is not really there, I have to make it up from scratch. This is bad, because I'm slow...and if S.A. took me that long, imagine how much worse it's going to be if I don't have a clear concept in mind.

I guess this is where I get to find out if I've got any real ability as an AMV editor. Simply tacking together an AMV that condenses an event that occurred in the anime is not all that hard compared to tacking together an AMV that presents events that never occurred in the anime. Most of the projects I'm having a hard time with fall into this category.

Apparently I am really bad at this and just got lucky with S.A. I'm a fraud. :(
  • Take THAT! 2007-09-30 13:29:32 WCWSWKIA has gotten the green light for fiddling. But if I named an AMV this, how would one possibly verbalize it? Whakawaswikya? I can't even pronounce it right twice in a row. -_-

Oh well. I've got many many weeks to come up with a decent title. I would very much like to come up with something else pithy, like I did with "Sephiration Anxiety." There will be no "Cloud Tribute" from me, no SIR! I would never willingly download a video with the word "Tribute" in it, unless the other words were sufficiently intriguing. "Trials and Tributations," for example.
  • *Scratches head* 2007-09-27 10:25:46 I don't understand why almost 40 people downloaded my AMV overnight. Maybe the counter was on the fritz yesterday and caught up again this morning? Weird. Not that I'm complaining. :D

Oh, and that should have been "WE CAME, WE SAW, WE KICKED IT'S ASS!" My doubts about that AMV are growing very rapidly, so it might end up in FF7FM instead. Kind of a shame, but if the footage isn't there, what can you do? Maybe I should keep v. 1 of FF7FM on a totally comedy kick, so then I can save the non-comedy for v. 2? But I'd hate to leave out some of my really good non-comedy and then have it never show up anywhere.

Ah, the only thing to do is make v. 1 and v. 2 at the same time, release them at the same time, and sit back and see what happens. I wonder if anyone's done something like that before...

  • MOHS video without a dance sequence. 2007-09-26 12:12:56 Takeout
    Pre-editing: 8
    Editing: 7

Current low-point: MOHS gets cute with all kinds of dramatic lighting effects, which looks really nice when you’re watching the series, but really throws a wrench into things when you’re trying to make an AMV.

Current high-point: An area of difficulty was smoothed out last night, or rather, I figured out what was wrong and removed said wrongness to achieve something closer to rightness.

Why is it that, in all my projects, I get handed a terrible problem right around the 5 second mark, where I just do NOT have enough footage to pull off what I want to pull of? Is this some kind of curse?

WE CAME, WE SAW, WE KICKED ASS. <---Oh, that project is going to be so much fun. Maybe. IF it works. If it doesn't, I'll be very depressed.
  • Debunked! 2007-09-24 07:59:46 My theory is completely overturned. *sigh* OH WELL.

I need to see what people have done with "Ghostbusters."
