I'm really going to try and edit.
2012-11-03 09:31:31
First I have to reinstall all my editing software and whatnot, since I haven't made an AMV since I reformatted my PC. Ugh. It's always SOMETHING, isn't it??
Unexpectedly hilarious find: reinstalling DVDFab, the - er hem - source of the software has created a massive, Christmas-themed extravaganza for the setup application. Lovely choir music, images, icons, the works! XD
Which reminds me, I guess I need to switch my avatar to X-mas soon...

It's editin' time!
2012-10-28 12:43:25
Which means I'm procrastinating again and not editing! One thing good about choosing to do unpleasant tasks rather than edit is that I get all sorts of things done that I'd otherwise not. Today I've vacuumed out my car, done two loads of laundry, washed the kitchen floor, worked on some PR and this afternoon I'm planning to revamp my portfolio and LinkedIn profile and possibly reorganize my space in the basement. Just thrilling, getting all this stuff done!
Things are really getting into crunch-time, though, if I want to submit anything to AB next year. I've been having silly fantasies about trying to make XII again (for the fourth time), but I doubt it's going to happen. Another idea involves Excel Saga, which I hear is a bear to clean up (and I hate that part of AMVing more than any other part, which is saying something). Yet another idea uses Casshern Sins, but is very artsy and involves action sequences, which give me mild panic attacks trying to make. Then I've got a totally outrageous, but hilarious, concept with MOHS, but it's both wildly appropriate and inappropriate for con audiences. My VHD AMV is going nowhere, but that's OK. What to do, what to do...
What I need is a video I can work on with someone else, maybe. Not an MEP, just something I can collaborate on, whether it's help with the editing or help with the concept or certain effects or whatever. :|

That's the last time I wish for better anime
2012-10-11 19:32:10
Summer anime season was supremely "meh" for me. The only show I remember actually enjoying was Sankarea, and I can't recall if I actually finished watching it. This fall season, though, yeesh! I had to break out my Excel spreadsheet again to keep track of what I'm watching, who's subbing it, etc. It's like my own personal ANN "The Stream" column, where every week there's a "Will [blank] make the cut next week?! Tune in next time to find out! Same ANN channel, same ANN time!"
Also, I succumbed to my icomprehensible adoration of Uraboku the other day and made a desktop wallpaper out of Luka. It's really trite and quite an appalling representation of my graphic design skills, but he's my type so I don't really care as long as I get to look at him looking at me out of the corner of his smoky, gray/green eyes...
er hem
Not sure what my favorite show this season is. I loooved the first episode of Kamisama Kiss, because I loooove nasty bishounen types and I had high hopes for Tomoe, but he turned into the generic bishie fox demon in the second episode, so my interest plummeted. This probably makes my favorite Shinsekai Yori, and mostly because it has (so far) the most class. *sigh* Anime nowadays seems like it's all a tease, without the right moves that just build and build until it just blows you out of the water.
[deletes further analogy] OMG I can't write that. @_@
I've been at it for a solid 15 years, now, but I don't think it's just a weariness that comes with 700+ anime under one's watching belt. (I find this incredible, but since I'm about to turn 35 and I got into anime around 20, that adds up to 15 years...I've been yanking out more gray hairs, lately.) At least I still get carded sometimes. I've noticed they do it more if I'm super perky - apparently legal adults are mopy when purchasing alcohol. :|

No, no I don't need more cognac.

We had an arts and crafts show at work today, and after much prodding by my coworkers, I showed off two of my AMVs. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive tinged with a heavy veneer or "I don't understand, but I guess it's impressive" and - predictably - hugely focused on 'Bustin.
I didn't show Takeout, because I realized very late last night while prepping the files that a non-anime fan would take one look at Asahina's breasts and tune out. In a bad way. I can't show that at work! It's not often I get smacked in the face with just how far removed from mainstream anime is, even older anime like MOHS, but this was definitely one of those times.
Although I'm pleased people enjoyed my videos, I've also come face-to-face with the unpleasant truth that 'Bustin is almost universally enjoyed because it really caters to the lowest common denominator, a.k.a it's extremely accessible by most people. This means my next video, if I want it to do well, should cater. I've never deliberately catered before and regardless of where I stand on "pandering" to a con audience, it makes me feel a bit icky. I want to enjoy making my AMVs, but I also want to see all that work pay off with a chance to have my video in shown in front of an appreciative audience. These two things do not necessarily overlap.
