Good job Spatula_Castle - that AMV gave me a disturbed night's sleep! (kinda ironic)

I had an idea for the very first part of my AMV that seemed quite viable until I did a test run last night. After searching through every single video effect and transition (finding a few that gave me ideas about other ideas) I couldn’t locate anything that would help me accomplish my plan. I was trying to avoid going into AE with this AMV, mostly because I don’t want to spend hours in AE, only to go back to Premiere and find out that nope, it’s not working quite right! Back to the drawing board! Looks like I might have to, though. My cheesy little AMV is slowly morphing into quite the technical challenge.
The cheese factor is a big one. This AMV is meant to be corny, which means I am using over-the-top "canned" effects to make the point that Advent Children, after a few good kicks below the belt, will crumple like any other testosterone-laden individual if enough pressure is applied in the right places. Maybe I'm not the woman to do it, by gosh darnit, I'm going to try!
I fear I’m still going to come out of this experience branded as a big FF7 fan, though. I NEVER GOT MORE THAN FOUR HOURS THROUGH THE GAME!! I just can’t take FF sprites seriously, not after FF8, anyways (I played FF8 when it came out, then attempted FF7 awhile later, bad idea).
Oh, now there's a possible title, "AC: Kicked Below the Belt." Only if I succeed in the crumple-department, though. If not, no way.

The Good: I had FUN last night working on this AMV – I erupted into maniacal, gleeful howls of laughter at least three times.
The Bad: I’m not sure how laugh-out loud funny this project is going to wind up being (however much I may be howling), and that might hurt it because some people watch comedy AMVs and expect a chuckle-fest, and when they don’t get it, they slam it for not living up to “Quid Pro Quo” standards (for example). I intend this to be more than just a “fun” AMV, but there’s no way it will ever be full-blown comic mayhem. This is Advent Children, after all, not Excel Saga.
The Ugly: One of my comic devices can be easily overlooked, or rather – it doesn’t have a lot of time to sink in and therefore its impact is lessened, unless, of course, people are intrigued enough to actually pause the AMV and investigate what’s really on screen. (Oh wait! I can make little on-screen instructions encouraging them to do so!! YES!). The fact that I’m designing this AMV for a convention audience also bears mention as an Ugly, I guess, since some images may seriously deteriorate – quality-wise – on a big screen (nevermind what they’ll look like after compression, I’m kind of dreading that) even if they are less likely to be overlooked.
And speaking of conventions, I’m assuming (hehe) I can get away with putting the word “ass” on screen if it only appears once, given the F-bomb I witnessed a few years back. Maybe I’ll play nice and just say “a**.” That might actually be funnier...particularly if the * is not your standard asterisk. (mwehehehehe!!)
I still haven't come up with a title for this AMV. I'm convinced the main reason I've had so many hits with Sephiration Anxiety (given the fact that it's my first AMV and AC, etc.) is because of the title, which only proves my theory that an editor should never shoot themselves in the foot with a stupid, unoriginal, dorky title.

Lipsynching Advent Children is not impossible, it's just not something you can get away with doing badly.

...it's also something I'd like to see done WELL via the usual lipsynching methods. From what I can tell, it's mostly lucking out finding a character saying something that approximately matches the words you're trying to synch to. AC folks move around too much; even if you superimpose the mouths, they wind up at the wrong angle, at the wrong size, etc. Don't even get me started on Sephiroth's hair getting in the way.

Add four hours to whatever it was last time (ha, funny, I actually thought to myself today, "Maybe I'll finish this AMV in under 100 hours." Then I laughed sickly and the universe reverted to normal.)
The Good: I started playing around with my tabloid gimmick yesterday at work, so far it's going well - I actually came up with some stuff that's more amusing than what I had planned (I tend to do this a lot). I'm definitely going to have more fun doing that than making this AMV. See below for why this could blow up in my face, though.
The Bad: I don't like it when I start losing focus on what I want an AMV to be, particularly when the alternatives only seem more attractive because they're easier to pull off. Or because the alternatives are...wait, yes, in a nutshell: easier to pull off. Reminds me how little experience I have with all of this. :(
The Ugly: Rufus Shinra needs to speak TWO MORE BLOODY WORDS and I could have him say "I hear it likes the girls." Arrogant bastard...*mutter mutter mutter*

MY BAD!
2007-10-25 19:50:49
"It's not eligible for AB, though, since there's a newly enacted ban on all dubs for 2008, which I find somewhat laughable, considering an audio track is an audio track and if they're worried about being sued for a movie/TV show/commercial sound clip, they should also be worry about being sued for showing AMVs PERIOD.
I suspect the dub ban is an attempt to eliminate AMV Hell ripoffs, since folks are likely to use non-musical clips in such AMVs and make everyone miserable."
It has been brought to my attention that I was way out of line for saying this (thanks doki :P). The official rules state "You may not use the English dub audio in your video." APOLOGIES - apparently my highly suspicious nature is getting the best of me once again. Hey, I'd rather get something like this wrong than wind up in a car at 2 a.m. with some creepy guy because I ignored that nagging suspicion he wasn't really interested in AMVs, just what was under my skirt. #_#
Jeez, I don't even wear skirts that often. Where the heck did THAT come from??? (btw, I am not a transvestite, or drag queen...or whatever. Just wanted to make this clear)
