  • Testing 2007-11-05 15:14:02 If I put quote marks in my journal title and choose preview, they disappear. I'm not kidding, look up there, no quote marks!

The Good: Things are coming together, at least the first minute and 15 seconds are.

The Bad: Now that I'm getting a look at what the big picture might be, I'm not very happy with what I see (hey, that rhymed...). Namely, my old nemesis, not enough funny sauce, is dogging my every edit. Which brings up the question of how screwball one has to make Advent Children before it's clearly considered a comedy AMV, not a weird action AMV, but not SO screwball that the action elements can't shine through. I mean, where's the cutoff point? I don't want to enter this in a competition and have people think "Ehh...she thinks this is funny? REJECTED! It's not even good enough for the Action category. DOUBLE REJECTION!"

The Ugly: I need to figure out how to get my jokes on screen for more than seven frames or I'm screwed. AE is jumping up and down in the corner, insisting it can solve all my problems, but I'm still trying to ignore it. Maybe next weekend. -_-

Ah, and good news on the "Takeout" front, I FINALLY found the proper version of "Rodeo" so that project is a go once I finish the current round of self-torture. It actually crossed my mind a few times to try and finish both AMVs in time for AB and enter whichever one I think has a better shot. My worst nightmare (ok, just bad dream) would be spending months frantically trying to finish the AC AMV only to wind winding up with something too embarrassing to show at a convention, then go forward with "Takeout" and discover I've got something really nice on my hands.

*waves to Emong and Amo-Chan* :D
  • Did anyone ever make an Advent Children Technique Beat? Do we need one? Probably not. 2007-11-01 21:08:32 AC: Kicked Below the Belt (working title, better than WKWSWKIA)

Look at that, I'm creeping up on the 1/4 mark (theoretically, I can't believe I'll spend less than 100 hours on this AMV).

Nice little landmark tonight, I can watch about 40 seconds of my AMV and not feel my stomach drop through the floor because I have no idea how to fix what's wrong or fill in the gaps. It's getting there. But this made me realize all over again how heavily Advent Children must be manipulated to make it truly comedic...except for two or three seconds here or there, I haven't slopped on the funny sauce and it really shows. It's like, eh, a halfway decent AMV...but definitely not laugh-provoking.

Some people insist lipsyching is inherently funny. I agree, but only in situations where there are no other options for creating humor. Tifa can say "I hear it likes the girls" all she wants, in almost perfect synch, but I think a shot of Loz manhandling her is possibly funnier. We'll see, I guess...I have a feeling I'm going to need a lot of betatesters with keen senses of humor. :/ Volunteers welcome.
