It is indeed always something!

My sister unexpectedly (a.k.a. about a month early) gave birth to my niece this weekend, so my editing plans understandably went a little off-track. Three big changes are about to occur in my life, because of this:
1. My dog, who has been known since she was 8 weeks old as the "Grandogger" and carried proudly in photograph form in my father's wallet (he does not have a photo of me, but he does of my corgi) has been superseded by an actual grandchild in the family. I am looking forward to, about three years from now, asking my father whose picture he has in his wallet. I'm betting on the dog.
2. I have to decide what kind of aunt I want to be. Am I the permissive one? The weird one? The fun one? The one that's most like Mommy? Not sure whether I'm supposed to be strategizing this...
3. Within the next two to three years, I'm going to have to call my sister "Mommy" and my mother "Grandma" in front of this impressionable child. The sister/mommy thing is going to be the toughest, I've had a lot of practice at "Grandma" already thanks to my dog. "Wheeeeeerrrreeee's GRANDMA??!!" *dog runs to my mother*
The 99 Percent
Pre-Edit: Not sure if my math was right last time. Let's call it 69 hours at this point.

I preliminarily walked through two DVDs worth of episodes yesterday and was fairly pleased by what I found. At this point I'm just trying to solidify some ideas and figure out the best way for the means to achieve my end. This is the first time I've ever started working on a video I wasn't totally head-over-heals into and been more encouraged after starting it than discouraged, so maybe this thing will actually happen.

uh oh...I don't need this kind of distraction right now...

Oh yeah...I forgot about that. How could I have forgotten about THAT?? Ok, I'm going to AB! Yay! Just the excuse I needed. :D THANKS!
*scratches head* Mostly this is about getting my shit together, as you put it. I'm getting too old for this stuff, so I kind of need some other reason to go than the con itself. The AMV contest might sidetrack my attention the entire weekend, if I've got a video entered, but at least it keeps my mind off the fact that I should have cosplayed Hagi from Blood+ when I still fit into my gorgeous and perfect-for-the-part gray suit with tails. Seriously, though...AB is what really got me into AMV editing, and I always feel like I've not given it my best shot if I don't have a video to enter. We'll see what happens this year. I'm making it a priority to try working on it this weekend. I will know pretty fast if it's going to work out.
In other news:
Hehe...I was in the grocery store tonight and saw a Hostess snack stand, it was stripped almost bare, and I felt this sudden urge to snatch up one of the remaining packs of Twinkies and put it in the freezer so I could try and sell it on whatever passes for eBay 40 years from now. I loathe Twinkies, so it would be quite safe from me. Now Yodels...that's another matter. I can (and have) eaten a whole box of those wonderful things.

I won't be going to AB next year unless I have a video in the contest, so I'd better get to work. This is the latest I've ever started an AMV for that con, so I'm predicting right now that I will not have anything done, most likely because I literally did not have ANYTHING done.
Title: ?? Pink Slip, The 99 Percent...um...check back with me in three months.
Pre-Edit: 66
Eight hours arranging AVS script to my liking, 56 hours to process four DVDs...ok my computer did most of it, but still, I am filtering the heck out of this footage to get it cleaned up as best I can ahead of time. Yes yes, I know, this isn't always the finest tactic, but this is old stuff and I'm not doing anything terribly violent to it at this time, it's just taking a long time to process. Fortunately it's done now. I ran out of room on my extra HD, though, and finally broke down and bought a 1.5 TB drive to offload some stuff on.
Halfway through this process, I realized I passed up a golden opportunity to get a better PC by selling mine to my mother, who needs a new one and just bought one from Dell with my assistance. ARGH!

I'm going at this AMV differently than my others, in that I did not clip and rip, but am going to try and edit with full DVD's worth of footage by just making clips in Premiere. I have a hard time handling footage from long series, and this one's particularly bad in that there is just so MUCH great footage. I actually deliberately avoided re-watching the series so that I can go at it fresh. Not sure how long it's going to take Premiere to crash and burn, doing it this way. I've never fed it 160GB worth of files in one project before, but you'd think it would be able to handle that. :|
The Good: Hey, at least I'm making an effort. And it's not AC! Yay me! But I kind of want to fall back on that, as horrible as that fate would be, it's just so easy...in an eye-gouging, why-the-hell-did-I-subject-myself-to-this sort of way. No way I'd be done by AB if I went that route.
The Bad: I have a super-simple, non-esoteric concept for this AMV, but it just feels so odd to be doing such a thing. Not a total cop-out, really, just...concept isn't going to save this thing when my editing falls flat. I don't edit like it's "cool" to edit right now (wait, are kids even saying "cool" these days??) and it's going to show. Fortunately, I firmly believe that old-school editing is just fine if handled right.
The Ugly: Istiv's The Race is somewhat of an inspiration for the editing style I'd like to use in this AMV. I don't know at this time if what I've got planned will actually work, but if it does I will plainly state that I got the idea from his video. It wouldn't be the first time someone else's pioneering work has provided creative fodder for my own, but at least I'm always seeking to one-up the original. Wait, is that admirable....?
Mmm, actually, the really "ugly" thing is that there is another AMV I would love to be able to make, but it's very artsy and "out there" and full of action sequences, which give me panic attacks to create. It is not inspired by the inimitable Zac Bertschy's comment that he'd never seen an AMV that actually conveyed some kind of deep message (clearly he needs to watch more stuff), however - in a perfect world - I would personally send it to him in an attempt to rectify that situation. *sigh* If I get mad enough at this AMV, perhaps I'll attempt that one and fail.

I'd love to have seen this...

Comment Re: 'Bustin
I watched this at the AMV Wars at Youmacon. There I watched the AMV, and there was suddenly a Ghost Buster and a Stay Puft Marshmellow Man fighting each other in the front of the room~! It was amazing~!
And where was Cloud or Sephiroth while all this was going on?! What a great cosplay skit, eh?
