/me walks around in a daze again
2008-03-23 16:03:13
About 50% of this is because I am sick. Quite sick. I started to get sick Friday at Anime Boston, it was worse yesterday and today I'm sicker.
The other 50% is because I WON BEST CONCEPT AT ANIME BOSTON WITH 'BUSTIN!
What the HELL is this trophy doing sitting on my desk? This doesn't belong here. I'm the one who hung around here for over four years, unable to FINISH an AMV. What the HELL is that trophy doing in my possession? This must be someone else's living room.
Other than the fact that I am completely - well almost - dead right now and have lots and lots to say - of course - before I hit the mattress for an 18-hour nap (I got a total of 12 hours of sleep over the past three days, that's a record for me at AB, and not ONE 7-layer bar was consumed!!) I'm going to demonstrate how fried I am by being unable to finish my own sentence coherently because I don't remember what I was going to say.
Oh yeah. Good competition this year, I still feel 2006 was the best year ever (notwithstanding this year's comedy lineup, which was exceptional and which I am ever so amazed to have been a part of). More news and commentary tomorrow when I hopefully will feel better and stop hallucinating.

Um, less than 48 hours?

I just know I'm going to wind up subsisting on Starbucks coffee and 7-layer bars while I'm at Anime Boston, just like I always do. *sigh* I am soooo weak!! Two years ago the woman working at the counter all weekend actually got the point, on Saturday night, that she knew exactly what I was going to order when I showed up.
Here's hoping 'Bustin kicks some major ass, because that's exactly what it was made to do - kick ass at Anime Boston. *thumbs up* I'm quite pleased (duh), but in no small part because it was designed SPECIFICALLY to be shown on the big screen at a convention - no way I was going to pass up the chance to exploit that situation! Yes, the text on the tabloids is difficult to read on a PC monitor, but you know what's going to happen when it's projected 15' high? YEAH, that's RIGHT!
It's going to get all fuzzy!
No, well ok maybe it will a bit, but I did some things with all the graphics that were way, way overkill for monitor viewing precisely because monitor-level designs weren't going to cut it on a big screen. Now I get to see if my behind-the-scenes preventative fuzz measures actually worked!! Mweeheehee!
...and whether my MPEG-2 file implodes and ruins everything...I keep forgetting about that. There's a very good possibility my AMV will come up on screen and everyone will hear a horrified shriek from the balcony area as I realize they're going to see 'Bustin a la blow torch.
This is excited Emo Hussy signing off for three days! See you at AB!* :D:D:D:D:D
*in a highly caffeinated state and just as "Drift."

MSAMAMV
Pre-Edit: 6
Edit: 2/10
I'm not going to start adding new hours until after I've passed the 10 hour point.
So yah, three more days until sleep deprivation begins to set in courtesy of Anime Boston. Whenever I think about it, I start to feel exhausted. Doesn't help my Friday/Saturday AMV competition plans all got shot to hell. ugh...right now, honestly, I just want this whole thing to be over with. I've been pretty much counting down to this weekend for over six months now and I am TIRED.
In any case, I am really looking forward to the AMV competition this year, by all accounts it's going to be awesome. There are a lot of AMVs which are exceptional in a LOT of different ways entered, so it's going to be fascinating to see what happens. Hopefully this will start to clear up the debate about whether or not 'Bustin is in fact a decent AMV, because right now folks seem to be split pretty well into more than decent/barely decent camps.
heh, I feel kind of like a proud parent - "You go out there and do your best, 'Bustin, make Momma proud! Don't pay any attention to what all the other kids are saying, you're special to ME." LOL

Here we go again

My Song Ate My AMV (working title) aka MSAMAMV b/c it's easier to type
Pre-edit: Doesn't count, already done for 'Bustin
Edit: Hard to calculate. I've already laid out the footage, however it all has to be redone from scratch due to the unfortunate effects of reformatting one's hard drive. I'm therefore going to start the clock at 10 hours. This means, ladies and gentlemen, that I non-technically made a 1:30 minute AMV in 10 hours. OH THE HORROR
The Good: Learning from my mistakes with 'Bustin, I am taking my "Relax" FF7FM track to the next level. I myself don't even know how high this level is, however, because it can go pretty high; the end result will mostly depend on how much time I want to spend on it, which is not a lot. A month and a half, tops. It's extremely helpful that in a generic sense this AMV is 95% done. Adding in the next level of effects and funny sauce (it is my goal to have Funny Sauce become a registered trademark of Drift-made AMVs) is what's going to take awhile.
The Bad: Actually, what's going to take awhile is figuring out what the heck is wrong with my audio editing capabilities. I have a whole bunch of songs sitting here, ready to go, and innocently assumed that I'd - for once in my life - be able to sit down and just CASUALLY start an AMV project without it all going to hell. So much for that. First I couldn't slice and dice my audio track for MSAMAMV because the tracks wouldn't play at the same level (not volume, something else not good). Then BeSweet went into seizures. So I had to reinstall the entire AMVapp. Still don't know if that fixed the problem. I'm kind of scared to test it out.
The Ugly: /me deletes unnecessary rhetoric
Epilogue: Quite honestly...and this is Emo Hussy speaking here...I'm going to get a certain amount of twisted pleasure out of being beaten by dokool's (reportedly) earth-shattering entry in Anime Boston's AMV contest. If I'm going to get beaten by something like that, then at least I get a small claim to fame as the person whom he thoroughly trounced. I'm sure that will help boost his ego at least a little. heheh

I really wish this wasn't true:

They’re running Anime Boston’s Saturday AMV competition at 8 a.m.
I’d like to know what the rational was behind moving one of the convention’s biggest events, nevermind one of the biggest events on Saturday, nevermind that particular event’s biggest showing, to an awful time like THAT. Registration doesn’t even open until 8 a.m. Saturday morning! This basically means that if you’re planning on coming to AB and registering Saturday at the door, you are not going to get to see the AMV competition. I know for a lot of people that’s the first thing on their schedule that day – they’re planning on it. It’s always been held a decent hour later in the morning and it’s traditionally been the most well attended of the competition showings FOR THAT REASON.
OMG…I can pretty much guarantee that this will be a humongous entry under the list of complaints for 2008. I know I’d be ready to kill someone if the main event I’d planned on enjoying was scheduled in such a way that there was no possible way for me to attend – sounds like they’re not going to let people trickle in throughout the competition, so unless you’re a pre-registered convention attendee or get a full weekend pass on Friday, you can’t watch the AMV competition AT ALL.
And they haven’t even formally announced this radical change in schedule, so there’s literally going to be thousands of people on Saturday who get completely screwed over, because they’re not going to find out until they GET to the con (and register) that it’s been moved up to 8 a.m.!! This is just about the most ridiculous thing I can imagine NOT telling people about the con (aside from maybe moving the Masquerade to 8 a.m. Sunday morning without informing anyone – seems like the Masqu. is still on for Saturday evening as usual, though…but who knows!).
Jeez people, if you must reschedule one of the competition’s showings, reschedule the one that has LESSER attendance, not the one that is the big draw! And if it absolutely, positively can’t fit in the main events room without conflicting with another huge event, MOVE IT SOMEWHERE ELSE. Just open up the connected ballrooms and kick out the “How to be a Ninja” and “Anime for Dummies” panels!
Ughhh…this means my Friday night has been swallowed up by the AMV competition, which I was not planning on attending until Saturday – no way I can get up in time to make it to an 8 a.m. show, though. Not without seriously compromising my mental stability…I may be taking part in an AMV critique session later that night and I don’t want to be sitting there half comatose from lack of sleep OR wired to the max on coffee. I can’t be held responsible for what I might say about someone’s AMV if that happens. : Eh? AMVs? What’re those…oh yeah, those things that got shown at 8 a.m. this morning…*zonks out*
