So once again ‘Bustin failed to win a category award, but considering the comedy AMVs it’s been up against, that doesn’t surprise me too much. It did, however, win the Technical Award at Sakura-Con.
WHAT????????? The AMV I get slammed for in the editing department won a TECHNICAL AWARD???
Apparently this is proof positive that you don’t need very much technical skill to win a technical award… @_@ What I’m kind of guessing happened, since I don’t know the entire field of competitors at Sakura-Con, was that there were no other AMVs with heavy duty “extras” (I hesitate to call them effects, since 90% of mine aren’t effects). Still…jeez, it’s kind of disturbing that something like ‘Bustin can win a tech award. I’m perpetually trying to convince non-editors that it’s not really all that difficult, what I did, but this award blows my credibility right out of the water!
Heh, actually, this kind of works out well. Two major components of my AMV – concept and editing - have been put to the test and passed. Even better, though, people are really enjoying ‘Bustin. They really are. It’s really, really AWESOME when you make an AMV that is just flat out supposed to be a fun experience and it’s doing exactly what you wanted it to do.

MSAMAMV

Edit: 22
I think I said a little while ago I didn't want to spend more than a month and a half on this AMV. One could say it took me over eight months, but that's only because I didn't work on it for months .25-7.75. In any case, it's about officially done. Just have to fix a few things and then
my d og just tried to jump in my lap and failed
she's bonking me wit h her nose and I ant type
...and then stick the two halves together, make some titles, compress it and upload it theoretically next weekend. I did decide to make it a two-part AMV...part 1 is what it could have been, part 2 is what actually happened. I personally find it quite disturbing, but then again, I'm the one who got clotheslined. I don't know that other people will realize how horribly implosive this AMV truly is, you kind of had to experience it first hand, I guess. : oh well, this isn't the first time or the last time my AMV concepts go a little off the beaten track.
Still having trouble with a title, My Song Ate My AMV not only gives the whole thing away, it's a little too pretentious. Other options are Lemonade or LaZer BeamZ (or just Laser Beams). We'll see. I would like to make a little lemon graphic for it - sort of like my 'Bustin symbol...hmm...

MSAMAMV
Pre-Edit: 6
Edit: 17
The count for this AMV is getting off...I'm not paying very much attention to exactly what I'm doing with it. I should start a total-time-spent-making-AMVs-O-meter instead. That would REALLY scare people.
So this...oddball of an AMV is right now non-technically done. I have to rip out a lot of the excessive eye candy I was just fooling around with because it's just silly and then decide whether to go 100% overboard and make it abundantly clear this entire project was just completely and totally me messing around. I did NOT mess around with my other two AMVs, so right there I'm coming at this from an entirely different perspective.
The problem: To make my point about how badly this song took over - concept-wise - you kind of have to go into the viewing experience assuming what you see is what you get. Anyone who's used to keeping one eye on the timecode, however, is going to figure out REAL fast that something's "up", nevermind from the title of the AMV itself, of course. -_-
The solution: To give people the proper MSAMAMV treatment, I could run the AMV twice - first in normal mode and then in "But here's what REALLY happened" mode. I think it's short enough to get away with that, but still...I'm going to have to go to extreme lengths to make mode #2 worth watching. I also wonder if people WON'T believe the song blew up in my face that badly (despite the fact that it literally does) and be thinking to themselves, "Yeah, so? She should have just kept working."
But I don't wanna! Please just let me have fun making an AMV for a change. Please?
Hmm, maybe this will turn into a job for beta testers. I possibly have access to a file sharing site, now. Hmmm...must research further!

YouTube strikes again
2008-03-28 17:45:48
Whoever said "Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery" never dreamed such a thing as YT would ever exist to complicate the matter.
I've calmed down now. People grabbed 'Bustin and tossed it to the hungry mobs on YouTube before I could blink twice. I'll deal with them later, I guess - thank you very much for liking my video so much that you took it upon yourself to upload it, but now I have to look like the bad guy because me - the creator - would like people visiting MY video on MY channel rather than MY video on someone else's channel that doesn't even link to AMV.org.
But it's far, far worse. In my hyper-paranoid search for 'Bustin on the noobtoob - a place I only ever go unless forced kicking and screaming, in no small part because of my dial-up connection - I also ran across the following:
1. Other people's AC+GB AMVs. Ok, so apparently I'm not the only one who ever came up with the idea. Not too shocking, given the massive number of "AMVs" on YT. At this point, however, the only thing I can say to defend the fact that I had NO idea anyone else had ever done this is that I should have been a little smarter and researched the matter on YT before assuming 'Bustin was going to be the first of its kind. *shrug* Someone wants to challenge me, go ahead. You think I keep lengthy notes in this journal for my own amusement? No - it's evidence of my creative thought process.
2. There's actually a GB AC AMV on YT that pulls a tabloid stunt rather like mine except very much inferior. Apparently it was made before mine was. It's rather interesting, because after my initial "HEY they ripped off 'BUSTIN" kneejerk reaction (prior to my seeing the date on it and backpedaling), I got the distinct impression that had I seen that AMV I would have been heavily turned OFF the tabloid concept... So, again, all I can say is that I didn't rip off anyone else's AMV, 'Bustin was all me me me me, and if someone wants to debate me on the matter they can save their breath because I know the truth and they don't, otherwise they wouldn't be debating it.
Nice job, Drift, if you'd just kept your mouth shut...
Hey. Maybe what...25-50 people regularly read this journal? I doubt you (yes you) expect me to keep my mouth shut about something like this if it did come to my attention.
But that was just stupid, pointing out that someone could challenge your AMV's originality b/c of what's on YouTube. You're inviting it.
Look at that statement. There is so much CRAP on YT that unless you go looking for something, the chances are very slim you're going to find it. So I'd never FIND an AC+GB AMV there unless I deliberately went hunting (like I did today) in which case the concept would already have had to be in my mind! It never even occurred to me to check YT for that kind of AMV because to me, YT almost doesn't exist and most certainly not as a place for AMVs I need to be paying attention to. The only AMVs I'm going to worry about are those right here on the ORG.
The day someone honestly thinks they can get away with saying I ripped off someone else's AMV that was on YT is the day I simply raise one eyebrow, smile a little and say: "You can't prove that and there are thousands of blatantly obvious cases of AMV ripoffs that really need your attention, so please stop wasting your time and go harass the real criminals."

Here's a rare event, me promoting an AMV I "found"!! http://www.animemusicvideos.org/members/members_videoinfo.php?vid_id=156961
HEY KIO, HERE I COME!
*cough* And I say again, it is really unpleasant to go back to editing your own project after watching someone else's awesome AMV. Like, jeez...why do I even try? I'll never be able to do that. :(
I need someone to tell me that, preferably someone who I don't like, because then I will dig in my heels and say "OH YEAH??? WATCH ME!!" Worked with 'Bustin, didn't it? Except in that case, it was only partly someone else saying I couldn't do it, the rest of it was ME saying I couldn't.
*sigh*
This is Emo Hussy, going back to editing her very sub-par, unglorious, twisted wreck of an endeavor that was her unofficial second AMV but now is technically her third. :( Talk about a downer.
