Starting over from scratch. Again. I think this makes six times with this particular series.

So let's see, what has happened lately? Oh yes, to recap, all my hoarded footage I've had for years was thrown out about three weeks ago, when I bit the bullet and expunged dozens and dozens of discs from my collection b/c I was tired of moving them and never using them. This necessitated renting - for the sixth time, as I figure it - from Netflix the series discs so I can rip them and re-hoard the footage I need.
So, ok, I've done this six times now. I should know exactly what I'm doing, right? Wrong. After quickly rewriting an AVS script to clean it all up a bit, VirtualDub takes 14 to 17 hours per disc to cough up an AVI file. So there goes a few days down the drain. This weekend I go into Premiere to start making subclips and run across some old, dreaded friends: the planets http://goo.gl/u1D62.
This shouldn't look right to anyone, and I've seen it five times before. This time was no different, I had a brief tantrum and then spent about two hours on Saturday trying to figure out what's wrong with my project file, my AVI file, my .AVS file, my .d2v file, my VOB file...you get the picture. At the end of the day, I still don't know what's wrong, but I'm blaming it on something the original encoders did - this is how it looks on the DVDs themselves: Planet Squishedness. It's not right, but it's the way it is. Other scenes with purported perfect circles look ok, but not this one. Bastards.
So I gave up and let it be, making a mental note to try and avoid using this scene in my video. -_-
Oh, YES!! And today I got my next three discs from Netflix, and one of them is almost completely cracked in half, which I somehow missed when I put it in my CD tray. So there's another delay.
And I need to come up with a title for this thing...

Or not

Because after my move, I can't find my discs of ripped footage and have concluded with horror that they were among a large quantity I threw out in an attempt to unclutter my footage-for-AMVs-that-will-probably-never-be collection. *throws things* The AMV gods are are STILL out there playing their horrid little jokes on me!
Netflix DVD rentals to the rescue. Still, there goes one weekend/10 hours of editing that might have been. -_-

Let's do this.

The Good: Well, this morning I was bit by the "Damnit, am I an AMV editor or not?" bug and while wracking my brain for AMV concepts, popped in a song I'd targeted years ago for an AMV. I still got that giddy feeling listening to it, so that's that's my personal signal to proceed before that feeling goes away.
The Bad: I tinkered with this video for a few hours back in the day, and while it worked beautifully for about the first 34 seconds, I soon stumbled over my habit of being a total control freak with my editing. I have to be able to just go with the flow (or at least make it LOOK like I'm just going with the flow). What's screwy is that, with my normal graphic design work, I am very much about going with the flow and just kind of tightening up a design as I go along. This is a bad thing, in most cases, but with AMVing it probably would HELP...it just doesn't happen, though. :(
The Ugly: SIX WEEKS UNTIL THE ANIME BOSTON DEADLINE *runs around screaming in horror* The con isn't until Memorial Day weekend, WHHHYYYYYY is the deadline so far in advance when it's never been that advanced before in my memory?? Wait, April 1 is April Fool's Day...might we hope that this deadline is a joke!? :D Well, five hours a day each Saturday and Sunday from now 'til then gives me 60 hours of time. Not sure that will be enough, but there shouldn't be any super fancy effects work in this so...
p.s. New apartment is working out pretty good. My office is kind of a small space, but I look forward to christening it with AMV work. :D

Inspiration strikes in unusual ways
2013-02-10 08:18:49
People ask me for ideas, I come up with lots, then tell them they can't use them b/c I thought of them first! LOL j/k whatever I share is up for grabs, certainly. :D
Yah, so this iffy blizzard has delayed my plans to move to a new apartment by a few days. Final heave ho is tomorrow, and of course now there's another storm with freezing rain and sleet that's going to slam us. Aside from dangerous driving conditions, there's the fact that my furniture will be ruined if it gets wet, so everything's going to have to be covered with tarps on the short run to and from the truck. ARGH!! This is payback for two moves ago in mid-January, when we were having severe, cold weather and the day I moved was the January thaw - it was 50-degrees and sunny that day.
Diet is going so-so. According to my scale I have lost 15 lbs in four weeks. Unfortunately, my rate of loss has ground to a halt with 10 more coveted lbs. to go before I can fit back into my Blood+ Haji faux tux I don't have anymore because I couldn't get it into. I WARNED them this would happen, and I was RIGHT! There is something very wrong with my metabolism. I'm eating 800-1,000 calories a day, and my body has either decided this is all the energy it needs or gone into starvation mode. Either way, I'm stalled out. Grrrr.
I'm 5'7', btw. Currently 159 lbs. Goal is 147, but I'd take 150. hee hee, one of my favorite moments about eight years ago was asking a male peer (at work) who expressed doubt in my diet attempts saying "I don't think you look like you need to lose weight."
"How much do you think I weigh?!" I gleefully shot back, moving out from behind my desk and turning this way and that.
A pained look of "Oh shit, a woman just asked me something I thought they never asked" crossed his face, traveling down his frame in a wave of fear. I felt bad. Briefly.
"162!!" I crowed.
He blanched. Then cringed because he realized he'd done that "out loud." What could I do besides chuckle at his discomfiture?
Perhaps this is why I've never dated much. Men have a hard time with women who will share their age and weight and make fun of them in underhanded ways. I think it's probably this last part which is primarily to blame. ^_^ Ah, for a boyfriend who can take my harassment and laugh along with me....I only am cruel to those I love.
What the hell? Is all this Valentine's Day mushiness getting to me? Must be! Funny, my boyfriends have always been terrible at the VD stuff, which always ticked me off to no end.

I need some inspiration - PLEASE HELP

Anyone have any ideas for AMVs that they think I'd be good at making? Send them my way!!! I do my best when challenged to get creative.
p.s. Preferably something I can complete in 100 hours or less. :|
