JOURNAL: DriftRoot (Lauren C.)

  • *mutter* 2008-04-16 19:32:10 I got home today, all happy because I think I figured out how to approach my uber-ambitious (for me) Gankutsuou AMV, happily dig out my hoarded DVD copies of the discs I ripped about six months ago and...

...watched interesting corrupted files play back on every single disc.

THIS is why I say the AMV gods are out to get me. This kind of stuff happens to me all the time, never fails, Someone Up There (or Down There) does not want me making AMVs. So now I get to order all those discs and re-rip the entire series all over again, at the same time eyeing my large collection of other AMV stuff (clips, DVDs, original artwork, you name it) also hoarded on discs and wondering with a sinking feeling if it's all gone bad as well.

Yeah so, anyways...my tentative plans to attend ACEN are null and void because my sister is graduating from grad school that weekend (drat her, how come I have to be the creative artsy one who doesn't get paid good money, and she just slaves away for the health insurance industry making five times as much as I do??). I've got to go and harass her by pointing out that I still hold more degrees and have spent more time in college than her, master's degree or no! The way I look at it, if having a master's degree would make me more employable/better paid, then yay that's for me. But it won't, not in my field, anyways. I've got to succeed by the seat of my own pants, which is really depressing because I haven't had the opportunities other graphic designers have so I'm waaayyy behind...on the other hand, I've managed to haul myself into the ranks of graphic designers without those opportunities, which suggests that I've got some kind of good thing going here. :|

Let's just hope my company doesn't decide that, if it can't figure out what its marketing department DOES, it probably doesn't need one. Can you imagine that? A billion-dollar company that doesn't understand what the role of marketing is. Unbelievable. Doesn't give me a warm fuzzy feeling.
  • SMOTHER...NOT 2008-04-15 10:29:24 Apparently 'Bustin lost Fan Favorite at Tekko by one vote. MWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

I wonder what would have happened if there'd been a tie. @_@
  • wheee!! Tekkoshocon 2008-04-14 18:50:10 mmm, yes, so YEAH WOOOOO!!! on all accounts. :D 'Bustin received its first and potentially only audience award, so now I can say that it won Best Comedy somewhere. In addition, it won Best of Show, which in the case of Tekko (this year) is a Judge's Award, not an audience award (hence the smothering courtesy of Serenade, which got the audience's vote for "Best of Show"). So I'm pretty much "done" at this point - 'Bustin is already at one more big competition waiting in line to find out if it's going to be a finalist, but after that it won't be leaving the house anymore. I've had my moment(s) in the spotlight...this has all been absolutely incredible and I don't need dozens of con participations to be any happier than I already am. ^_^

I'm starting to get some crazed commentary on My Song Ate My AMV...aside from one QC which I can't tell if it's serious or not, the verdict on it is becoming even MORE extreme...worse than Sephiration Anxiety ever was. Maybe 'cause I didn't mess up the AR so people have to dig a little deeper to figure out if they like it or not? Mebbe. Either way, I'm compiling quite a collection of love them or hate them AMVs. ^_^

YAH!! So, onto my next project: Excel Saga! This is going way, wayyy back to one of my very first AMVs. Says something, I think, that it's still got potential over five years later. Like 'Bustin, I KNOW this can be a great AMV...it just remains to be seen whether I can live up to my own concept. And yes, this is me desperately trying to avoid the big Gankutsuou drama AMV I want to make...
  • 2008-04-14 10:25:43 dokool would like me to point out that, according to rumor, his AMV won Fan Favorite at Tekkoshocon and that it did therefore smother mine.

    :P
  • 2008-04-14 08:00:47 Well, looks like I'm "done." 'Bustin was awarded - according to rumor - Best Comedy and Best of Show at Tekkoshocon. If so, there's my audience awards. *thumbs up* to the people out in PA! Thank you!!

I must say, I'm slightly relieved dokool's AMV didn't smother mine like it almost did before. LOL As far as I'm concerned (and probably as he's concerned) it did beat out mine at AB, though, so the situation isn't as off-kilter as it looks at first glance. ^_^
