Oh...drat
2008-04-21 10:22:23
I realized last night that one of the two competitions my AMV is waiting in line for was sent a file made to the specs of a different competition. Well, there's one contest I won't be making the finals in. -_-
I wonder if I'll get a regretful message like "Your entry was not made to the proper specs, RTFM next time." I did, I just got my FMs mixed up. It's too late to send them a proper file, too... I did get a receipt confirmation, though, maybe they didn't notice it wasn't right? Should I tell them? :( You'd think if it was unacceptable, but still had a shot at the finals, they'd contact me...I've seen other contests do that...well, maybe I'm not in the running for the finals so that's why there's all this deafening silence.
Fingernails. Gone.

Computer abuse

I realize it's very dangerous to tell your computer what you really think of it, but...
New computer: your shiny and fast and high-tech, but I like my old computer better. I could check my e-mail, I could mess around with files and settings without being yelled at every two seconds, I could even install new hardware. What can you do? Give me a handful of new screensavers? Oh yes, you did encode an MPEG-2 in one-tenth of the time it took my old computer...but it took you three tries, didn't it? Yeah, I thought so.
*MASSIVE SIGH* If I had a decent Internet connection, I'd rip Vista right out of here and keep plugging away with XP. -_- It's like I don't KNOW my own computer anymore, there's all kinds of unpleasant, mysterious things going on that I'm like "erm...whazzat? Heh? Can I turn it off? How? No? Please? PLEASE?"
It's like my computer is giving me this massive "Talk to the mouse, 'cause the hard drive don't want to hear it" crap. You better believe I'm going to try and crush its will as soon as I get all my programs installed!!

Journal abuse

So here I am, finally online via my new computer. It's not looking good, though. My dial-up connection is going spastic about the situation - I can get online maybe one out of every 10 tries (this would be one of 30), half my Windows updates are failures and won't even bother themselves to try and redownload. WMP thinks it can only play about the first third of any song in my library, my e-mail is all screwed up, I barely managed to get AE and Premiere installed - I haven't even tested them yet because I'm not up for a war -the AMVapp wouldn't install properly AND...
...it's 76 degrees outside in the mountains of Vermont (it wasn't until mid-June last year that that happened, it's currently mid-April) and I'm stuck INSIDE at this computer because I have ample evidence that it requires babysitting.
I HATE BABYSITTING.
I think I'm going to go outside and build myself a garden shed, now. Yeah.

*does the new computer dance*

My new PC arrived last night – Dell is really going overboard in terms of their packaging and promotional materials. Grunge vector artwork on the box? Pleather padfolio for the user’s manual, XPS-emblazoned cable wraps and drawstring bag for XPS earphones (with pen holder)? Protective plastic sheeting? FAUX CHROME-EDGED MOUSE PAD??
Good grief, I unwrapped this thing and my living room took on that new car smell. @_@
Most people, when they get a new computer, are hot-to-trot to fire it up and play around. Me? I dig it out of the box and immediately crack open the case to see what’s inside. I had a feeling I was going to be disappointed, and in that respect I wasn’t…what a mess. And CHEAP!! I won’t be dropping this computer from short heights and living to joke about it (like I can with my old PC). I’m even kind of scared to use the DVD drive…I could probably break off the tray with one finger. Darn good thing I’ve got four extras hanging around, because I can’t believe it’s going to last long. I also suspect a man whose wife does all the housework designed the case – this patent-leather-type black plastic attracts dust, fingerprints, cat hair, dog hair, scratches, scuffs and buffs like crazy and I am NOT going to take Windex to my PC every day just to keep it high-gloss. -_-
I can’t WAIT to fire up all my software and watch what happens. Yes, I’ve already braced myself for something to go horribly wrong, but at the same time I’m quivering in anticipation. I’m going from a single processor, 60GB HD, 1GHZ system to a quad core, 320GB HD, 4 GHZ system. Wheeee!!!! I am actually looking forward to seeing what it takes to bog down this machine…maybe I’ll run out of stuff to throw at it? Nah…
Hehe, it’s funny, I’ve been using Adobe software for a long time now and it surprised me to see that Microsoft implemented a lot of the same sorts of accessibillity options. I expected to be creeped out by Vista, but it’s kind of mimicking the programs I use every day so it’s not that bad. Now I’ve just got to sort through and uninstall all the fluff programs they tried to force down my throat…

UToob rant #3
2008-04-17 10:26:39
So I’ve been wondering off and on lately what’s up with my ‘Bustin YouTube channel (makes me cringe just typing that, quite honestly, because I’d rather not have to even think about it or – even better – that YT didn’t exist). Hits are not what they should be and all that - yes, I got clotheslined by a few individuals who posted the video before I could, but still… I thought I’d cleaned up the place and gotten rid of all the copies floating around except mine. WRONG…there’s some rotten, rotten person who was filming the AMVs at Anime Boston who’s got hacked up versions of a bunch of them posted. They didn’t even get the title of the award ‘Bustin won right…did you know AB has an Editor’s Choice award? No? Me neither, but apparently I won it!
It’s not just my AMV, either, they’ve got a WHOLE bunch of other people’s. I’m fairly sure asking this individual to remove my AMV is not going to work, I can’t believe no one else has asked them to remove their OTHER swiped footage after all, so I guess I’ll flag the heck out of it. It’s quite difficult to claim copyright infringement, however, when the topic at hand is an AMV. This is when I wish YT was more like an MMORPG – then there would be some way for the unhappy folks to band together and overthrow the oppressive members of society who are making life miserable for everyone else. Unfortunately, it seems to be very difficult to flex any kind of moral muscle whatsoever on YT, which is a huge red flag that it’s a den of vice and depravity.
On a totally unrelated note...I think I'm going to demonstrate that I'm a hypocrite. We'll see how that pans out. It's important to go into these things embracing the knowledge that one's moral compass not rock-steady. I am not a proponent of self-delusion, although obviously I have no problem trying to delude others, but it probably will come back to bite me. :|
