Confessions of a Wanna-Be [Emo Hussy] AMV Editor
2008-07-04 00:02:54
I feel like I'm about to throw up...AX's screening is starting soon, I think. Time zone thingy messes me up. Either that or I'm feeling ill because of the hideous amount of food I've been eating all week.
*paces* This is so ridiculous...why am I nervous? Er...because the idea of thousands of people staring blank-faced at my AMV, not being entertained by it whatsoever, is scary? In a way now I'm glad I didn't go to AX...if my AMV gets a bad reception, I won't be there to see it.
I don't really care at the moment about the argument that thus far that hasn't (as far as I know) happened yet (to that extent). I'm just annoyed because someone talked me into entering AX after I said I was through with all this competition stuff. And he wasn't even trying very hard. -_- 'course I didn't put up much of a fight, either...
heh, on the other hand, I have no reservations about saying that 'Bustin in its entirety is kind of his fault...when I'd get really bogged down and depressed about my progress, I'd just remember how many years dokool spent telling me that I was an overly ambitious, ignorant wanna-be AMV editor who'd never amount to anything (I exaggerate, but just a bit) amd I'd scrape together the determination to keep slogging away at my AMV. I suppose one could say it's a good thing he kind of got on my nerves. hehehe But not too much on my nerves, otherwise I'd have given up quite a long time ago. I still consider myself an overly ambitious wanna-be AMV editor, just not an ignorant one. I've learned so much!! Yeah, I've got tons more to learn and much of that I never will learn...but ignorant? I prefer the word "novice."
I don't regret too much that I entered AX, though it's actually the only contest I entered knowing I had a decent shot at making it to the big screen, Is that bad? I don't know...would the contest coordinators have preferred I'd NOT entered my AMV? It's their call, at the end of the day. I just wish I'd approached this whole AMV contest situation differently. I didn't know I'd even be able to make it to the finals anywhere when this all started...and then everything sort of snowballed on me. It won't happen again, I guarantee it. :(
This is Emo Hussy, signing off!!

Can i play?

Guess which one is false:
A. Bodily Harm
1. I once dropped a 50 lb vice on my knee, resulting in a scar so big that people think t's from surgery of some kind.
2. I've never broken a bone in my body.
3. I have three tattoos.
B. AMVs
1. I spent over 100 hours on my first AMV.
2. I spent over 200 hours on my second AMV.
3. I spent over 2,000 hours on AMVs that will never see the light of day.
C. Weird Stuff
1. I once had a friend drink a harmful herbal potion because I wanted to see what would happen.
2.I swipe coasters from restaurants and bars because I'm too cheap to go out and buy my own.
3. I've skinned chipmunks for their pelts.
A: #2 - Worst I ever did was sprain my wrist, although I supposed having the vertebrae in my neck lock up is more serious. Technically speaking, however, my "tattoos" are merely the remnants of coal which became embedded in my knee (same one as the scarred knee) after an unfortunate fall in the driveway 23 years ago.
B. #3 - The tally is probably closer to 700 hours
C. #2- I'm not THAT cheap.
What? The chipmunks? They didn't turn out very well. Too delicate. Hrm? Herbal potion? My friend experienced merely a burning sensation in her eyes, which is good because if she'd gone blind I'd have been in deep trouble.
I really wish I had my computer with me...I'm actually motived to do some editing (on XII no less) but I've got nothing to work with. Since I've had the luxury of being able to download AMVs while on vacation, I've gotten a bit inspired to tackle that monstrosity again. I think I'm just going to have to grab my footage, throw it all in the air and see where it lands. And, if I have to re-rip footage for the romance/drama thingy (which I've really got to get a title for), then maybe I can scrounge for more stuff for XII, which is going to require a hideous amount of footage. Gankutsuou, I've found, is kind of bare bones.

Vacation: Day 2 & 3
2008-06-30 22:49:39
My dog still can catch crabs underwater, a feat made all the more entertaining when I'M underwater, watching her through my snorkel mask. She's not too keen on horseshoe crabs, though, not even after I dragged the 20lb prehistoric crustacean out of the water just for her benefit. Talk about ungrateful. I also suffered several jellyfish stings.
So far I've spent about $100 on food and $70 on clothes. And I'm only on day three? Yikes...
I'm trying very hard not to think about AMVs and it's working pretty well. At some point, nevertheless, I decided to go ahead and try to make my romance/drama thingy with Gankutsuou. It's ok that I have to scour every disc all over again for footage. Now I've just got to get my hands on the music. Also, I finally got to see "Iron Man" this evening and aside from really liking the movie, I also liked the music and started toying around with some trailer concepts. There's one in particular I've had in mind for quite some time, but I think I should wait until the next iteration of Advent Children comes out. oh yay
Day 4: Probably running off to Newport to pick mulberries and spend more money. Also, have to get a hair cut. My favorite thing (heavy sarcasm).

Vacation: Day 1
2008-06-28 12:25:06
After driving 252 miles to get to my destination spot, I'm now surrounded by a lot of humidity, some hummingbirds and someone else's living room. Also, this mouse is set up for someone who is using it with their left hand, but the settings are for a right hand, and it's screwing me up. I am ambimoustrous, but this is ridiculous.
Today I plan to hit the beach. It's really nice beach weather and the tide's coming in, so I can snorkel without getting dragged out into the ocean...except that means the water will be colder since it's coming into the bay. Darnit. My dog's underwater crab-catching abilities are hopefully not rusty.
And yes, the logo on the AMV.org t-shirt might have to change every year, but that's ok - more reason for people to keep buying them! You could also make the back of the t-shirt have every single site logo featured.
I wonder if Phade would sue me if I made my own AMV.org t-shirt? I bet I could sell it. Or something. I know...leave an op on my AMV, get a free AMV.org t-shirt! lol

Since the journal is supposed to be there because, I guess, it is assumed we have something to say having to do with AMVs...

Looks like the convention engine is revving up again. Next weekend is AX and I'm discovering I'm chewing my fingernails as much over this one as all the rest (AB not included, that was a special case, I was traumitized by that competition; nightmares, tremors, loss of appetite, the whole nine yards).
A little twist in the tale is that my AMV is not going into retirement after AX as I'd planned. It's now (apparently) part of Vlad's comedy hour lineup and will be on tour for awhile with him. I'm still a bit stunned about this, but also quite happy. I've said all along that if I could figure out a way to get my video shown without having to enter it in a competition, then I'd do so. The awards aren't what's most important, it's people enjoying something I made for their enjoyment. Looks like I finally got my wish. My AMV is also making an appearance at a sci-fi con out in Washington later this summer - they asked if they could show it as part of a special anime screening. I said sure, why not? That's what its purpose in life is, to be seen. Apparently Timothy Zahn is a guest of honor - how cool would it be if he watched my AMV? :D
In AMV.org logo land, I actually came up with a design this year that I really like. Unfortunately, just like I always do, I went off on a tangent and the results are more befitting an AMV.org t-shirt than Web page. HA!! Too detailed, to ornate, too hard to make into a banner (though the logo hacking which goes in in banners makes that point almost moot. I can't even imagine what they'd do to mine.) It's rather amusing, my typical creative process seems to be the same no matter what it is I'm working on: I create stuff by accident. Sort of like random mutation vs. divine plan. I might still enter it...maybe, if I can't tweak it into better shape. :| I'd say it doesn't match the rest of the site and therefore doesn't stand a chance, but there have been quite a variety of logos over the years and that's not really a valid argument.
