Monsters verses Aliens:
Good flick in typical Dreamwork style. I wasn’t particularly impressed by the advertisements but the movie turned-out to exceed my expectations. The story is well done and there are a ton of “adult-level” innuendos. The story revolves around plain Susan who somehow survives an “incident” to transform into the giant “monster” Gigantica. Speaking of adult-level stuff, during her, “transformation phase” it was obvious the animators pushed the cloths-tearing-off-as-she-grew to the limit. In fact, there were a couple of scenes where they had to strategically place objects to keep the audience from looking up what was left of her now tattered dress. Hentai animators will have a field day…Unfortunately, some of the adult humor also “dated” this movie regarding the obvious portrayal of the U.S. president who was the target of the story writer’s lampooning. Overall, it was a good movie with a genuinely funny and engaging plot.
The Haunting:
One word – Rental. Unless you go with someone who is easily freaked-out by cheap scares AND you find it entertaining when they freak-out. There were several teenagers in the seat row behind us and each time a “scare” scene popped-up the girls just came un-glued and I just couldn’t stop laughing. I genuinely thanked them at the end for making movie so much more enjoyable.

Where's that Moonie? - Coraline is a Win 2009-02-09 13:59:28 I watched Coraline this weekend and it was fantastic! The story relies less on the now-nauseating, “I’ve messed-up/lack-confidence and now I have to fight my way back/prove myself” formulas that are typical of the latest bunch of animation videos. It’s still there but the characters are much more cleverly animated and the protagonist is strong-willed and interesting to the end. The animation is extraordinary in 3-D.
