1500 hits and counting....
2001-12-21 00:34:34
i wonder if i'm one of the more popular journals out there. i kinda doubt it - i haven't done reviewing in a while...then again i blab so much on this thing....
ah well. anyways, the very very rough cut of the secondary katsu vid is done. there's definately going to be some tweaking and probably replacing a couple scenes and such, but it's got the basics set. it should definately be done in time to upload to the nice person responsible for getting it to katsucon for me (damn my lack of a DV500+)
I found the coolest stuff on the yahoo japan auctions today...and if i weren't so paranoid about someone sniping me on the auction i'd tell what it is. i'm definately willing to drop the money on these though - they're very rare.
i think friday will be dedicated to doing a handful of reviews or so....just start going down the new downloads list from the last 30 days and pick out the handful of vids that are from bands that i can actually tolerate. as always requests will be honored (if you email me in time) and requests can be of any music/anime combo.
i almost wonder, though, if i'm harder on the stuff that's got shows/artists i do like - just because i want to see them done justice. i still have yet to see an REM vid that i feel is worthy of the music, which is probably why i'm wanting to do my own so much (and planning that out will probably take a good amount of the remaining winter break...)
i have also reached another new state of otakudom today, for i have run out of wallspace and have started putting posters on the ceiling. i'll have a wallscroll up there once i get a dowel rod for the galactic flag...

these are the days....
2001-12-20 01:05:14
well, actually i wouldn't say today was the greatest day of my life, but it was certainly interesting.
finally saw requiem for a dream today. if you haven't seen that movie, you definately should. it's a brilliant piece of filmmaking and the dvd comes with a ton of extras. just be warned that the last 20 minutes or so are just painful to watch. not only because of what is happening to the characters, but also because aronofsky did a brilliant job of handling the cuts and the direction and it's amazing the kind of control he exerted over the audience through the film.
i kinda feel regretful for not going home for at least a little while. there's a bunch of people i haven't seen in at least 6 or 7 months, and still others i haven't seen in longer than that who i'd kind of like to meet up with. also would've given me a chance to play para para paradise.
this feeling kinda came to me as i fed my internet addiction today and realized just how few people were online and active, be it irc, aim, icq, email, HP4GU, etc. i've forgotten how much of the college based crowd vanishes during winter break when they lose their bandwidth and such. of course, i'll soon be joining those ranks as i'll be back at work in 6 days. lucky for me, the week i start back is a timecard week so i'll actually get paid for a couple days the next week.
it's kind of ironic - i'm starting work on boxing day which is a national holiday in every country with a majority of christians except this one. i kind of like the german tradition of second weinachts where you go around to your friends' houses, say "that is a nice christmas tree" and get invited in for brandy and cookies. after commenting again at how incredibly nice their tree is, you leave the first house and go to the next. this is typically repeated about 10-15 times =)
for christmas eve, i'm planning to do my usual attempt at tradition and the whole start listening to rent so the line "december 24th, 9pm, eastern standard time" syncs up to when it actually turns 9pm. at least i'll be in the right time zone this year (for the first time actually....)
on xmas day i'll be...well...here. probably find all my non-christian friends and have everyone over for anime and movies or something. the tradition at home (as is standard in many non-christian households on christmas) was going to a movie, but that seems to have become the christian tradition nowadays....when i was growing up you also couldn't find anywhere that was open on xmas that served chinese food (something i always found ironic since most people in china are either buddhists or the state religion of aetheist.....)
work on the new video is progressing. i don't really have a lot laid down yet, some of it is going to be a pain to find just due to the lyrics and such. i doubt this will be ready by the time i start working again, but it'll be pretty close to the generic feel. i'd say that most of the katsucon video was stable in the first month and it was tweaks from there on out, but i ended up restructuring a decent amount of it after a while. i've already restructured this one twice, decided it wasn't worth it to use a 3rd party character and to just throw out the whole multi-character angle altogether. it's just sung by a trio...yeah....
anyhow, it's late and i'm exhausted. time to sleep until 10 or 10;30, get up, take a shower, and spend the day glued to the monitor (which will hopefully not start jumping around and attempt to eat me like the fridge did in the movie) working on this video.
*sigh* another example of feeling like i am wasting my life.

End of the Semester!!!
2001-12-18 23:43:33
Finals are over, no more papers, projects, exams, etc. until..well..next semester.
most of the roommates are gone, one's leaving tomorrow and the last will be in and out (mostly in) during break. it's time for some quiet around the house.
work starts on the 26th. until then, i'm trying to work on the secondary katsu video/fun project that won't get too much attention. started working on it tonite and realized that kids shows have crappy animation...but this one has cool art =)
shall we say overly simple video that's a hack and slash project before i get to work on something serious again? it's odd that i have this insane desire at times to produce utter works of crap (usually that is not intentional though...)
of course, at other times i work my ass off and produce things that are quite different and IMHO damn good =P
in the mean time, this vid should take about a week to get decent. laid a bunch of clips tonite, will scour over more footage, etc. tomorrow. also, to whoever encodes these damn raw eps from japan, they may be pretty, but learn to use some fscking keyframes!!!

3/0 papers 1/2 exams
2001-12-18 10:50:14
yup, last exams is in 2.75 hours, and it's german. i'm kinda worried - been reviewing over the stuff, but i know it's not as much as i should have been (does hanging out on german irc count?) so here's to good luck!!
tonite'll be a nite for helping people move out and taking care of some editing stuff (hopefully)...i may be a twit and watch requiem for a dream tonite instead of tomorrow, but one of the roommates (the one who's moving out) wants to see it and he's got an exam tomorrow morning, so the least i can do is show it to him.
ooh, das mahoromatic op...
