9 days to go....
2002-01-14 22:58:57
technically 8...i get MLK day off but sadly i'm not a true full time employee this time so I don't get it paid for =(
the lain discs already went.
anne came over...actually i metroed out to rockville to meet up with her. we went to trader joe's and giant. i'm such a glutton, spent $60 on a week's groceries. over the summer i was able to live on 30/week for food...next week's gonna be one for scrimping.
after buying groceries (i can eat again!) we came back to the apartment to watch Gravitation and Lodoss TV. Good stuff.
tomorrow i get to do more data entry and then copy documents and make tabs to go between them. doesn't this sound like fun?

A fast weekend for a long week....
2002-01-13 22:02:01
This was a really long week...didn't really have any good days all week, but this weekend was pretty cool. Fireye came over on saturday night and we played mutant academy 2 and hung out, etc.
The real fun though was for one hour saturday night and about 3-4 hours on Sunday: he brought his Macross DVD's over and we went through the first three volumes. I'm now torn between getting a new hard drive or buying this DVD set which is so breathtaking it's unbelievable (and it SUCKS that no one at work's an anime fan or otaku - no one there to talk to about it!)
It also sucks that because I've been on intermittent status I don't get to accumulate leave so when I took 3.5 hours off on Thursday I didn't get paid for them like I normally would (accumulating sick leave...) I don't know if I got New Year's paid or if I'll get MLK day paid....so much for one of the top perks of working for the government.
So, in order to make up for some lost wages I'm selling off my Lain DVD's. They're the legit thing and I've taken care of 'em. The eBay auction's at http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1502006421 so everyone go bid.
I also didn't get a lot of sleep this weekend which was kind of surprising. Went to bed around midnight on Friday and got up at 8 saturday morning and went to bed at 2:30am sunday and got up around 10ish....*sigh* I'm getting too damn adjusted to this whole working schedule thing. Thank goodness it's only 2 more weeks until classes start again.
I'm going to the grocery tomorrow night. Thank goodness - I have no food in my apartment that could be classified as something that can be used for a meal outside of oatmeal, granola (and I don't even like granola - my mother sent it to me), and my last package of ramen. It'll be cool both to get food and to see Anne again...haven't actually seen or talked to her outside of email and AIM for 2 weeks.
Oh, did another little Omake piece on Friday Night for the Katsucon CD....if you're going to the con you should DEFINATLEY find me to get a copy...I'm trying to make the Reel CD to end all Reel CD's.
Anyways, must sleep. Wakeup time is set for 7:15.

A quick one before bed
2002-01-09 23:16:27
the last couple days have sucked intensely. wasted money, lost time, and personal injury suck.
that being said, anyone know of an online comic store where I can pick up the old Nightcralwer limited series? I've been playing mutant academy 2 quite a bit lately (busted my leg, can't ddr) and have picked up my old hankering for the fuzzy elf =)
the 2 katsu vids are in the mail (thanks quu!) and once i get paid again (1 week from friday) i can buy my new hard drive and make the 2 vids i want to have to premiere at the katsucon amv panel.
in the meantime, work sucks. once again it's menial tasks beneath my intelligence, and what's worse is that this time there's not nearly as much to do...right now i'm supposed to be working on a pretty big data entry project, but it's hard when people dont' have the data prepped for you to enter (when they've had over a week's notice...)
so i'm gonna try and leave work early tomorrow, get my leg looked at, see if this toe that's been bothering me has an ingrown nail, try and get a flu shot, and perhaps for once get my mail before saturday if there's a chance.

$193.54

yup. i get paid tomorrow. three days pay, and the irs only took half of their usual percentage. i can now pay for the riovolt i said i'd buy off someone and afford groceries.
sexy commando sponsor tapes *should* be shipping tomorrow. harrassing people by phone is a bitchy way to do things, but it works.
work tomorrow will....be annoying. gotta spend the morning making fotocopies which entials taking a set of documents, copying a couple pages, seperating the collated sets, pulling post it notes off the next page, copying it, putting the post it notes back and continuing.
and repeating this for at least 100 pages.
there tends to be a post-it every 3 pages or so.
so i'm doing that...and some stuff with scanning and archiving. who knows what else. who cares. weekend after that. will get caught up on reviewing, work on parody project, and do laundry - was gonna do it tonite but the fucking community center closes at 7pm during winter...grah.
haven't played ddr lately. i walk enough at work anyways.

out of it
2002-01-01 20:53:08
yesterday was a looooooong day but a fun day.
Got to work a little late, and doing some math figured that I would be better off going out to lunch and brown bagging dinner than doing it the other way around. Got back from buying my lunch and was told we were all unoficially getting out of work at 3pm (read: we're not going on record with it but if you disappear around 3pm no one will care)
So I began to wander around downtown DC. DC is a great place to do this in. Went to the botanical gardens, which just reopened and spent an hour or so there. It's a beautiful facility and smells nice with all the plants, but it was waaaay crowded. At least I know where to run off to if I need to warm up for a bit during the day...it's a block and a half from work and because it's a greenhouse maintains a nice temperature.
After that I headed over to the air and space museum. Looked at some of the old planes and rockets, couple minor exhibits. I never really dug the air and space museum and still kinda don't. I guess it's a bit too fluffy for my tastes.
Following a brief time at A&S I headed over to the national art gallery, where the security guard proceeded to tell me that my backpack (a regular eddie bauer kind good for carrying textbooks, not hiking) was too large and would have to be checked.
Needless to say I left the national gallery and wandered over to a building I'd seen on my way to the national mall that looked neat and turned out to be the DC Court of Appeals. Once I got there I took my bearings and headed over towards the theatre.
On the way over I stopped off in Barnes & Noble, bought a package of Republic of Tea Blackberry, ate my dinner, and perused. They have a zelazny quotient of 4, but failed the Clausewitz test (do they have a copy of On War?) and I'm kind of appalled to see that I could count on two hands the number of titles on the four shelves of German History books that did NOT have to do with the second world war...
B&N closed early, so I went over to Starbucks to either read or buy more tea. Met two people in the Cabaret tour, chatted a bit with them, very nice folks. Went over to the theatre, bought my ticket for Tommy (Sat. Matinee, Orchestra row A seat 105). The stood around for an hour and a half waiting for the house to open. At least it was warm inside the theatre (it wasn't outside!)
Cabaret rocked. The show is amazing, and while the cast was clearly non-union (I don't think Equity would've let ANY of the leads in...) it was a great evening. The last scene of Act One is still one of my favorite scenes in all of theatre, both in the song and especially in the staging. The ending was a bit weakly performed, and the emcee just didn't have enough energy to pull it all off, but like I said, the show is amazing and it's hard NOT to enjoy it.
On the metro home I ran into someone from my women's studies class from 2 years ago. Didn't recognize her at all (she recognized me tho...) and she was clearly inebriated (as were her friends) but we bs'ed while waiting for the train. Got home, stayed up, went to bed by 12:30
got up around 10:45, made cookies, watched food network, talked to a couple people i haven't talked to in a while, read hpforgrownups, and most importantly...
i've started work on my parody sub. i'm at 6 min 45 sec of 20 min done in terms of the first draft, should have it scripted within a week or so. i'll tweak it for a while until the r1 dvd's come out when i'll rip and encode. it's only appropriate that this one be distributed through the digi channels.
anyhow, back to work tomorrow....
