It's not dead yet.....
2002-01-26 02:06:56
the hard drive wasn't DOA, my BIOS is just too old to handle it properly. Because setting the 32GB jumper and running that way is causing its own problems, fireye is gonna come by tomorrow and take it home with him, try to format and get it running on his machine and if it works for him bring it back and i'll order an ata/100 card.
if it's fucked up i'm calling ibm for a replacement...and getting an ata/100 card.
no soc class, no more job, fucked up HD....
Odin still works. Garmisch still works. Iserlohn proper is still functioning, the first panel vid is approaching finished (although the clips i ripped skip like mad but it adds to the ambiance of this one) and I've got a lotto ticket for tomorrow night that's a hopeful winner. If it is, I'll buy a fucking avid system to edit on.
In the meantime it's 2am and I've been up since 7 and the roommates are coming back tomorrow. joy.
"hello to dear mr. doorman who looks like captain kangaroo..."

type 7...mebbe type 6
2002-01-24 22:47:47
good news: katsucon panel vid #1 is well underway. the clips have been laid, all i have to do is the effects work and the cleanup.
bad news: even after bitching about my hard drive, that was nothing. Today I got an email from the university announcing that my military sociology class was cancelled for the duration of the semester (we start classes on monday) and that I needed to find a replacement on my schedule.
Everything is full. Anything that looks interesting is full, at a time when I have another class, or has so few people signed up that it's probably been cancelled as well.
I'm so fucked.

adventures in technology

Oy.
Sexy Commando masters have arrived and those who have them due have been informed to pick them up. I have my DVD back finally!
Got the Rio Volt. I like it a lot, but it's annoying because I always carry my CD player in my jacket pocket, which bounces a lot while I walk. Once the buffer's run out on the player it has to spin up from rest and load the RAM again. I need to either just carry it in my hands or learn how to walk so that every 2 minutes I can keep that pocket flat enough to buffer the volt again.
But the audio levels are cool and it rocks being able to carry around so much music on so few cd's, I just have to get used to its....quirks.
What really pisses me off is my new hard drive though. It arrived tonight, and was supposed to be a good drive for a great price. However, it's DOA and in the process of installing it nearly wiped my computer by causing the BIOS to go blind, ignoring my old hard drive, dvd-rom, and cd burner.
Fortunately I was able to tweak everything into working the way it had been again. Fireye thinks the drive's busted, so I'll have to contact Newegg for an RMA and a replacement. It pisses me off too - I really wanted to get editing on the two vids I'm making for the Katsucon panel.
2 more days of work.

tomorrow's only thursday.
i want my paycheck. i want my mail. i want to go to bed and not have to wake up at 7 in the morning.
there's a great quote from "a man for all seasons" about this sort of situation, but I'm too tired right now to dig it up and put it here.
Also, goatse.cxing people on the aim chat is fun....'cept goatse.cx is down so i have to use pix from stileproject instead. it's cruel and immature, but yet i still find it damn funny =)

Amidazi: editing weddings....
2002-01-16 18:40:12
Bah. Weddings are time consuming and they don't pay a lot, but they're fairly easy.
Try having to go back to 2 sets of ISOs (wide and close up) of a 6 hour cheerleading competition to fix the 15 second glitches, and then go back and drop title cards in every 2.5 minutes.
Repeat with dance recitals which have more annoying music, uglier girls, and nastier title cards....and 3 times as many glitches and 4 times as many angry studio owners.
You can guess where I used to work =)
