Lift up your hands!

Kyburg: I owe you a drink should we meet up in Germany. The paper got an A-, and he commented on the bravery in writing a subject and the interesting aspect of comparing it to post 9/11 media. I owe you a BIG one for suggesting that. Thank you so much!
EK: That EoE pic was so thoroughly wrong. It reminded me of the stuff over at Food Court (don't wanna look up the URL).

Exams are over! I have no more exams to finish, just a paper, and that's not even too much to do. Oyeah I have to move....it'd be nice if I could get ahold of the damn landlord......
Still working through trouble chocolate. finished ep 9. I like the teachers a lot more than the main characters, which is pretty sad as the teachers barely appear.
I think...everything...is going ok.....
Oyeah, I got my confirmation from Austria today +) It's weird to think that in two months I'll be studying in Europe. Truth be told, I'm a little scared. Maybe that's just the Shiji in me talking...

'Cause with all the changes you've been through....

Saw the new potential house today, looked good, price was more than i'd really like, but it'll do. I'm apparently the first and only person who's called, so that's all good, just have to talk to the landlord, a generic "who are you" interview, then transfer money and write the check.
Did some writing on my paper today, leeched a LOT of anime for summer viewing, and watched my bootleg of Hedwig and the Angry Inch from off broadway. Tomorrow will be some reviewing, and a LOT of time in hornbake to watch a movie for French Rev. extra credit (that I should've done a while ago....) and then there's a 5 hr BYOA at tas....I have no idea if I'll stay the whole time, probably will but may leave early just to deal with pre-sleep needing things - 2 exams monday, 8am and 10:30am
So it's time to talk about Hedwig.....
I wish I wasn't such a fucking lazyass and had dragged my sorry self down to Arlington to see it at the Signature. The music is amazingly powerful and really reaches out, and the dialogue's got some great moments. It's also a show where you should see it live for first, the musical power, and secondly because you have to pay attention - the actor who plays Hedwig also plays another character and because of that, the last three or four songs and how they work together are confusing. I want to see the movie now.
I also think I like the Gnosis version of Wicked Little Town (the reprise on the off-bway cd) a little better than the actual one sung by Hedwig. The tune is the same, but the lyrics for the Gnosis are a little more brutal....I'm not sure if it's supposed to be evil or not, but there's DEFINATELY the potential for it in this song. The Hedwig version is the song of someone tired and scorned and thrown aside by the world. They're both beautiful, and I'd love to use them in a project.
Anyways, it's 2AM and I've got work to do later!

can you see the real me?
2002-05-16 21:58:24
I've learned that being nice to eric just isn't worth it. By being nice last night I wound up going into my German exam with only 3.5 hours of sleep. I think I did OK, but who can tell.
Tomorrow is archive diving, fixing fact sheets, taking a new couple rounds of notes, hopefully I've got some change or some credit left on my copy card and the archive isn't on the new system yet. I'm hoping to only be there for a couple hours, but who knows at this rate.
2 finals on monday, bigger worries before those though.
Like what?
The planned sublet fell through - someone who was supposed to be moving out of the house...well...isn't. So it's off to search again. I think I've found somewhere. It costs more, but it's a little better locationally for me and the utilities are included, so that's good. I'm going to see it on Saturday and hopefully I can call around tomorrow and see another couple places then too. I'm going with whoever makes the best deal first though, so probably the expensive one. I just want to be able to call the banker, get the cash, and pay the rent and not have to worry about it.
Finished reading the Eagle manga today. This is a damn good series, and I highly recommend it to anyone who wants an intense story and isn't scared of a little political science in the mix. The whole thing is available in 5 GN's and they're HUGE (400-500 pages each) so they actually take a couple hours to read and are very worth their $20 cover price.
Also picked up the first book of the Initial D manga today but I haven't started reading it yet. I'll probably buy the manga mostly and not get the anime to replace my tapes with except for a couple choice volumes...gotta cut costs somewhere. The ID manga is pretty thick - 220 pages for $10 cover, which is pretty damn good. The paper's about the quality of Japanese so it's appropriate...except that it's still not down to european prices (Manga in Germany goes for E5-10, or about $4-8 for a GN). Gotta love that american anti-reading stigma.
Recommended MP3 for the time: "Midnight Radio" from Hedwig and the Angry Inch. The movie version is quite good and slightly longer, but the theatrical has a bit more of a raw sound so it's got a little extra punch.
Today I learned how to do scrolling text in Premiere. This is actually important for future projects.
Kyburg: I hope everything turns out well with your sister.
Kusoyaro: I never liked sour cream in anything...except for sour cream cakes. Those are really good.

and nona...and nico...and me.....
2002-05-14 22:51:59
got a B in norse. yay. i never have to take that class again and already gave away the course materials.
got an a- on my french revolution paper. yay. i need to do extra credit now to help push me up in case my final comes up borderline as well.
i *really* hope my nazi europe paper is graded by the final.
i also need to schedule some archive time and find out about the house for this summer...i should really stop antagonizing eric because i'll need his van to help move things, but it's just so damn hard NOT to - the man tries patience like almost nothing else and i am NOT a very patient person...it's one of those things that keeps creeping up whenever i think of the fact that part of me wants to teach someday.....i'd be the profesor snape of the history department +)
backing up my otakon video now - 12 cd's for all the edit huffy's. good thing i bought a new spindle today.
the lack of a single standard for writeable DVD is so fucking annoying. went to best buy, they swore they were giving me the right kind of blank, and they weren't...then again they were stupid enough not to know the difference between DVD-R(G) and DVD-R(A)....or that there WERE such things as DVD-R(G) and DVD-R(A) and that they are NOT compatible with the DVD+R and DVD+RW systems.
anyhow, german final on thursday, french rev and nazi europe finals monday. writing seminar paper due wednesday, norse is finished. tomorrow is study day which means sleeping late and running errands.

Boom.
2002-05-13 23:02:37
The paper has been turned in.
My oral is over.
All the prep for Norse tomorrow is done.
All I have to worry about now is what's to follow....3 finals (I think it's three...) and my writing seminar paper. I should book some research time for that.
That and finalizing all things for the sublet.
Austria's paid for, I need to get my rail pass. I also need to get myself a PO box.
It's sad when the best I can do for a journal entry is laundry list my work.
