JOURNAL: kageshinzo (Omar )

  • making videos during daylight hours? is that possible 2001-12-18 03:43:02 As of this writing I'm in the process of making my third vid. Considering the Christmas hours I've been working I can only work on it after 1AM. The video uses footage from Noir and the song "Big Gun" by Ice-T from the Tank Girl soundtrack. I've looked and I don't think anyones done it before so I'm jazzed about making it. I'm off the next two days so you know what I'll be doing ..........and making my video.
  • Must see TV 2001-12-15 03:49:22 Reading a lot of the journal entries shows a lot of peolpe in the same boat when it comes to needing a long stretch of free time to work on their projects. Good, now I don't feel so bad about not being able to work on mine till a more convenient time. I'm not making light of your situations (giggle, giggle), really I'm not. It always seems this time of year halts the production of amv's coming out down to a few paltry entries for the whole month.
So I suggest this, a creator supported annual month long hiatus and before you scream at your monitor "What the F*ck" hear me out. December is a hard time for most of you since you have finals this month. Reading the journals I estimate that to be more than half of you. Reason #1 - this gives you time to study and make good grades and make parents happy and make your time with them easier since they won't be bitching about your grades. Reason #2 - what better month to take a break than this one? With Christmas around the corner and I know some amv creators have been very nice this year. There will be no doubt an abundance of anime under the tree with which to make a grand season premiere in January (or February). It's like a television season, October-November are the season finales and January-February are the season premieres how cool would that be. The month off would give us all time to reflect on past and future project, study for finals, bone up on our skills, and increase our anime stockpile. If creators supported this across the board it would usher in a new age in digital media. gone would be the days of men and women huddled in dark rooms making little videos. We could discuss are projects in board rooms, have "your people" call "my people", spearhead multimillion dollar project and yes, power lunch.
Something of this magnitude could make us household names like Lucas or Spielburg but on a smaller scale. I believe we could use some time off to gather our thoughts and come back next year with a new vitality and a gleam in our eye not seen since we first viewed anime and knew it was our calling to take this artform to the next level and if that involves setting it to a beat you can dance to so be it.
  • We're all fans....... right? 2001-12-14 07:22:49 I hate to ride the band wagon, especially with all the soap boxes people bring with them, there's no room to sit. I'm the type of guy who reads an article and if I disagree I'll formulate a well written letter in my head and leave it at that......but(you knew it was coming so don't even..). I'm sick of hearing about how calling yourself an otaku is frowned upon or marks you as a jap-english speaking buffoon trying to sound worldly(Well Miffy being the otaku that I am, I'd have to disagree with you on your views of inter-social cultures and it's effect on foreign policy). This theory might fly in Japan land of the six day work week, where a job that dosen't require a tie or 9-5 hrs.might be viewed as unproductive. where getting in to a good college(or any college)requires a strict regime of studying 24/7 two to three years prior to entering college not ot mention the tests and pre-tests and mock tests and don't forget "the" test. More time and energy is spent on this than most people over here spent in a life time. Don't even, cause I know what your thinking. I'm not saying we're stupid people by any means but anyone in college knows it dosen't take brain science to get into college (brain science?.....hm). Back to the subject at hand (brain science?),in Japan being an otaku has a stigma of being a shifty eyed, unkempt, unshaven, manga reading lech but thats them. In that society, that culture this might be true. Hell, they made up the word they can do whatever they want with it. But this is the good ol' US of A we have a tried and true habit if taking words from other countries and making them our own (croissant!).Some time they mean the same (croissant!) and sometimes they don't (non croissant!).I'm getting hungry.....anyway we, for a long time have outgrown the stigma of geekdom and all that is associated with it, well maybe not "all" but it's not such a harsh word as it used to be. Nowadays many of the geeks or fanboys of old look down on us from their glass towers and say...."I'll buy that one and that one and that one...". So in conclusion(don't ask dude, I have no idea) we've taken a negative word from one culture that relates to our genre and americanized it to mean something positive (at least I think so) that unites our genre. Many people will disagree but you have to look at the big picture. They are one culture and we are another, not everything translates the same or should really if you think about it. There should be room for growth and mutation in concepts and communication. Who knows maybe long from now (long, long from now) they might adopt our meaning for otaku.......Ok maybe I'm talking sh*t, but it would be cool.
    Croissant!

  • 2001-12-11 02:25:52 Well the holiday season is upon us like a horny chihuahua, but what can you do? I for one am working some mad hours and won't have the time I would like to finish my video (go to work at 12:30PM come home 1:00AM)and I don't really see any time till after this hell has gone away. On a lighter note I bought my first DBZ DVD today for a future project. I have many fansub episodes and movies on VHS but none on DVD. I swore once that I would never make a DBZ video cause I knew the response I would get (Oh look A--NOTHER DBZ vid.)but this song I have in mind just screams Dragonball. This holiday season will put a real cramp in my videos and website plans but please bare with me. Hang in there kiwi blue I'm right there wit'cha.

Janruary is my time to shine!! (must picture in your mind a character standing atop a pedestal while angels throw rose petals around his head)
