JOURNAL: Otohiko

  • Obligatory Sammy-response post 2005-06-28 22:15:42 I don't actually have anything to say to Sammy right now, but I thought I'd jump on the bandwagon and make a journal entry about it like everyone else does

  • And just as the bragfest was wrapping up... 2005-06-27 02:29:31 ...I had to go and make a new, expanded version of the video. (The Blind Man's Tale)

Actually, I had no plans of continuing it, since 1) I thought it was obvious enough our hero survived; and 2) The other option was copying Das Boot's ending and that's too cliche... and too much hassle to do in SHIII.

But then my kind host, who was very impressed by the video, mentioned the idea of continuing it. I don't know if it's an exception that another person's opinion actually had more weight than mine when it came to creative matters, but the idea sort of stuck in my head... So I went outside and while wandering around the neighbourhood, my brain cooked up a rough idea of how to finish it in a more interesting way.

Anyway, so yesterday morning I woke up KNOWING that I had to do this, now.
So, I did. And here we are many hours later, render.... [my computer runs out of HD space]... FSK!!!!

Ah well. Clear out garbage, take 2.

Anyways, what's interesting here is that I never thought that I would be able to really do a 12-minute music video! Indeed, I probably could never do that in 1 take. But in two sessions with a good break for ideas in between, I think I managed to do it quite well.
Although it's probably wrong to class it as a music video. It's not very impressive as a music video. Better to call it a short film - at 12 minutes, that's really what it is.

For those who saw and liked the first two versions - stand by for the new and completed file to be uploaded.
The downside is that it will be over 170mb for you to get - but if you do, I hope you like it. It's really been something entirely new and different for me...
  • Apologies to the people I currently owe ops, again... 2005-06-25 11:20:36 Will be back to them shortly. Was mentally elsewhere for the last few days, thus the lack of opping - but not to worry!
  • The brag-fest continues... 2005-06-20 16:11:09 From the kind admin Maestro...
"1.284 full(successful) downloads of your film...so the 40GB figure is
    obsolete :-))"

Keep in mind that this is about 36 hours after the video was first uploaded...

    .... O_o
  • Holy crap... 2005-06-19 18:14:39 I think I'll soon need therapy to prevent me from acting out of character - well, from at least to prevent me from getting an actual editor's ego...

But wow, I have to say, this recent video of mine has blown my expectations in the subsim community on all accounts. It's on the Subsim site's front page too now, and going by the latest info I have from Terrapin, my most gracious host, it seems that in 1 day it has been downloaded more times than The Wasteland, my most 'popular' AMV to date, was downloaded in 1 YEAR. Fancy that...

Anyway, this goes to perhaps suggest to others - please, try to step out of the all-AMV shoes and make a video to your favorite game/movie every once in a while. If you show it to the right audience, the results might surprise you...
