JOURNAL: pyro72

  • i'm baaack! 2001-10-23 12:40:28 Hehe, thought you got rid of me, didn't you? I was quiet for an entire 3 days. But I'm bored at work (as usual), so maybe I'll manage to entertain a few people.

This weekend was boring. Finished capturing clips for my current project. Played a *ton* of Final Fantasy IX. IV is still my favorite, primarily for nostalgic reasons and level of difficulty, but IX is very cute. I'm at the beginning of disc 3, and I know events around then aren't too peachy, but... well, for instance, I think the relationship between Zidane and Garnet is handled *much* better than the one between Squall and Rinoa. And doesn't Vivi just make you want to give him a hug? Poor boy...

Yesterday I stayed home from work sick - one of those annoying 24 hr. bugs. But I'm much better today. I watched the second Fushigi Yuugi OAV and Bridget Jones' Diary to pass the time. I highly recommend BJD. :) It's based on _Pride and Prejudice_, my fav of Jane Austin's novels. And nice to see a main female character who's realistic for a change.

Hmm, time to reply to some journal entries!
fellowhoodlum - Thanks for your opinion of my vid! I'll put the most recent version of it on the cds I send you. By the way, I ripped that movie you wanted... is it okay if I send it w/o subs and audio, since all you need is the footage? And email me an address to send it to. :)

knghtbrd - I have to agree about trains. That sucks that you can't drive, but the one time I took an Amtrak train, it was actually quite comfortable. Very scenic too. Plus I like taking the "L" (Chicago's train system) or the Metra to work. It certainly beats dealing with traffic, although in the case of the L, there's all those drunks/psychopaths. *shudder* Depending how messed up they are, they either think I'm a guy or extremely pretty. ....Whatever.

alternatefutures - Wahahha! The battle's on! Of course, we'll probably both get our booties kicked by people much better than us, but friendly competition is always great by itself. Of course, with your spiffy Outlaw Star model, your video will blow mine out of the water. :)

Oh, yes! More exciting info in my whirlwind of a life. I found an apt in Houston to live in... now I need to find a roommate. :) I don't *have* to have a roommate, of course, but I miss having one. I was pretty much always best friends with my roommates at school. It's just nice to have someone there when you come home, who you can hang out with and whatnot. Esp. if that someone doesn't have the annoyances of a relationship, or the bickering of a family member. :)
  • the new music revolution... 2001-10-18 22:06:33 It seems that people are really starting to talk about vids to different groups. My ego would like to think that I helped push it along, but I doubt it. :)

I was reading StudioKZ's journal, though, and thought maybe I should clarify my previous journal entry/forum posts.

AMV creators really do need to look at new sources of music - the majority of them, at any rate. There *are* a great deal of creators who've used original music - such as StudioKZ's Doors vid. :) Obviously we don't want 200 Beatles amvs (unless they're all excellent, in which case, bring 'em on!), but I think one great thing about .org is there's so much information-sharing. All you have to do is ask for video help or inspiration or whatnot, and you have it. Heck, just watch some good videos and see what they do right. A lot of times an amv is excellent due in great part to a new (new as in rarely-used), well-applied song. So learn from others. ;) If you see that there's 140+ Linkin Park vids, think twice about using one of their songs. I promise you, there's definitely another song that would work *just* as well and wouldn't make most of us let off a string of curses at "yet another stupid LP amv." You don't need a bazillion "totally awesome effects" to make people like your video. Oftentimes viewers'll like it if you tell a story well and have some refreshingly "new" music.

I admit I'm not the most qualified person to talk about this. :) I'm probably not even making any sense. *shrug* Ah well... btw, KZ, I'm downloading your Doors vid now. I'll let you know what I think of it. :)
  • the last thing pyro needs... 2001-10-18 16:43:06 ...is a pair of 2 1/2" heel boots. But I bought them, and I'm wearing them now. :) I must be nuts. I'm 5' 11.5" (that .5 inch is very important, you know) as it is. However, despite the fact that I now tower over most people I meet (more so than before that is), my brothers are still taller than me. :p on them. Damn puberty. I still reminiscence over the days when I could kick the sh*t out of them. Of course, now they can just pick me up and lock me in the bathroom.
The only compensation I have for this is that I don't have to live with them. They may be bigger than me, but they have to "behave" and "act like adults" now (ha! like that stops them!).
Being the oldest is still damn nice, though. :)

knghtbrd - I know what you mean about airplanes. I like flying; I just don't like flying in commercial planes. In those dinky little coach seats my knees are practically up to my chin. And with *my* appetite, those ridiculously small cups of soda and bag(s) of pretzels (where are my peanuts, dammit?!) just don't cut it. I'd have to say that despite how long it takes, my favorite way to travel is by car. With no cops around. At night. It doesn't get any better than that. :) (well, maybe if I had afterburners on my car....)
Err, scratch that. It'd be better if I had a motorcycle. Unfortunately they're just not all that practical for someone living in Chicago. Maybe once I move to Houston in January...

I've got to check out EK's Bebop wallpapers I keep hearing about. We have two on our wallpaper site, and they're pretty good. Unfortunately the majority of wallpapers I've found online are "take a screencap, add text and/or gradient and/or lens flare." Whoopedy-do. I don't call that art, sorry. Hmm, sounds a bit like a lot of amvs out there, huh? :)

I've been reading about new songs people are using in their journals. Tres bien, oui? It's great to see people considering so many new bands and genres. One of these days I'll write a completely pretentious article on the Renaissance of AMV Making. It should be fun.

These journal things are dangerous. :) I tend to ramble, and this journal is an open invitation for just that. I wonder if some people actually find it entertaining... (well, I know I do, but I'm too weird to be considered an 'average person.')

Oh yeah, one last thing - alternatefutures, I challenge your Outlaw Star video! At ACen 2002 we can duke it out over which Illinoisian has the better OS amv. ;) It should be fun. It'll give me incentive to get my lazy behind in gear.

Can't wait for the bloodbath. Mwahahaha!
  • aw, yeah, baby! 2001-10-17 22:58:35 I just got my airline tickets in the mail for my week-long trip to Boston. Halloween in Boston will never be the same with my crazy-ass presence there. :)

And excepting Russia & Germany (which don't count cause they're overseas), this'll be the first time I'll be east of Kentucky. Pretty sad, huh? I've been all over the western part of the US, though.

*And* I got home to see a new review of my Esca vid. It's been a nice evening. :)
  • i'm innocent, i swear! 2001-10-17 13:13:07 I've been accused of being on a musicals spree on one of the forums. :) It's kind of funny actually - most of my video ideas are fairly serious, whereas most of the time I'm pretty laidback/fun-loving. Then, when I was perpetually pissed off/depressed for a week and half (ending yesterday), I had a flood of *happy* video ideas. Very strange...

Most of these upbeat ideas use songs from the 50s-60s. And you know what - why not? Sorry folks, but Metallica is NOT the only good band out there, and "Crawlin'" is not the only good song. The 80s are FULL of songs with great beats. The 70s provide plenty of funky music - someone needs to make an amv to either The Doors or Jimi Hendrix's music. The 60s has the Beatles - need I say more? And I think if someone did an amv to swing music well, it'd get stuck in my head faster than Mamboleo. :) So diversify, people! Challenge yourselves. Dare to do something new. That's something important I learned in the past year, and damn has it made my life so much more exciting.

Just two cents from a crazy Chicago chick.
