Final Fantasy XIII is kicking my butt. I blame my lack of desire to grind and the lack of good enemies nearby. >_<

H is for HAte
2010-03-11 14:14:10
Of all the human emotions, Hate is the one I've least come to understand as a person. Hate of a race, hate of a gender, hate of a sexual orientation... I've never understood how a person can really hate another person. Even people who have done me wrong in the past, and even my professors who are completely assholes. I say I hate them, but it's not enough hate to really warrent anything signigant.
I'm talking about brutal hate. The kind of hate a man feels whenever he hits his wife. The kind of hate that the Nazis had when they killed and experimented on millions of Jewish people. The kind of hate that caused a freind of mine today to get beaten to a pulp outside our college campus because of his sexual preference.
I'll never understand it. And I don't think I want to.
A very similar thought crossed my mind today when I was reading melle's post about FFXIII and Bauzi's post about MW2. I can understand why people distaste a game or a musical artist or a singer. I can understand why they'd say "they suck" or like what Meele posted about FFXIII. It's the elitist douchebags, however, that I cannot understand. The ones all high and mighty declaring that mainstream things are "lame" or "shitty" or ect. You get my drift. The people that have no life and prefer to mock the lower class of gamer or musical appreciant. I was in the video game store, making sure my HG/SS preorder was all paid off [so I can drop in on Sunday, grab it and go], and I saw a little kid buying a used copy of Final Fantasy XII. Now, I didn't like XII, but if the kid wanted to get it and try it out, I think that's fine. That's why gamestop has a 3 day policy for returning [used] games if you didn't like them. But this douchebag walks by and starts telling the kid how shitty the game is and how it's a waste of his money. Now, this kid could not have been more than 12 years old and was starting to get upset [crying], so I said "Well, if you like Final Fantasy games, I'm sure you'll have fun with it. And if you don't, you can always bring it back" in a sweet voice trying to keep the kid from crying and embarassing himself.
I'd love to reiterate something that I said a long time ago.
Just because it's mainstream doesn't make it bad. [But it can be]
Just because it's obscure doesn't make it good. [But it can be]

Final Fantasy XIII is continuing to impress me. But that may very well be because I had such low expectations of it. The battles are still fun and enjoyable, the story is moving at a pretty nice pace, and the enemies are still following a lovely uphill curve of challenging. Although the HP bricked enemies are still pissing me off considerably, and who's idea was it to give enemies a gatling gun that can wipe out your main character without the ability to heal? I had to freaking switch out party strategies every time that stupid thing pulled out that attack so I wouldn't die! [and I still died 3-4 times before finally getting past the bloody thing..].
The characters are really starting to shine. Even the meathead Snow is starting to get with the picture. Lighting is developing nicely, Hope is getting slightly less whiny and more into my heart, I ADORE FANG and her snarky attitude. Although it's been a while since I've played as Sazh and Vanille, so I'm wanting to get back to them already.
Oh, and the graphics are just remarkable. My mom came downstairs during a cutscene and was asking what show I was watching [thinking it was a live action television program]. xD Granted, it was a scene with Snow [who actually looks half human from the uncanny valley in this game], so I can't blame her too much.
Also, I'd like to address something that Meele stated in his thing. Yeah, the game is fucking unrealistic. Charcters can jump nearly 50 feet into the air and do acrobatic combat that'd made Dante jealous? Motor vehicles that defy gravity and the laws of physics? Surviving 5000 story falls? A little kid barely 13 taking on trained soldiers? That's FFXIII
But that's the point. It's unrealistic! Isn't that the point of *most* games, especially in JRPGs? It's no more unrealistic than recovering damage in Modern Warfare after getting shot in the face. It's no more unrealistic than Gears of War and their chainsaws of death. It's especially no more realistic than Bioshock and its underwater hellhole.
But I suppose your argument is valid. That was something that I honestly thought when I got the ability to "Launch" enemies into the air. I thought "isn't that just... odd....". But I don't want realism in a final fantasy game.
I want the ability to cast Ultima and blow the fucking bad guys to hell and beyond. xD

F is for Final Fantasy XIII [Again]
2010-03-10 16:08:57
Just a few little things I've noticed.
1) Sazh's kid is ADORABLE ZOMG SQUEE
2) Hope is still irritating.. But I abuse his defensive spells like crazy. xD
3) Sazh is pretty much my favorite character. Not combatively [Lighting is], but as a character, he's actually pretty well rounded and amusing to listen to. :D I'm seeing that the black sterotypes are melting away slowly revealing an actually amusing person.
4) I'm waiting for Lighting to stop being a robot. BEEP BOOP BEEP.
5) Snow is a fucking moron. >_< /throws into pit of wurpess gropage
6) I'm still confused as hell when it comes to some of this backstory crud. >_<
7) I've learned to balance out the classes on the grid so I'm getting the most out of my CP.
8) I spent 16 minutes on a boss fight. Good God.. SAd thing is that it wasn't a challenge as much of going through the thing's hellish amount of health. [HP =/= challenge] >_<
9) EXP carries over even if people don't fight! :D
10) Why are the levels with Sazh so ridiculously easier than the ones I go through with Lighting? O_o
11) NEED MOAR DRAMAZ AND LESS FLASHBACK PLZ
/goes back to game
