JOURNAL: KagatoAMV (Nic Neidenbach)

  • FTP Activity 2002-10-07 11:45:01 The server held up semi-functionally over the weekend. I saw what was for me an amazing amount of activity. Lots of people logging in to download Black Heaven: Behind the Music, Forsaken Angel and Boom Boom Dollar. I also saw that some people got access denied errors when trying to access the files. I'm not really sure why, so my appologies.

I didn't get nearly the video work I'd ment to done this weekend. I did get the cliffhanger segments done. I can use those if I ever get invited to do another panel. After talking to Vlad at AWA, I want to make master MiniDV tapes of my video work and store them someplace other than my apartment, I guess its like keeping backups off site.

I have a few new video ideas starting to come together. Last year I didn't do any new video work from September to well into February. I figure thats pretty much why I came down to the wire on so many deadlines. I want to remaster my Unforgiven video. I really want people to see what I was trying to express without the poor video quality getting in the way.

Another idea brewing uses an old Moody Blues song. I'm a little hesitant to use it as a contest entry though. Moody Blues isn't really contemporary to music tastes nowdays. But for me this song really needs to be used.

Got a comedy idea as well. Unfortuantly, with my sense of humor, while I find the idea very funny, I'm not sure how it'll translate. For instance, I really though the idea of my Black Heaven video would be real funny. But its not, its quirky, but not really funny. That make any sense?

I'm not a comedian, I'm not one of the great AMV creators. Every once in a while, usually more often right after a contest, I have to stop myself from falling into a mentality of not taking chances. That make sense? I balk at some of my video ideas thinking, "That'll never win anything..." Maybe not getting anything into AX contest was a bigger ego hit than I'd like to admit. Feh, more self indulgent ramblings.

Back on track, Unforgiven remaster, Moody Blues video, vague comedy video idea as well as some tests for the DJ for the 3rd DDR project pretty full plate for a hobby...
  • New Videos Available for Download... Sorta 2002-10-04 11:22:42 I worked on my ftp server last night; ftp://studiohybrid.serveftp.com/ it sorta works. Its supposed to allow for Anoymous logins and such. The web links on my video entries on the amv.org database and on my website don't work.

Mpeg1 versions of the following videos are now available:

Black Heaven: Behind the Music (AWA Masters Entry)
Boom Boom Dollar 2nd Mix (2nd DDR Project Track)
    Phantom Somewhere (AWA Pro Entry)

I should have a Mpeg1 of Just Another Day on the server tonight.

Hopefully I'll be able to repair the web links as well.
  • FTP server ver 3.14... 2002-10-03 12:08:51 I'm going to try and ressurect my FTP server tonight (and probably on through this weekend) With that I can make the videos I had at AWA available for download.

At my little panel at AWA I mentioned the attract mode video from the video game Cliffhanger. I want to digitize that off the LD and put that up on the server too. The Laserdisc I have is so beat up I'm not sure if it'll still play. I'm still amazed that people stayed to listen to me and watch my vids.
  • What's Nic Reading? 2002-10-01 17:30:33 Or rather, what has Nic read...

Plane trip from LA to Atlanta: The Runelords
Plane trip from Atlanta to LA: Brotherhood of the Wolf

Runelords is shaping up to be a very interesting fantasy series. I'm starting on the third book, Mageborn, now. If you like fantasy fiction, I think it'll be worthwhile to give it a try.

  • AWA 2002-10-01 14:15:15 (sent this to the AMV mailing list, but what the hell I'll put it here too)

This past weekend was my first AWA. You know, in the past I heard how great AWA was supposed to be for AMVs and AMV creators. Everyone talked about it, but from my perspective I thought, "Now it can't be _that_ great, its just a convention." I can say now that I was wrong. Never in my experience has an anime convention treated AMVs and their creators with more respect. I was very impressed.

I tried to meet as many AMV creators as I could, but I know I missed some people. Whenever I walk up to people and say, "Hi, I'm Nic." I always think I sound like such an idiot. :) I also never remember names, so this time I took as many pictures as I could. I'll try to get those off my camera and online to share with everyone. I have a sequence of pictures of a table outside the dance where many AMV creators slowly gathered late Friday night.

I had a great time at AWA and will be returning next year if at all possible. :)

Oh and the DDR project premier was a blast too.
