CSUN AMV Contest
2002-10-30 10:29:09
Whew, I nearly forgot to put together a tape to enter the CSUN contest. Considering that CSUN is only about 15-20 minutes away, it would be a shame to not enter the contest.
I decided to mix things up, rather than just enter this year's videos;
Phantom Somewhere
Jinnai and Bugrom Live
This is the Life!
Forsaken Angel
Phantom Somewhere and Forsaken Angel haven't been shown around to much, so it'll be nice to see crowd reactions to them. I submitted Jinnai since there was mention that there weren't a lot of comedy entries, and that's my only comedy video.

Fandom the Same All Over?
2002-10-29 18:52:39
Per my other entry, getting a costume ready for Thursday, I've been looking on Cosplay web sites ideas and advice on creating it. Obviously there are things about the look of a character in anime that aren't practical to pull off real life. Things like hair, props, materials, ect.. so I'm curious how people who focus on Cosplaying sacrifice being authentic for being realistic.
As I looked through the web sites, I noticed that just like AMV creators, Cosplay is a community with its own set of issues that are hotly debated. I won't go into them here, but it was interesting to see that while our expressions of anime fandom are different, they still possess the same devotion and occasional heated debates.

Halloween Cosplay?
2002-10-29 11:51:53
I’ve had to put my AMV work on hold temporarily until I finish work on my Halloween costume. Two of my friends are getting married on the 31st, and its going to be a “Masquerade Ball” ceremony and reception. Which means I need a costume. Usually I go for something “dark” but I suspect there will be a lot of that already. The obvious choice is to create an anime related costume.
So this Halloween is going to be my first shot at “cosplay” Heh, I’m going to look like and idiot, I just know it. Probably going to be tons of people asking me, “What are you supposed to be?”
Maybe, just maybe, if the costume goes over well I’ll actually wear it at AX this next year.

And I was doing so well...
2002-10-18 15:29:56
I had been doing pretty good with regular updates, but then had the first final for my CCNA class. Focused on studying, I forgot about this Journal.
To make up for it, here is that track from the ONI trailer that was used for my 2001 VCD menu:

I've pulled the Blind Guardian track, just not enough server space.

Unforgiven Remaster Entry 1
2002-10-11 18:00:03
I began work on the Unforgiven remaster. Since I no longer have access to video in digital format, I had to bring it into my computer from VHS tape. A little tweaking and I got the audio from the old version to sink up with the AIF file I ripped from the Metallica CD.
The next step was to go through the old video and mark where I made each cut. I want the feel of the video to be the same, with better quality footage and tighter editing. As I marked the cuts, I noticed a trend. Almost all the cuts happen a frame or two before the appropriate beat in the music. I’m not sure where in the original process this error occurred. Was my original beat marking way off? Did the process of outputting the video to VHS introduce a delay? I examined the VHS tape and it has the delay, so the problem wasn’t a result of bringing the video into the Mac.
I’m going to have to seriously examine where I do the transitions in the new version.
