Today I am officially done with summer school! YEAH! Now I have, like, two weeks to do whatever I want! Specifically that Betamax track I'm working on... I've hardly gotten anything done on it. It's definitely going to be top priority for a while.
The final in that class was so retarded. 100 multiple choice questions, and all of them had only A or B as choices. What's worse is that some of the A choices were "All of the above" or "None of the above". Does that make any sense at all? So, obviously I don't choose those, because that would be stupid answer, right? But when I get my test back, I find out that one of those "All of the above"s was the right answer! Despite the fact that the B choice made more sense, I lose much needed pointage to an idiotic answer. Not that I think that one extra point would have bumped me up from a C to a B, so either way I'm on probation, but the teacher wouldn't even explain why that was the correct answer to me! He wasn't even much of a teacher to begin with, really, but he should at least be able to explain the reasoning behind a single answer...whatever, I'll just retake the class again this fall with a decent teacher.

Part of the reason is probably because I actually used DVDs to make Kylie, but also, the video in general looks pretty good to me. There are still a few areas that don't look too hot, like the widescreen/fullscreen switch at the beginning, but I don't really know how to fix that, and this was just a quick little video anyway...

I tweaked and uploaded Emily just a little while ago. Personally, I'd probably rate her a 3, since there's a lot of ways she should be improved.

Okay, so I finished Emily this past weekend (around 7:00 Monday morning, but it still counts as the weekend). Really, though, I only finished enough of her to show in class and barely that much anyway. Seriously, it finished rendering only a few minutes before I had to leave for summer school. The teacher and the rest of the class liked it pretty well, so that was cool. However, I'm going to wait a while before uploading her, so that I can fix some of the lip sync with Photoshop once I get it. That's right, I had to use friggin' Paint to do any image editing for the video, which is why I ended up leaving some unnecessary lip flap in there. Way too complicated to fix with Paint.
That applies to pretty much all of the scenes where characters move and either speak when they aren't supposed to (in this case, a bit of Takamichi and Konoka toward the beginning) or don't speak where I want them to speak. This was mostly done by various student hanging around Ayaka's house and the scenes where Asuna and Ayaka sing at the same time - I had to split the scene to get them to move at the same time for one section, and copy and reverse Ayaka's mouth and drag it over Asuna's, since her mouth didn't move during the other scenes. Then, there are all the scenes with the student ensemble where I want to get them to actually sing their lines, instead of just being in the scene.
The other problem with the video is that I had to use downloaded fansubs to make it, so the picture quality dropped from both overcompression and stretching, since the only way I could get rid of most of the subtitles was through cropping and resizing almost every clip in the video. AnCo's random positioning of the subs didn't help much Most people seem not to care about using downloaded footage, especially with subtitles/logos, but I just can't stand errant subs (ooh, big word). I mean, Emily is at least viewable, IMO, but I definitely want to remaster her once I get the Negima DVDs. Still, if I don't get Premiere before next weekend is over, I'm just going to upload her and say that I will fix all the problems in the remake on the video info page.
Other than that, though, I'm told I did a pretty good job. I still wish my first full-length video had used DVD source, so that I don't look like one of these fansub-editing Naruto/Inuyasha/RandomPopularShow editors who just make videos to look cool. Ah, well. I'll try and get a video done for myself between MEP tracks. Maybe a Kare Kano, SaiKano, or Furuba vid to BNL's "Enid", or perhaps that Battle Athletes idea I had for Breaking Benjamin's "No Games". Who knows, I may even end up getting some more work done on Carmen!
Btw, has anyone else noticed that the 10-unrated video limit on Local downloads no longer applies? No joke; I have, like, 31 videos that I still have to rate/watch, and I can still download as many as I want.
Probably has something to do with the .org's database crash last week...
