My journal has just gotten a huge amount of hits in the last 30 minutes (300 or so).
It's cause everyones waiting for me to start flaming godix for bashing the shit out of me on the forums. But its not gonna happen.....because his right, and the stuff he said is the truth.
I've seen his videos, and there simply incredible. I cannot attack authors that makes videos better than me. So he wins this battle, and to flame him would be meaningless.
Here's an archive of all the stuff he has said.
Godix:
Yeah, oversyncing is quite possible. Take a look at JUMP! for example. The cuts are always synced therefore they're predicatable and boring. The guy went with straight lyric sync through most of it so there's no depth to the video other than 'oh look, he found some scenes where people jump around'. Also as a result of the lyric sync there's no point to most of the scenes. They don't flow together, they don't enhance each other, and in several cases they stop the videos flow dead as you sit there wondering 'what type of moron would use that scene?'. So yes it is possible to sync to much and the video I linked to is the posterchild for that. You might want to study it closely to figure out how not to make your AMV.

Thanks godix. I always thought there was something rotten about that video. I'm glad you took the time in this thread to point out its flaws.
Godix:
You're quite welcome but really we should be thanking you for all the fine negative examples you've produced over the years.
Sammy:
This is my latest AMV.

The music is Brendan Benson - Biggest Fan, set to Cowboy Bebop.
Godix:
I see you have mastered the white flash, lens flare, and tinting footage as you repeat the exact same scene over and over. Congrats but I gotta wonder, why no shatter effect? Was it too difficult to figure out?

[Alternate Eva Opening: Eva Bebop] is exceedingly overrated

Edited by Scintilla. This video is hugely popular, has a nearly flawless score and just look at all these awards its won:
Best of Show at AnimeCentral 2004 (w00t! my first best of show ever!)
Honorable Mention for Technical Achievement at AnimeCentral 2004
Best Comedy at AnimeNEXT 2004
Runner-up in Humorous/Satirical category at Otakon 2004
Runner-up for Best of Show at Anime Destiny 2004
AMVs.org Viewers Choice Awards 2005: Best Instrumental Video
AMVs.org Viewers Choice Awards 2005: Best Fun Video
AMVs.org Viewers Choice Awards 2005: Best Parody Video
Now with all this you would expect something to blow you away. Well dont, becuase this video is painfully average. Bad? No, but its so worthless, ordinary and just easily caters for fans.
It mixes 2 MEGA-Popular animes. Eva footage with the Cowboy Bebop opening intro, and thats pretty much it. No suprises, no fun, and I honestly cant think of much good things to say about it, but I guess its technically impressive. But then again. I really think I could put together something like this in less than 3 hours. Not to sound egotistical, but its the truth.
5/10
Note: I can already imagine how popular a naruto+dbz intro screen mix up would be.

[Consequences of War] is hugely under appreciated

Edited by Flint the Drwarf. This video is the most intelligent, and meaningful videos I have ever seen. It has a really strong message, and one of the few videos on this site that makes YOU THINK. Unlike Zarrax, who puts tits, arse and sex all over his videos in order to keep people instrested - I mean look at his 'cant touch this video' talk about brain dead.
The only bad thing about this video, is the beat match ups were the editor cuts up the screen in order to work with the drum beats. While this is on time and all, it feels out of place for this type of video.

[Dai-OH FiGhT!] Is tremendously underrated.

Edited by Mr.Panda, this video is alot of fun. The most fun parts are the chorus, and start scene. The muisc is so high in energy, and Mr.Panda matched it up with the footage very well. I like the 2 girls pulling on each others cheek scene. Very nice.
The bad things about this video is the long length, and the out of place lip syncing during some of the verse parts.
Overall, I highly recomend you check this video out.

[Naruto's Technique Beat] is staggeringly overrated
2005-07-17 18:44:29
It pains me to post this as obviously .:Decoy:. (Ryno Eksteen) is a good guy. But this video is hugely overrated. I dont hate it, I give it a 7/8, but I think people posting these perfect 10s and 9s for the video ignore its flaws.
I feel that the colorized clips in the video really hurt my eyes. They also blur the image somewhat, and that takes away all character from the anime. Leaving the video feeling empty most the time. The screen is bloated with too much useless information. It's like downloading a good program only to find out its bloated with spyware. I dont mind the character technique style and name, but theres little boxes on screen doing nothing - just there for show.
The vidoe is currently No.3 on the top 10%, but I dont think it deserves that sort of attention. It now encourages people to bloat there videos with special effects. What ever happend to good old fashion cut and pate? I really do wonder how these editors would survive in the AMV world without their copy of Adobe After Affects. I hate that program, most effects pulled off in that are automatic, and feel heartless.
I think this entry proves are point. That if you mix Rock music + Naruto your video is automatically labelled COOL. People wont care about your flaws. They just say "dam that song rocks, and your using my favorite anime - straight 10s, but I gave you a 9 for sound quality."
