JOURNAL: Sammy (Ousama (Sam) Farha)

  • Interview with Nightowl from AMV Weekly Magazine 2005-07-26 19:15:00 Note from Sammy: Think I'm beating a dead horse with these interviews? Well, yeah I am, cause I like seeing horses getting beaten to death.

Taken from Issue #24 (Page 62) Note: This is the issue with the 10 page exclusive review of Europha!!

AMV Weekly: Hello Nightowl. We at AMV Weekly are huge fans of your works. What is your opinion of digital effects in todays AMVS?

Nightowl:Okay, fine, maybe I'll say a little something, for no other reason than the fact that it offends me when this kind of comment rears its ugly head every other week. You say that AMVs are 'kind of like art.' Well, an artist, typically, likes to put himself or herself into the project he or she is creating. I, personally, use effects to get my own personal message across utilizing the show in question and my own thematic or stylistic contributions to said project. If everyone cut videos straight, there would be no originality in any of the projects. It would be fan pandering. I lean toward the narcisitic, I want to get MY message across. This is MY video. Therefore, I will create my own style within the video, thus making the project more mine than another rehash of the show.

Not all videos that utilize effects do so just to be flashy. It is possible to find videos that have effects (I hate the term 'effects video' because, at least for me, the effects are not the point, they are simply tools), you just have to look for them. There's a reason for the comparison to Hollywood. All the flashy movies get the attention, whereas the more subversive, artistically inclined do not. And these days, that could mean a rather large effects budget. It's tough to find a movie that does not use some form of digital process these days, that's the nature of the beast. When film came around, everybody thought it was bullshit because how could it ever be better than theatre. Well, now film is considered an artform in its own right.

Generalizing a stylistic decision is simply uninformed. People will say that the entire point of making videos is to make them for yourself, but then why pander to an audience? Why send them to cons? As creators, for the most part, we are entertainers. That is our point. That is why cons usually have a big AMV thing. We entertain. If making Sailor Moon fuck Knight Rider will get a laugh, it'll probably get done. If making Kanti fall in love with that dog from Excel Saga will draw a tear from a single member of that audience, it'll be done. Hence, effects.

This shit doesn't happen in the shows. You have to make it happen. If you're a depressed suicidal romantic ex-heroin addict who can't keep a relationship together, you make shit like Playground Love, a video that is apparently very boring and full of effects. And not one of those top ten-ers.

I'm fucking sick of this question/comment! I'm tired of it! Will everyone PLEASE:

    LEAVE IT THE FUCK ALONE!

Are you happy, Hsien? ARE YOU FUCKING HAPPY?! I'M DRINKING AGAIN!!!

AMV Weekly: Ummm yeah....whatever......... :leaves room:

Nightowl: No, Paizuri, he's right. I am retarTed. I am very much a 'tart. I have seen the error of my ways. I shall discontinue my creation of videos immediately. I find it most amazing that he somehow put me in my place without making a single comment as to what I said. Apparently I said only one thing, which he found to be TARTY.

And just for you. HSIEN. Get your fucking bitch ass back on the internet and respond to the fucking shit I say to you COCKMASTER. I can't fucking believe a little fucking shit like you would not respond to me. Who the fucking hell do you think you are?! YOU'RE MY BITCH. You make me breakfast and I FUCKING EAT IT. Now get your WHORE ASS BACK HERE AND RESPOND COCK SHIT FUCK CUNT TWAT TWATTY FUCKMASTER OF THE FUCKING COCKSUCKERS JOE CROASDAILE. Or however the fuck he spells his fucking name. WHERE THE FUCK IS EVERYONE?! ENTERTAIN ME FUCKERS!!!

  • Interview with Sam Farha from AMV Weekly Magazine 2005-07-26 04:41:18 Taken from AMV Weekly Magazine Issue #23

    AMV Weekly: Hello Sam Farha.

    Sam: Hey.

AMV Weekly: What inspired you to make AMVS?

Sam: Nothing really. I was just born to make them from the get-go. Unlike many other creators out there that started making AMVS using DBZ clips. Then when they made a good enough Non-DBZ video. They then started bashing DBZ noob videos.

AMV Weekly: What do you think of the AMV scene as of today?

Sam: I think it's a mess. A big mess in a huge pile, and soon that pile will crumble.

AMV Weekly: You have been known to brag about how brilliant your AMVS are, but where is the evidence to prove this? None of you videos are listed on any top 10% lists, and I do recall your 'ne plus ultra' video being listed as lowest star scale rank.

Sam: I feel that because I've been away from the AMV scene for 3 years now. It has affected my popularity I once had. For example Koops Europhia would never have been able to reach its current fame if I was still around at the time. That’s why I think it was unfair play, because all these other creators kinda had an easy 3 years with me not being around.

The fact is that most creators decided to start making AMVS when I left, cause they knew they wouldn’t' have to compete with my videos.

AMV Weekly: Since you got back you've been apart of the AMV scene for 3 months now. How come all you 2005 AMV releases aren't killing the charts?

Sam: My 2001/2002 videos were designed to be Chart toppers from the very start I created them, and they succeeded. My 2005 videos are designed for intelligent people. Most people on this site are dumb asses and they cannot understand my smart way of editing. That’s why there not as popular.

AMV Weekly: Why did you leave the AMV scene 3 years back?

Sam: I left for many reasons, but the main one was cause of my fans kept chivvying me to make this video with this song. So many annoying requests. When I released Wildmix all of them hated it, and I actually got hate mail for it......from FANS!

AMV Weekly: Why did you come back to the AMV scene?

    Sam: Free uploads.

AMV Weekly: Who’s your favourite AMV editor?

Sam: Well, when you make such good videos, it’s really hard to care about anyone else’s AMVS. So no, I don’t have any favourite creators. When someone starts making AMVS at my level then I'll start respecting other creators.

    AMV Weekly: ............

    Sam: What?

AMV Weekly: Nothing, so what do you consider your best video?

Sam: Wildmix. I just love it for the fact it completely, and utterly destroys jbone's Wildchild -Renegade Master AMV. If only I could see the look on his face while he watching it.

AMV Weekly: Do you plan on ever remaking any of your older videos?

Sam: No. I make AMVS for fun. If I remade Excalibur with HQ footage, would I get paid lots of money? No. So I say fuck remakes, fuck them up there ass holes.

AMV Weekly: What video are you Woking on now?

Sam: I've got many ideas in my head. I'm juggling them around. Maybe I'll come out with another demo collection.

AMV Weekly: Words out that you ripped off AMV Hell with Demo Collecton #2. What do you think of this?

Sam: Well I dont know about that, but at least I didn't throw SEX jokes all over my demo collection.

AMV Weekly: Who is your most hated creator at amv.org?

    Sam: godix...

AMV Weekly: Thanks for your time today. We here at AMV Weekly are huge fans of all your AMVS. This interview was such a pleasure.

Sam: How wonderful. See you around.
