"Yay - I always think instrumentals are hard to do. You made it look easy. Hopefully that will not tempt me to try."

Thank you both very much! Your comments certainly made my day. ^_^

  • Rock on! 2007-01-18 20:49:11 "very well executed: I've never seen Gawl and now I want to"

Thank you very much, Mystery QCer! You certainly made my day. Gawl is a great anime. You should see it. ^____^
  • In through the ear 2007-01-13 11:49:07 I've come to realize that what motivates me to do an amv does not come from watching anime but from listening to music.

For a while now I've not had much motiviation for working on any of the amv ideas that have been brewing in my head for (what seems like) ages. I don't have a radio in my bedroom, my brother "claimed" the cord for the radio in the livingroom, my mother listens to talk radio, so the only time now when I listen to music is when I'm alone in my car. I had that chance yesterday, and the whole time I was driving my mind was filling with ideas for videos. It made me want to squirrel myself away in my room until a vid project was finished. Unfortunately I didn't heed that call to creativity. >_< But now I know that if I want to rekindle my desire to edit, all I have to do is pop on the tunes.

I just wish I had more freedom to do that.
  • On second thought.... 2006-11-11 00:52:16 After another look, it seems she might not have used my video's clips after all. I noticed a few editing glitches on hers (where a tiny bit of a previous scene hadn't been cleanly cut from the clip used) which I haven't noticed before with the same clips used in my amv. So perhaps it's just a wild coincidence that we've both used the same scenes from saiyuki.

    It's still weird, though. lol.
  • Curious 2006-11-11 00:38:40 I've read about people using clips from amvs to make their own amvs, and that practice always bugged me to some extent. I don't recall seing anyone really complain about having clips from their videos re-used by someone else, so I'm not sure how people feel about that.

What am I getting at here? Well...I came across a "montage" type amv on YouTube--the kind of one where there's a theme song for different anime. I noticed the Saiyuki part of the amv had very familiar clips, very familiar because I'd seen them over and over again while editing my Saiyuki amv. So I paid close attention and noticed that every single one of the Saiyuki clips used were match-for-match the same ones I used in my amv, though not in the same order. Now I would've tossed the thought that came into my head right out if there had been at least one Saiyuki clip in there that wasn't also in my vid. But there wasn't. I know there are tons of Saiyuki amvs out there, but what are the chances that another one would use the exact same clips as mine? Saiyuki isn't a short-run series. There's plenty of scenes to take clips from. The odds of seeing the exact same clips and nothing new used in two different amvs is very small.

So, Yeah, I'm wondering if this person used the clips from my Saiyuki amv to make her amv. I'm also wondering if I should ask the person if she got her footage from another amv ('cause I've noticed people who "borrow" amv clips freely admit to doing so). Should I be irked if it turns out my video's clips were used? Honestly, I really don't know what to think. It's just kind of...weird.
