More....STUFF!
2006-12-05 10:03:05
So, random thoughts of the month coming your way, reader! (This is me assuming that out of the 18 journal hits I got last month, one wasn't mine!)
Let's start with the ugly. It always kinda hurts to be browsing the org, only to find that a member you really appreciated gave an all 1 op to a vid because it was Naruto. Just goes to show how hard it really is to get read people on the net.
I'm also starting to get the hierarchy of this place a little better now :
You've got the old dudes who were here from the beginning, and who by now have become very good, whether they were talented or not. They are usually friends with each other, but their group isn't that big.
Youve got the pros, who may become old dudes if they don't get a girlfriend, but usually otherwise have a lifespan on the org of three or so years. They're the best. The pros automatically post in each other's thread, and from time to time, will honor a newbie, or *gasp*, a noob with their presence in one of theirs. These are truly moments to cherish.
You've got the meanies, people who seem to be involved in everything and always bring their dark sarcasm to the mix. Their lack of smilies makes them less approachable, and they sorta form the wall that makes the fortress of the pro's stand tall.
You've got the suck-ups, who out of nowhere, arrive and start posting in every single pro thread, doing their best to become friends with every one of them.
You've got the mascots, people who aren't particularly good, but have a big presence on the boards and in the community, which makes them well-loved figures. They have pro friends and newbie friends, and are kinda the glue that keeps this place together.
You've got the critics, who don't make many AMV's, but love watching them, and writing opinions. Their journals are frequently updated with long entries, and their say is very respected.
You've got the hard-working newbies, who will become the pros of the future. They aren't particularly acknowledged by the current pros, but they form their own group, and support each other, without necessarily posting in the pro's announcement threads, because they get enough praise as it is.
Finally, you've got the noobs, who just don't have a clue.
Many people have jumped from one camp to an other. Others mix and match.
All these people have one thing in common : they're awesome.
And I was complaining about the lack of recognition the newbies get from the pros, but then I realized, that when we newbies become the new pros, most of us'll have been with each other too long to care about anyone else, right?
*hugs*
I decided to keep on making AMV's as much for the scene as the vids, as you can see :)
This month, new vid. I might talk about it here, where I can post some less politically correct stuff than in the description.

I lied!

Well, I guess three minutes later isn't really a month. But I have to say, not having an edit button on journals is a joke.

Ha! You've fallen into my trap! You innocently clicked on this when you spotted it on the front page, thinking it was refreshing to see a new face on there, and who knows, he might have something interesting to say. Well your intuition failed you, my friend. And now, you find yourself unable to move the mouse to the back button, or the close window button, for that matter.
What's that? You have a back button on your mouse? Ah, technology these days... Complete waste of time...
Anyway, you are unable to move anything but your eyes, as you helplessly follow my life on paper. Ok?
So I find myself in an original dilemma. I said that my first video would be my last. And I believed it when I said it, stupid me. But I've found many more characters to honor. And I don't really feel the need to make an AMV for them. I mean, I just do it in my mind. But it makes me really sad to be unable to find a very good Hughes vid on the org, and so I wonder : How much was my first AMV for me, and how much was it for others? How much was it honest tribute, and how much honestly insane reach for power. When you're a filmmaker who's used to his audience being 20 family members and friends, this opportunity to reach such a huge fanbase with a pretty similar artform can get you excited. I mean, I'm like dancing in my room right now cuz my AMV hit the 80 star rating mark. What a lame milestone. But it's been like a week since it hit 70, and I missed the (somewhat) round number.
Anyway, it gets to the point where I don't care what scores I get. i would easily choose 500 all 0 op's over 50 all 10 op's. Just knowing you have that reach, you know?
I wonder how many star ratings Euphoria has?
Anyway, if I do find 6 months to spend on a new project, I hope all the people that encouraged me to make more won't be disappointed. That can happen, sometimes. They'll be like ; " That's all you'll make? What a shame!", and then when you make another : "sellout".
...
More power to them. I do feel like a sellout.
I will now make this journal hot stuff by giving a controversial opinion. Isn't the community tired of pimping each other? Pardon me for not having time to post all day in the Inuyasha ending thread, but would it hurt for you guys to post in an equal amount of threads from people you know and newcomers on the announcement forum. I can understand elitism in Hollywood, but believe me guys, we aren't there yet. You don't even have to be positive. For these guys, any press is good press.
Anyway. Didn't get much of a response on the boards for this. You hear the new Chili Peppers album? Which song would make the best AMV?
You better not say "Dani California".
I think I'll make this a monthly thing. I hate writing.
And now that all the traitors have left before the end of my post, I'll let the trustworthy in on a window to my world :
