Everyone else seems to have caught on to this wacky journal thing so I'll have to give it a try. Unfortunately I bust my ass trying to do new things with AMVs so it'll be a while before my next lil' pride and joy, so in the meantime I suggest you download Odorikuruu and play it in loop to pass the time. Hell, that's what I'd do!
I can say very little on the AMV front. When Worlds Collide is doing miserably, contrary to my predictions. It seems that too many people have been around 8 hour botch-jobs and have grown so used to them they're afriad of, what I'd like to think of, as the next generation of AMVs. There are many talented artists out there but they always seem to try and play it safe. This is not editing for film. One cut every 20 seconds doesn't cut it as an AMV. You have an entire song, learn to work WITH the song and use the whole song. See "Blue Mercury" for a video that doesn't miss anything and truely does use the whle song.
In other news I got around to downloading Lostboy's "Rythm Animation" and was thoroughly impressed by what he accomplished. For those unfamiliar with the video, "Rythm Animation" is a big test video trying to match not just beats, but motions to what sounds the artist thought they conveyed. Done with extremely excellent skill and judgement this video does a great job at creating an animated spectrum analyzer. It's something I try in a lot of my videos and I hope that every creator sees this one and uses it as an example of what I'd call "next gen. action sync."
Technology is improving, evolve with it. Most people are using Adobe Premiere yet only using it for infrequent, and often times poorly executed hard cuts. This leads me to believe that these people have either A) bootlegged the program, or B) Have a lot of money to kill. Yes hard cuts work, but when given the power to make EVERYTHING work together in an orgy of audio and video goodness, why turn down the opportunity to make a video in one sitting? I can easily accomplish the same thing, and perhaps even a bit more, with the freely available Virtuadub. Bottom line, spend some time on your videos. I know I'll be criticized for saying that, as like I said at the top, most people are too hell bent on "quick-n-dirty" videos to put them aside now, But do try.
No I am not giving out previews of my next work. I need to preserve every bit of shock and surprise for it to be effective. If you've seen or heard anything about my next video, please refrain from sharing it. :-)
