I got a really nice opinion on one of my AMVs. Not because she said she liked my vid, but because she understood CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM!! Wow!! I could actually take her seriously, and really think about the things that she said I could work on. Good criticism leaves a person feeling like they can do better, not like they can't do anything at all.
But it was nice that she liked my vid. She seemed to know a lot about editing, so I checked out some of hers. All three that I downloaded were really good; some of the better ones I've seen out there. I tried to send one of her vids an opinion, but for some reason AMV didn't let it take. Really annoying; I spent over half an hour typing up my responses too. -_-
Anyways, now that my faith in the system has been restored, I would just like to thank everyone out there for all their hard work in making AMVs. Even real sloppy ones still take time to do, and if it wasn't for people experimenting or coming out of the closet, we wouldn't have anyting. One thing I've promised myself is that I would NEVER rate anyone with a 1, because even the worst vid deserves at least a 2 for effort. So go make those vids people!

I've taken to sending opinions myself, now that I've finally figured out how to do it. I've only done three, but eventually I hope to be able to comment on every vid I've seen. I'll try to point out as much good if not more than bad, because I don't want to be a complainer, and I don't want to discourage anyone. Other people have fun with this too, and completely negative reviews can destroy one's love for the hobby.
On an unrelated note, I'm getting a kick out of how interest in my videos seem to come in waves. I check it one moment and they've all been rated high...next moment, and they seem to be inching a little low. I wonder if the interest demographic is time-related. Interesting.

Misunderstanding

Wow, I had one guy totally flame my AMV. I'm still not sure why. He accused me of making fun of one of his favorite animes, and that he couldn't tell if I was making a love amv or not. Funny...since the song I was using was about death, I kinda thought the tragedy aspect would have been obvious. But then again, often people don't really understand the lyrics to a song. I wouldn't have either with this, but I happened to know that the band themselves said the song was about death, not about love. Oh well.
Wierdly enough, despite the flame, I'm not really mad. I'm just sad that people out there can be so misunderstanding, and try to completely flame you over it. But I still do appreciate his critisism. He did have some points, like the fact that the footage I was using was horrible, and the subtitles were lousy . I agree 100 percent on that. But once more, I use what I have available; I can't do much more than that. I'm a starving student at school, so I can't afford DVDs right now. But I do plan on eventually replacing all my subtitled anime for DVDs in the future.
I really urge everyone out there to learn the difference between constructive critisism and flame. One is done in a polite manner, and the other can spark a war. It's a good thing I'm in a good mood today, despite feeling totally ill, because I was able to respond to that opinion in a mature manner. I only hope he can learn from it.
All the same, I'm considering making his opinion and my response public. It's not a good review from someone else, but I feel I made a good and calm rebuttal.

I've been finally able to really search around the site. I still can't get my IE to dowload anything, but I've been using Mozilla as a browser instead, and that actually gets things done.
There's a lot of good ideas out there for AMVs. Some of them are done wonderfully. Others have potential, at least. It's really interesting to see what kind of vids other people can come up with. I specialize in character profile vids my self, so it's interesting seeing what else is available.
I'm still trying to get my last five vids fixed up for upload. One of my roomies insists on putting on my screenname logo herself, so she can color-code it for the scenes. I really don't care that much; plain half-transparent grey works for me. But her additions really do match better. I just wanna get them up; I love sharing things with people.
Thankfully, I'm over my ego streak now. I had to smack myself a few times. I don't really have an ego usually. In fact, I belittle myself. But I guess I finally found something that I really feel I have a talent in, and having complete strangers rate my stuff low kinda killed that. But I fixed it and my own opinion. No matter what anyone says about my vids, I like them and that's what's important. Well, ok, some vids I like more than others, but you get the idea. ^_^

Ok...now, several hours later, I look back on my last entry and think "Man, what the heck brought all THAT on?!?" Geez, I sound like a total snob.
Nah, the only thing that I really wanted to get across was that I wish I could get people to comment in words on my vids, because I would like to know what others look for in an amv. Apparantly, my idea of a good vid isn't quite the same as everyone elses.
I have seen some vids that I really like though. I found a Fruits Basket one to "The Creation of Man" from the Scarlet Pimpernel. This had me and my roommates rolling on the floor, it was so funny. Half the humor was in the lip syncing that was done. Kudos to that guy (dragonsong12 I belive is his name) for that vid; it was well timed and edited.
I also found a Fruits Basket one that was pretty...Tohru and the Beast, to "Beauty and the Beast" from (repeat title again), the animated movie by, well, Disney, who else. So there are some good vids out there, to contrast some of my earlier egotistical complaining. Gimme a break on that post; I had just gotten out of bed, and I'm no morning person. ^_^
