Someone left an opinion on one of my vids! Over all, it was good. But he did point out one thing that I've been thinking about. And that is that I have a tencancy to stick my codename "Shada" in the lower corner of all my vids. I started doing this, because I had heard horror stories about people ripping vids and claiming them as their own. But soon I realized that as long as my vids are on this site, I really don't need to worry about that. Mainly because it will be flaming obvious if someone copies my vids from now on, and also because...who the heck is gonna copy a fansubbed vid?
Maybe I'll stop putting my tag on my vids from now on, since plagery isn't really much of a concern anymore, and they just add one more distraction that's already bad enough from subtitles.

Sister and stuff

My twin sister's finally on the site! She's put up info for one of her AMVs...hasen't uploaded it yet though. Anyways, she's Jedi Master Zelda, or JMZ for short, if anyone gives a hoot (JMZ's what her name is on the site).
Just finished watching a new episode of Teen Titans that a friend of mine brought over. I now have the entire series in Divx format, but I'm not sure if I should do an AMV to it...I mean, does TT count as an anime on this site? Maybe I should ask the forum. In any case, I really want to do a Raven vid. She rocks. Also, I won't have to worry about subtitles! It will be nice to have a good, clean vid for once.
Speaking of which, I reeeeally need to get the last two DVDs of Final Fantasy Unlimited. I'd love to use real DVD footage for an AMV.

The trouble with special effects

Someone once told me that in order to get people to really rate your vid high on this site, you need to have good special effects. It's sad that they look for that over editing or story or art, but there you go.
I'm here to say...please...for the love of humanity...lay OFF the special effects...
I just downloaded a vid that was so full of fancy things it came off as just...well, I don't want to say anything bad about someone's work, and it looked like it took ages to do...but, there is such a thing as overdoing it, and that vid crossed the line in the first two seconds. It was so bad, one of my roomies watching over my shoulder said she felt like she was going to have a seizure.
My point being: GOOD SPECIAL EFFECTS DOES NOT MAKE A GOOD VID!!!

I believe there is a time and place for those fancy digital effects. I've seen some people pull off some really spectacular vids with them. Me myself, I go more for editing, storyline, and feel rather than effects, because to me, effects interrupt a story. I can either watch a vid with a lot of effects and say "wow, that was really fancy" or I can watch a vid with a good storyline and totally get lost in the world of the vid. I can't do that when things get fancy, because pretty as it may look, it's also distracting. And too much of it is like too much makeup...it looks painted and fake.
So keep up the digital effects if you like. Just please...don't over do it. Too much of a good thing almost always equals a bad thing.

Ok, usually I'd have posted a journal entry now, but today's been rather...non-descriptive. Oh well, everyone gets those days now and then.
I did download a few really good Slayers vids. Man, I wish I had versions that good. They were probably DVD done. What I wouldn't give for DVDs. But...I don't really know how to turn something in DVD format into a vid anyways...don't I need some funky ripping program for that? I know nothing about those kinds of things.
Ok, somethings did happen. My sister just got her webcomic up, although it's anyone's guess how long it will take her to really get going. It's at http://theheroshandbook.keenspace.com/.
Also, she just told me a volcano in my homestate's getting ready to explode. Again. Geez, Mt. St. Helens already blew almost a third of itself sky-high in 1980...what more has it got left? Anyways, they don't think it'll be too dangerous of an eruption, but all the same, I hope people aren't getting too close to it.
Man, new webcomic and a volcanoe erupting. Why in the world is this day so blaise still?

I got another message from the earlier flamer, and he was a lot nicer. Apparantly, he was in a bad mood. I hope he's doing better, and whatever was bothering him is over. He seems to be a pretty good guy. I had thought that there was something up, which is why I didn't get mad at him earlier. Sometimes people have a reason for what they do, and I like to think good about other people. After all, I'd hate it for someone to, for example, read some of my lfirst journals and thing I'm an egotistical maniac. I was having it rough when I wrote that stuff myself.
Ever have one of those days when it feels like fate itself is really out to get you? That's kinda how my whole month has been. From things like money problems to deaths in the family, to being turned down by Tokyopop's Rising Stars of Magna competition for the third time, this has probably been the worst month of my life. But I belive that with every trial comes blessings and lessons to be learned. It's hard, but I'm gradually improving as a person from all of this.
So if anyone's having a hard day, just keep in mind that God doesn't give us trials that we cannot overcome and learn from. Hey, at least you don't have it as bad as Job.
